Abstract

Commuting is a daily reality for many workers in the Jakarta area and its surroundings. Previous studies have established that commuting exerts a significant influence on individual subjective well-being (SWB). This research aims to investigate the various factors that shape the relationship between commuting experiences and the subjective well-being of workers in Jakarta and neighboring regions.  Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the study utilizes thematic analysis to uncover pivotal themes affecting the SWB of commuter workers. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews with six participants, aged 23 to 51, residing in the Jakarta vicinity. The findings indicate that commuting experiences have a notable impact on the SWB of these workers, with negative emotions often predominating, despite some positive sentiments reported. Job satisfaction emerges as a crucial factor in understanding commuting dynamics; however, this satisfaction can sometimes come at the expense of well-being in other aspects of life. Workers with families encounter heightened challenges in achieving a balance between subjective well-being and the competing demands of work and family responsibilities. Coping strategies adopted by individuals are vital for enhancing subjective well-being, particularly in light of technological advancements. Furthermore, finding ways to engage in meaningful leisure activities plays an essential role in boosting SWB. External factors, including transportation policies and work arrangements, are also recognized as influential in improving individual subjective well-being

Abstract

Mental health is a condition in which individuals can realize their potential, cope with life's pressures, work productively, and make contributions. Therefore, mental health is very important for humans, especially for students. A mental health profile is one of the efforts in identifying factors that affect students' mental health. This study is a quantitative descriptive, inferential study. In the inferential, 3-way MANOVA analysis is used, and the description is equipped with correspondence visualization. The population in this study was high school students in urban and rural areas in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, totalling 1240 students. The sampling used was cluster random, totaling 134 students. 2 suburban and 2 sub-rural areas were taken to compare their mental health. In addition to demographics, other research variables were also selected in the form of gender, student guardians, number of social media applications, age, distance, and student weight. From the discussion, the results indicate that there is a joint influence between gender, number of social media applications, and demographics on students' mental health. The existence of interaction of influence indicates that synergy between schools and related governments is needed to make the best policies to anticipate the high level of mental health problems of students in urban and rural areas. In contrast, students with low health problems were identified as students whose homes were close to school, users of 1 social media application, and students with ideal body weight.

Abstract

During adolescence, seeking their identity is considered one of the crucial tasks in the developmental stage. It allows adolescents to experience an identity crisis if they lack positive self-esteem. Factors contributing to the formation of self-esteem, a characteristic synonymous with adolescence include social support from their parents and social comparison within their environment. However, not all adolescents can receive social support from their parents or families. This led to the present study aiming to investigate the influence of social support and social comparison on the self-esteem of orphaned adolescents residing in orphanages. Participants in this study were orphaned adolescents aged 13 to 17 years residing in orphanages. Purposive sampling was employed as the sampling technique, and multiple linear regression analysis using JASP software was utilized for data analysis. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated that social support and social comparison significantly influence the self-esteem of orphaned adolescents, accounting for 57% of the variance. Additionally, the study examined the extent to which the social support variable influences self-esteem.

Abstract

Thesis completion is a crucial final stage in undergraduate students' academic journey. During this process, students often face psychological pressure that affects their mental health. This study aims to determine the relationship between spiritual intelligence and adversity quotient with the mental health of final-year students. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational design, and the sampling technique applied was random sampling. The data were analyzed using product moment correlation and multiple linear regression to test both minor and major hypotheses. The results show a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.864. The significance value of F. Change is 0.000, which indicates 0.000 0.05, meaning that spiritual intelligence and adversity quotient are significantly related to mental health. The significance test also shows that the values of F. Change and F. count are greater than F. table, namely 255.581 3.040. These results confirm that the major hypothesis is accepted, and there is a positive relationship between spiritual intelligence and adversity quotient with students' mental health. This finding highlights the importance of strengthening both resilience and spiritual intelligence as part of student support strategies during thesis completion.

Abstract

Learning motivation in regional students often decreases along with academic pressure and the demands of adapting to a new environment. In this context, academic self-efficacy is considered as an important psychological factor that has the potential to influence the level of learning motivation in students. This study aims to determine the relationship between academic self-efficacy and learning motivation in regional students of X University. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational non-experimental design. This study involved 107 overseas students who were actively enrolled in X University, who came from the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024, obtained through purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were The Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (TASES) and the Learning Motivation Scale which were validated and reliable. Data analysis performed using Pearson correlation. Based on the results of the study, a significant correlation was found between academic self-efficacy and learning motivation. These findings emphasize that strengthening academic self-efficacy and learning motivation simultaneously is very important to help overseas students cope with academic pressure. Based on the findings, it is recommended for regional students to increase academic self-efficacy and learning motivation. The implications of this study recommend the development of student's academic self-efficacy and learning motivation through the application of active learning strategies and the creation of an academic environment that optimally supports the learning process.

Abstract

Academic stress and social anxiety can lead to social media addiction as a form of escape, especially if emotional regulation is unable to manage negative emotions. This study aims to examine the mediating role of emotional regulation in the influence of academic stress and social anxiety on social media addiction in adolescents. This study used a quantitative method, involving 264 students of SMPN X in Semarang City. The sample was determined using a non-probability sampling approach, namely quota sampling. Data analysis used the path analysis method with the help of JASP (Jeffrey's Amazing Statistics Program) version 19.3. The results of the analysis showed that emotional regulation partially mediates the effect of academic stress and social anxiety on social media addiction. This suggests that academic stress and social anxiety can increase the risk of social media addiction, especially if accompanied by low emotional regulation abilities. Thus, schools have a strategic role in improving students' emotional regulation, especially in managing academic stress and social anxiety through psychoeducational programs and counseling as a preventive measure to prevent or reduce the level of social media addiction among students.

Abstract

This study evaluates the psychometric properties of the Indonesian Student Well-Being Scale (Aprilianto, 2023), grounded in Fraillon (2004) theory, using a quantitative validation design with data from 510 university students aged 19-25  collected through accidental sampling. The scale, initially comprising 53 items, was refined to 41 items after removing non-fitting items based on Rasch and Mixture Rasch Model (MRM) analyses. Results demonstrated the scale's unidimensionality, high reliability (Cronbach's alpha 0.9), and valid measurement properties, with MRM identifying two latent classes reflecting demographic differences. The scale effectively measures intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions using a 4-point Likert scale. However, it underrepresents extremely high well-being levels, highlighting the need for additional item development. Despite its strengths, future studies should explore broader demographic variables, including cultural and socioeconomic factors, to enhance the scale's applicability and depth.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the extent of the influence of self-control on juvenile delinquent behavior in junior high school students in the suburban school area of Samarinda. The method used is quantitative research with a research population of junior high school students in three suburban schools in Samarinda which include SMPN 26 Samarinda, SMPN 28 Samarinda and SMPN 29 Samarinda, while the sample of this study amounted to 313 students selected through simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out offline and online using two instruments that had been modified by the author, namely the self-control scale adapted from Shofiatun's research (2021) and the juvenile delinquency scale adapted from Anggraini's research (2019). Data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression to test the hypothesis that had been formulated. The results of the research analysis found that self-control has a negative and significant effect on juvenile delinquent behavior by 30.3% while the remaining 69.7% is influenced by other factors. That means, the higher the student's self-control, the lower the juvenile delinquent behavior and vice versa, the low self-control of students can be related to the increase in juvenile delinquent behavior. As for the findings of the identification that has been carried out related to various types of juvenile delinquent behavior, it is found that the juvenile delinquent behavior that has the greatest frequency is speaking harshly with a total of 216 students or 8.97%.

Abstract

The pandemic imposed significant economic and psychological stress, particularly on informal workers such as online drivers. This study aims to explore the role of sense of community and membership tenure with resilience on online ride-hailing (ojek) drivers in Jakarta during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected from 100 participants meeting inclusion criteria through a survey using two primary instruments: the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to measure resilience and the Psychological Sense of community Scale (PSCS) to assess sense of community. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that sense of community significantly contributed to resilience (β = 1.746; p 0.001), whereas community membership duration showed no significant relationship (β = 0.127; p = 0.795). These findings suggest that the quality of psychological attachment within the community plays a greater role in enhancing resilience than the length of membership. This research highlights the importance of community-based psychological support as a buffer against stress during crises. Beyond providing new insights in the pandemic context, the findings are practically relevant for developing community-based strategies to improve the psychological resilience and well-being of online ride-hailing drivers as a vulnerable group.

Abstract

The phenomenon of public display of affection (PDA), or the act of expressing affection in public spaces, has become increasingly prevalent among Indonesian adolescents. However, this practice often sparks debate, as Indonesian culture upholds values of modesty and Eastern norms that generally regard public displays of affection as inappropriate. This study aims to examine the contribution of possessiveness and self-existence in predicting public display of affection attitude among Indonesian adolescents. Employing a quantitative approach, the study involved 300 adolescents aged 13–18 years in Indonesia, selected through a cluster sampling technique. The instruments used included the Love Addiction Inventory, the Self-Existential Scale, and a public display of affection attitude scale developed by the researchers. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The findings revealed that possessiveness and self-existence significantly influenced public display of affection attitude, contributing a total of 60%. Furthermore, significant differences were found based on gender in the average scores of the public display of affection and self-existence variables, with male adolescents tending to have higher average scores on both variables. These results provide a basis for developing educational programs on healthy expressions of affection and serve as a reference for further research on the psychological dynamics within adolescent interpersonal relationships.
