Abstract

This article discusses the strategy of Burhanuddin Mohamad Diah's family as an ambassador's family in strengthening family solidarity when assigned to two socialist countries, namely Czechoslovakia and Hungary from 1959 to 1962. This article analyzes why family solidarity became so important for their lives in diplomatic posts, the channels and media used to strengthen this solidarity, and the role of women in it. This article was carried out using historical research methods which utilize various primary sources, ranging from ego documents, contemporary publications, oral history, to a number of official archives.  This article reveals that family solidarity at diplomatic posts was part of the comfort conditions for the B. M. Diah family. This is due to two factors, namely historical factors and family psychological factors. To build and strengthen family solidarity, the B. M. Diah’s family used a number of channels, spaces, and media, including the family's domestic space, arts, sports, and tourism. This article also reveals that the presence of family solidarity issues has encouraged the emergence of women's agency and activism in the B. M. Diah family. To be precise, B. M. Diah’s wife, Herawati Diah, was present as a driving force, leader, and decision maker in the family in order to strengthen their internal solidarity.

Third, efforts to utilize the Kejei dance to introduce the Kejei dance to the broader community that the Kejei dance must be maintained. (2) factors supporting community participation in preserving the existence of the Kejei dance through the sanggar Tiang Bumei Selupu, namely social media that functions as a means of promotion, support from the government of Suban Ayam village and the government of Selupu Rejang district, a well-run studio management system, a strategic studio location, the enthusiasm of members of the sanggar Tiang Bumei Selupu and the support of all levels of society in Selupu Rejang district. The inhibiting factors for community participation in preserving the existence of the Kejei dance through the sanggar Tiang Bumei Selupu are limited infrastructure, funding problems, and the busyness of each member of the sanggar Tiang Bumei Selupu.

Abstract

The transformation of information technology has created a new public space in digital media, which also serves as a political discourse arena. The "Lapor Mas Wapres" program, launched by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is an interesting phenomenon that has received diverse responses from the public. This study aims to analyze the public's perspective on the program as presented through the Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) YouTube channel, specifically regarding the issue of political imagery. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this research explores the perceptions and interpretations of active ILC viewers who commented on the show "Lapor Mas Wapres // Between Appreciation and Imaging" in April-May 2025. Data was collected through observation of audience engagement on the platform and in-depth online interviews with purposefully selected active users. The analysis utilizes Stuart Hall's reception theory to identify dominant, negotiated, and oppositional readings. The results reveal a complex spectrum of public reactions, with the majority of informants in a negotiated position. They acknowledge the program's positive aspects but are skeptical about its consistency and real-world follow-up, often viewing it as a political gimmick rather than substantive public service.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Multicultural Education textbook based on the Case Study Project (CSP) approach to improve the critical thinking skills of History Education students. The research employed a Research and Development method using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. The study involved 68 students from the History Education Program at a university in Indonesia. The research instruments consisted of validation sheets, response questionnaires, and critical thinking skill tests. Data were analyzed through validity tests, practicality tests, and effectiveness tests using a paired sample t-test. The results indicate that the developed textbook demonstrates high validity (average score 89.5%), excellent practicality (average score 87.3%), and effectively improves students’ critical thinking skills with a significance value of p < 0.05. The improvement was evident in analytical, evaluative, and synthetic skills across diverse cultural perspectives. Therefore, the textbook is feasible for use as an alternative learning resource in Multicultural Education and represents an instructional innovation relevant to fostering 21st-century competencies in higher education.

Abstract

This paper analyzes cosmopolitanism in the relations between Aceh and Turkey. Aceh has a rich and complex history of cosmopolitanism, one of which is its relationship with Turkey. This research aims to analyze the dynamics of cosmopolitanism in the context of the relationship between Turkey and Aceh, focusing on the Kenegerian Sungai Iyu and the significant role of the Attahashi family in the cosmopolitan relations in Sungai Iyu. This study employs a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through literature review, analysis of historical documents, and interviews with informants. The findings indicate that the relationship between Aceh and Turkey has had a significant influence on cosmopolitanism in Aceh. In the Kenegerian Sungai Iyu, the Attahashi family serves as a cultural bridge between Turkey and Aceh. Cosmopolitanism plays a crucial role in facilitating cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and cooperation between the people of Aceh and Turkey. Additionally, this relationship contributes to historical awareness in Aceh, enabling the local community to understand cosmopolitanism in the historical relations between Aceh and Turkey. Cosmopolitanism in the Aceh-Turkey relations in Sungai Iyu has produced collective memory through shared experiences in the past, shaping a narrative in the present that is passed down from generation to generation. This collective memory strengthens Aceh's cultural and historical identity and enriches the collective awareness of the Acehnese people about cosmopolitanism through the significant role of the Attahashi family. This paper contributes to the understanding of the importance of strengthening historical awareness through the historical narrative of the Attahashi family in Sungai Iyu.

Abstract

The massive flow of socio-cultural globalization today poses a challenge of cultural homogenization, which has the potential to cause deculturalization and an identity crisis in society. However, socio-cultural globalization also presents benefits that can support the preservation and optimization of local wisdom. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe socio-cultural globalization and its relevance to the Labuhan Merapi tradition as a multicultural educational space for society. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research method to identify and analyze various relevant literature on globalization, Labuhan Merapi, and multicultural education. Next, data analysis is carried out using the Klaus Krippendorff analysis model, and its credibility is strengthened through source triangulation. The results of the research indicate that socio-cultural globalization has encouraged the "kraton" to collaborate with local society in making the Labuhan Merapi tradition a multicultural educational space characterized by two key aspects. First, the Labuhan Merapi procession is reinterpreted as a space for the actualization of tolerance and "cooperation" that symbolizes vertical-horizontal harmony. Second, the Labuhan Merapi procession emphasizes functionality as a tourism commodity that introduces local cultural identity and its role in multicultural education for the wider society. From here, socio-cultural globalization can provide advantages in helping to overcome the challenges of cultural homogenization as long as its potential is utilized appropriately.

Abstract

Unlicensed mining activities (PETI) in Huamual District, Western Seram Regency, Maluku Province, have become one of the primary sources of livelihood for local communities. Mining exploration, despite being a traditional community activity and being government-recognized, enables mining locations to create jobs, thereby increasing income and strengthening socioeconomic welfare. The research method employs a qualitative, phenomenological approach to explore the community's direct experience of the existence of unpermitted mines. The results of the study show that mining without PETI has a positive impact on the community, including reducing the unemployment rate, improving the community's economy, and developing small businesses and empowering local communities. On the other hand, unlicensed mining activities also harm the community and cause environmental damage, including landslides, deforestation, and floods. The community will accept its own risks due to unlicensed mining activities. The community still maintains customary land if there are companies that want to enter. The community lacks the capital of knowledge and does not want any requirements. These findings indicate that people prefer to work in mining areas without permission, aiming to improve community welfare, but are not permitted to manage mining products at the mine site.
