Abstract

The use of urea-biochar granular fertilizer is intended to overcome the problem of inefficiency in the excessive use of urea fertilizer. The efficiency of urea is relatively low because 40-70% of N is lost from the soil. The purpose of this study was to determine the agronomic efficiency of acrylic acid-coated bamboo urea-biochar fertilizer on shallot plants. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of UPT Plant Pest and Disease Control Center in Celuk Sukawati Gianyar Village, and in the Laboratory of Soil and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with a single factor consisting of 9 treatments and repeated 3 times. Parameters observed were plant growth yields (height, weight of tubers and fresh litter, weight of tubers and oven-dried litter, number of tillers), fertilizer agronomic efficiency. The results showed that the S30 treatment significantly increased the shallot plant height by 43.67 cm, the weight of the oven-dried bulbs by19.68 g and the RAE value by 362%, so that fertilization with the S30 treatment was the most efficient compared to other treatments and could be used by farmers in increasing the growth and yield of shallot plants.

Abstract

Agricultural development has still had significant roles on economic development in Indonesia. Rice farming is addressed to increase the productivity and quality of product by using improved agricultural practices including irrigation water management. In Bali province (Indonesia), the existence of subak as traditional irrigation system with socio-agrarian-religious in nature, could be a one of the local cultural institutions for supporting government in the food security program. The main functions of subak are distributing and allocating irrigation water among the subak’s members and between or among the subaks which are getting water from the separated dams on a similar river. These functions are supported by the implementation of internal by-laws own by each subak governing the mechanism of planting schedule, cropping patterns, water borrowing, including ritual ceremonies conducted in the relation to phases of rice planting. Subak system as social capital, therefore, could ensure the availability of irrigation water over the year. Thus, the rice farming development programmed by government could be achived by the effective subak system.

Abstract

Phytoremediation is usually applied to passively treat Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) by constructing a wetland. To increase the success of the AMD treatment method, laboratory trials were carried out on a pilot scale, and the experimental results were applied on an actual scale. Therefore, a simple design will be prepared for this research that replicates the wetland work system. This research aimed to produce a prototype that could be used for initial testing of phytoremediation on a smaller scale before being applied to field conditions. The installation design was created using Adobe Illustrator software. The trial lasted two months, using modified acid water and flowing it periodically as controlled droplets via an infusion tap into the media that used Typha sp and Pistia stratiotes L as phytoremediator agents. This equipment was tested with three acidity levels, 4, 5, and 6, repeated twice for two months. Results showed that the prototype was built using three buckets arranged in layers, each with its function. The phytoremediation process had successfully occurred in this study, and installation was suitable to support the process. There was a change in AMD acidity around the plants for five weeks and an increase in acidity the fourth week after treatment at the outlet. It could be seen that AMD with lower acidity levels resulted in greater plant damage in the sixth week, but Typha sp still showed resistance to an acidic environment.
