Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a simple and appropriate method of measuring food consumption diversification (FD) in relation to food security and nutritional quality of the diet (NQ). In this method family food consumption is grouped into five major food groups, FMF (staple food, meats/side dish, vegetables, fruit, and milk), which are counted by applying using adult male consumer¡¦s unit. The NQ is defined as the mean nutrient adequacy of eighth nutrients (i.e. energy, protein, ferrum, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B1, and vitamin C.)Eighth measures of FD were developed. The first two measurements were developed based on the quantity of five major food group (FMF) consumed, namely score 53 and score 54. While the other six alternative measurements were based on score 53 is the FD measurement based on FMF and 3 level of number of kinds of food consumed, that are (1) number of kinds of staple food, (2) number of kinds of side dish, (3) number of kinds of vegetables, (4) number of kinds of fruit, (5) number of kinds of milk, (6) total of number of kinds of food consumed.Among the 8 measurements based on number of kinds of food consumption diversification measurement based on total of food kinds of five food groups is the most valid although the validity is lower than food consumption measurement based on number of food consumption (score 53 and score 54). The result shows that the simplest and most valid measurement of FD is score 53, the score that based on the amount of consumption of five food groups (staple food, side dish, vegetables, fruits, and milk) by implementing score system of 3 level category. The score 53 shows not only the NQ as a whole but shows that nutrient adequacy of each nutrient as well.

Abstract

The proposed study was to know implementation of Prosperous Family Savings (Takesra) and Prosperous Family Business Credit (Kukesra). This study was conducted in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The total sample was 76 women accepting Takesra and Kukesra. Takesra/Kukesra implementation processes involve inputs, process and output. The outputs of Takesra were: 1) active depositors were 26,32 % and passive depositors were 73,68 %. 2) The balance of Takesra declines from Rp. 101.435.435 to Rp. 99.777.131. The outputs of Kukesra were: 1) amount of groups accepting Kukesra increases from 140 groups to 163 groups. 2) amount of Kukesra fund rises from Rp. 210.740.000 to Rp. 281.460.000. 3) amount of groups behind in their credit payments declined from 75 groups to 64 groups. 4) amount of Kukesra outstanding declined from Rp. 58.984.493 to Rp. 55.876.084. 5) Paired Samples t Test showed that income after receiving Kukesra was different than before. The Spearman¡¦s Correlation Analysis showed that knowledge about Takesra/ Kukesra was related to attitude of participant. The Chi-Square Analysis showed that attitude of participant was related to being active of Takesra. Pearson¡¦s Correlation Analysis showed that amount of Kukesra was related to the increase income.

Abstract

he purpose of this study was to identify brands of fried oil consumed by consumers, to examine consumers¡¦ perceptions of brands¡¦ popularity, quality, and price, and to analyze the relationships among perceptions of brands¡¦ popularity, quality, price, and brands¡¦ consumption. Data were collected from 150 graduate students of IPB in March 2000. The results of the study showed three brands of fried oil: Bimoli, Filma, and Tropical were most likely to be consumed by respondents. Respondents perceived Bimoli as the most popular brands, followed by Filma, and Tropical. However, majority of respondents perceived Filma as the best quality of brands, followed by Bimoli and Tropical. The majority of respondents also perceived Filma as the most expensive brands, followed by Bimoli and Sunrice. The results also showed that perceived popularity of brands was not related to brand consumption. Respondents who perceived a certain brand as the most popular were not likely to buy and to consume that brand.

Abstract

This research was conducted to study the iodium level in seaweed (Euchema cottonii) juice as the alternative to pprevent the iodium deficiency disorders. The result showed that fresh seaweed contained 91,19 % water, 5,07 % ash, 0,27 % fat, 0,27 % protein, 3,22 % carbohydrate and 2,81 ppm iodium. However, the most preferred seaweed juice contained 83,41 % water, 0,04 % ash, 0,48 % fat, 0,15 % protein, 15,93 % carbohydrate and 1,03 ppm iodium. The characteristics of seaweed juice were as follows : iodium level ranged from 0,62 - 1,99 ppm, pH 3,14 - 3,42, acid total 0,32 - 0,51 %, glucose level 11,00 - 18,13 % and dissolved suspension total 1,35 - 1,36 Brix. The organoleptic test showed that the most preferred seaweed juice was one in comparison with water 1:7 and 25 % glucose (A3B3) supplemented
