Abstract

Indonesia introduced a controversial nickel downstreaming policy in 2020 despite limited technological and managerial capacities, triggering both domestic concerns and international disputes, including with the European Union at the World Trade Organization. This article examines the factors underlying the emergence of this policy, focusing on the role of the international knowledge structure. This study employs a qualitative approach using document-based analysis of secondary data from official reports, government publications, and digital sources. Through an interpretive framework, the concept of international knowledge structure is used as a sensitizing lens to analyze how global knowledge dynamics shape state behavior. The findings show that the international knowledge structure indirectly influences economic policy by generating new industrial demands through technological development and innovation. In this case, the growing global demand for electric vehicles creates opportunities for resource-rich countries like Indonesia to leverage nickel in global value chains. This article concludes that the international knowledge structure plays a significant role in shaping policy direction and provides strategic opportunities for developing countries to pursue economic upgrading. The study highlights the importance of aligning national strategies with global knowledge dynamics

Abstract

The Asia-Pacific region faces complex refugee challenges, particularly after the 2015 Andaman Sea crisis. In response, the Bali Process adopted the 2016 Bali Declaration, which emphasized protection-sensitive approaches, respect for non-refoulement, and regional cooperation in refugee management. However, Australia’s role as co-chair of the Bali Process became increasingly problematic under Prime Minister Scott Morrison from 2018 to 2022, as his administration adopted restrictive policies toward immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. This research aims to explain why Australia under Morrison neglected its Bali Process commitments in refugee protection and management. Using an actor-specific approach in Foreign Policy Analysis, this study employs a qualitative interpretive method with discourse analysis of Morrison’s public statements, policy responses, official documents, and secondary literature. The findings show that Morrison’s security-oriented problem representation, motivation to maintain domestic political support, and emotional distance from refugee protection contributed to Australia’s neglect of the Bali Declaration. This research contributes to Foreign Policy Analysis by showing how leaders’ perceptions, motivations, and emotions shape state behavior toward regional humanitarian commitments, while also offering practical insights into the domestic political constraints on refugee protection

Abstract

Key determinants of Infant Mortality across Asian countries are examined in this study using secondary data from the World Development Indicators. By focusing on variables including access to clean water, female literacy rate, health expenditure, immunisation of children, and per capita GDP, the study employs an OLS regression framework for 41 countries. Regression results reveal that improving water accessibility is the most influential factor, followed by a higher literacy rate among females, where a one-unit increase reduces IMR by 0.31 (p < 0.01), indicating its strong explanatory power Health expenditure and child immunisation coverage demonstrate a negative relation with IMR, with coefficients of −0.84 and −0.21, respectively, although the health spending effects vary across regions. Lastly, higher per capita GDP contributes to reducing the IMR. To ensure the validity and reliability of the data results, diagnostic tests, including Pairwise correlation, Multicollinearity, and Heteroskedasticity, were conducted. These tests confirm the model’s robustness, allowing for accurate interpretation while also taking into account structural heterogeneity and disparities across countries that shape differential health outcomes. Model’s R² (0.81), values indicate strong explanatory power, suggesting that selected variables account for a substantial portion of the IMR variations across Asian countries. The findings offer crucial insights suggesting that interventions, including improving water access, enhancing female literacy, and higher public health expenditure, can contribute to reducing the IMR in regions.

Abstract

This study examines how intrinsic motivation and monetary incentives affect employee loyalty in the food and beverage sector. Given the high turnover rate in the service sector, the goal of this study is to ascertain how workers’ long term commitment may be strengthened by combining material incentives with psychological reinforcement. This research employs both descriptive and associative methodologies in a quantitative manner. 100 workers were chosen using the Slovin algorithm with a 5% margin of error, and structured questionnaires were used to gather data. Using IBM SPSS version 27, multiple linear regression, traditional assumption tests, and hypothesis tests (t-test and F-test) utilized to analyze the data. The result show that employee loyalty is significantly improved by both monetary incentive and intrinsic motivation, both concurrently and partly. The F-test results (F = 74.775; sig. 0.000) confirm the simultaneous effect, according to the coefficient of determination (R2= 0.607), these two factors account for 60.7% of the variance in employee loyalty. In comparison to intrinsic motivation (t = 4.195), financial reward has a somewhat greater impact (t = 7.699). The regression model ???? = 0.133 + 0.289 (????1) + 0.335 (????2), this study demonstrates that retaining employee loyalty un the F&B industry requires a mix of monetary incentives and psychological support. The research suggests that F&B managers combine financial compensation and intrinsic motivation to optimize staff retention. This well-being and professional recognition-based strategy effectively reduces turnover costs and increases productivity, ultimately supporting service industry stability and regional economic growth. Theoretically, this study updates HR management by proving that the synergy between incentives and psychological factors is key to loyalty, going beyond previous research that focused on only one aspect.

Abstract

This article analyzes the judicial reasoning in West Jakarta District Court Decision No. 596/Pid.B/2023/PN Jkt.Brt concerning motor vehicle theft with violence, with a focus on the defendant’s attempt to distance himself from the violent elements of the crime. Such a defense strategy is conceptually parallel to exoneration clauses in contract law, which seek to exclude or limit liability. Through the lens of Radbruch’s triadic values of law justice, legal certainty, and utility, the study highlights the contradictions arising from the judicial rejection of exoneration claims in collective violent crimes. While exoneration clauses serve to ensure fairness and proportionality in civil contexts, their transposition into criminal law risks undermining deterrence and public order. Empirical observations reveal inconsistent judicial interpretations in Indonesia, compounded by institutional limitations and lack of specialized consumer or criminal law adjudication. Comparative insights from the European Union and Australia underscore the importance of regulatory clarity and strict enforcement to safeguard fairness in contractual and criminal contexts alike. The article concludes by proposing a normative framework for reform that emphasizes clearer sentencing guidelines, statutory restrictions on exoneration in collective crimes, and alignment with international best practices. These findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on balancing fairness, legal certainty, and public protection in Indonesian criminal law.

Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze how profitability and leverage influence stock prices, with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure positioned as a moderating variable. Using a purposive selection approach with 33 samples, the study focuses on businesses in the basic materials industry that were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2024. The data was analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) and multiple linear regression using IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings demonstrate that stock prices are positively and statistically significantly impacted by profitability as determined by ROA. Conversely, the DER, a proxy for leverage, doesn't seem to have much of an impact. Additionally, while it has no effect on the relationship between leverage and stock prices, ESG disclosure strengthens the relationship between profitability and stock prices. These results indicate that investors care more about profitability and sustainability than about capital structure. Therefore, combining ESG practices with financial performance is important for increasing the value of a company and making it more appealing to investors.
