Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the Arabic vocabulary mastery of second-grade students at Alif Rimba Elementary School through the implementation of the Drill Method in the learning process. The Drill Method was selected because it is considered effective for foreign language instruction, particularly Arabic, as it helps students develop vocabulary memorization and comprehension skills through repetitive and structured practice. The activity was carried out in the form of Arabic language learning assistance involving second-grade students at Alif Rimba Elementary School. The implementation stages included needs identification, learning activities using the Drill Method, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results demonstrated an improvement in students’ ability to memorize and understand Arabic vocabulary. This improvement was evidenced by the evaluation results, which showed an increase in the number of students who correctly answered the test questions in the post-test compared to the pre-test. Therefore, the Drill Method can serve as an effective alternative learning strategy for enhancing Arabic vocabulary mastery among elementary school students.

Abstract

Access to safe and clean water remains a critical challenge in many educational institutions and local communities, particularly those relying on groundwater sources without adequate treatment. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge, technical skills, and environmental awareness through a workshop on constructing simple water filtration systems using locally available materials. The activity was conducted at SMK Darul Hikmah Kranjingan using a project-based learning approach that combined 20% theoretical instruction and 80% hands-on practice. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-activity surveys covering cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. The results indicate a substantial improvement in student competencies, where more than 60% of students reached moderate to very good levels of understanding in the cognitive domain, 70–80% demonstrated basic technical skills in assembling water filters, and over 90% showed positive attitudes toward clean water and sanitation. The constructed filter prototypes functioned effectively in improving water clarity based on visual observation. Overall, this program demonstrates that practice-based learning in community service activities is effective in strengthening vocational skills, improving water literacy, and fostering responsible water use behavior. The program contributes directly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Abstract

Oral health is a crucial component of quality of life, especially for early childhood, who are vulnerable to tooth decay due to suboptimal hygiene practices and a habit of consuming sugary foods. Brushing teeth with the correct technique and timing is a fundamental step in preventing dental health problems, including caries. However, lack of knowledge and skills in proper tooth brushing remains a major factor in the high prevalence of caries in children. World Health Organizations and Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia emphasize the importance of maintaining dental health from an early age, with the goal of ensuring children are free of caries and able to maintain their own dental health. Promotive and preventive efforts through health education are an effective strategy in fostering proper tooth brushing behavior. Therefore, systematic and sustainable educational interventions are needed to improve children's knowledge and skills in maintaining oral health. It is hoped that appropriate health education will reduce the incidence of caries and improve the level of oral health in school-age children.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the competency of structural consultants in identifying early structural damage indicators on peat-soil buildings in West Kalimantan as a preventive measure for collapse risk mitigation. The activity was conducted at CV. Bhipraya Cipta, Pontianak, involving seven civil engineering professionals with three to twelve years of experience. The methodology combined participatory education, demonstration-based training, technology dissemination, and focus group discussion (FGD), organized in three phases: pre-test baseline assessment, training implementation, and post-test evaluation. Training sessions covered differential settlement mechanisms in peat foundations, visual damage classification based on SNI 1726:2019 and SNI 2847:2019, failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) for structural risk prioritization, and practical field inspection checklist exercises using documented peat-building case photographs. Evaluation using the normalized gain method (Hake, 1998) yielded an overall mean N-gain of 0.63 (moderate category), with individual scores ranging from 0.60 to 0.67, indicating consistent competency improvement regardless of experience heterogeneity. The highest gain was recorded for crack pattern identification (g = 0.69) and the lowest for failure mode prioritization (g = 0.58). The FGD identified three critical procedural gaps: absence of standardized inspection protocols, unfamiliarity with damage severity thresholds specific to peat foundations, and lack of structured reporting procedures. The activity produced a validated field inspection checklist covering 35 items across five structural element groups as a practical outcome for direct implementation in routine building inspections in West Kalimantan peat areas.
