Abstract

International community service can connect academic knowledge with the immediate needs of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in multicultural urban settings. This article reports a Corporate Social Innovation (CSI) activity conducted by a team from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta in collaboration with Universiti Kuala Lumpur at a coffee and snack shop in the lobby of Regalia Residence, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The activity aimed to identify the partner’s operational and marketing challenges, interpret customer-behavior patterns, and formulate feasible customer-oriented recommendations. A participatory business-diagnostic approach was applied through pre-visit desk research, a one-day field visit, direct observation, semi-structured conversations with the owner and staff, informal customer interactions, photographic documentation, and thematic analysis. The diagnostic process identified four interrelated issues: dependence on fluctuating lobby traffic, the need to serve both residents and short-stay visitors, limited differentiation in a competitive food-and-beverage environment, and underutilized customer-retention and digital-promotion opportunities. The service team translated these findings into a practical strategy package comprising time-based menu planning, a simple loyalty mechanism, low-cost digital content, distinctive menu development, and collaboration with residence management. The principal output was a context-specific set of recommendations and a shared understanding of the shop’s market position; however, the short engagement did not permit measurement of post-implementation business outcomes. The activity demonstrates that international community service can create reciprocal learning and actionable value when recommendations are grounded in partner dialogue, local observation, and realistic resource constraints

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to implement a web-based payroll information system to improve payroll management efficiency at Restoran Panjang in Tanjungpinang. Prior to the implementation, payroll administration was conducted manually, resulting in time-consuming processes, calculation errors, and difficulties in preparing and storing payroll reports. The implementation methods included partner needs assessment, system preparation, installation and configuration, user training, implementation assistance, and evaluation of the adopted system. The results showed that the payroll information system was successfully implemented and enabled the management of employee data, automated payroll calculation, payroll slip generation, and faster, more organized payroll reporting. In addition, the managers' ability to operate the system improved, leading to more effective, efficient, and well-documented payroll administration. It is recommended that the partner continue system maintenance, periodically update features according to operational needs, and receive continuous technical assistance to ensure the sustainability and optimal utilization of the implemented system.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health nutrition problem that requires an integrated approach involving multisectoral collaboration. Nguter Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency, is one of the areas that continues to face child growth problems, requiring stunting prevention and intervention efforts based on the conditions and potential of each village. This community service activity aimed to optimize stunting response efforts through strengthening knowledge, mapping nutritional conditions, and developing village-based intervention plans. The activity was conducted in five villages in Nguter Subdistrict, namely Baran, Nguter, Jangglengan, Tanjungrejo, and Juron, involving the subdistrict government, village governments, health workers, and lecturers from the Nutrition Study Program of Universitas Sugeng Hartono. The activity employed a participatory and collaborative approach through several stages, including preparation, educational sessions and interactive discussions, nutritional condition mapping, demonstrations of complementary feeding (MPASI) preparation using local food resources, and the development of stunting response plans for each village. The results indicated that Nguter Subdistrict continues to face child growth problems that require sustained attention and intervention. The activity resulted in stunting response plans for the five target villages, developed according to the conditions and potential of each area, while strengthening collaboration among government institutions, health workers, higher education institutions, and the community. These planning outcomes will subsequently serve as a basis for integration and follow-up through the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) conducted by students of Universitas Sugeng Hartono. This activity demonstrates that a participatory and collaborative approach can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening village-based stunting prevention planning according to local needs and potential.

Abstract

Most Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Batubantar Village, Cimanuk District, still rely on conventional marketing and have yet to make full use of digital platforms. In response, students from Student Work Program (KKM) Group 74 of Universitas Bina Bangsa carried out a digital marketing outreach activity as part of a broader technopreneurship-based MSME development program. A qualified external resource person was invited to lead the session, which unfolded through five connected stages—preparation, material delivery, open discussion, evaluation, and finally documentation with follow-up—all designed around a participatory format so that attendees engaged directly rather than passively listening. Following the session, participants showed a clearer grasp of core digital marketing ideas, social-media promotion techniques, and the value of building a business brand, evident in how actively they took part in the discussion and in several participants' willingness to start applying what they learned to their own businesses. Going forward, this initiative is intended to serve as a starting point for MSME actors in Batubantar Village to gradually build sustainable digital marketing practices of their own.

Abstract

Empowering housewives through the development of home-based businesses is one of the efforts to improve family economic independence and welfare. This community empowerment activity was conducted in Kendayakan Village, Kragilan District, Serang Regency, with the aim of improving the knowledge and skills of housewives in developing a productive and sustainable cookie business. The problems identified indicated a gap between production skills and business management capabilities, particularly in product packaging, branding, digital marketing, pricing, and financial record-keeping. The method used was the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach combined with practical training and continuous mentoring. The activities consisted of preparation, delivery of educational materials, production and product development practices, packaging and branding, digital marketing, basic financial management training, mentoring, and evaluation. The activity focused not only on improving participants' ability to produce cookies but also on developing their capacity to transform production skills into economically valuable business activities. The results showed improvements in participants' knowledge and skills in production, product development, packaging, branding, marketing, and basic financial management. The products produced included several cookie variants with improved marketable packaging, brand identities, product price lists, digital promotional materials, and simple financial record-keeping formats. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step toward strengthening the economic independence of housewives and encouraging the development of micro-enterprises based on the potential of the Kendayakan Village community.
