Abstract

Pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of death among children under five in Indonesia. In Garut Regency, a total of 9,865 pneumonia cases were recorded in 2023, with Kadungora Primary Health Center reporting 276 cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) with pneumonia in children under five during the same period. Most cases experienced delays in treatment due to low family knowledge and awareness regarding early symptoms and initial actions to take. This study aims to describe family understanding, health-seeking behaviors, and factors influencing the management of ARI pneumonia in children under five. A qualitative method was employed through in-depth interviews with two families of children diagnosed with pneumonia and two local healthcare workers. The results revealed that most families failed to recognize the early signs and symptoms of pneumonia, tended to rely on traditional remedies, and had limited access to health information. However, families who had received health education from community health volunteers responded more promptly and appropriately in seeking medical care. Key factors influencing family behavior included socioeconomic conditions, knowledge level, and access to information. This study highlights the crucial role of active healthcare provider involvement and community-based education in increasing awareness and promoting timely management to reduce morbidity and mortality from pneumonia in children under five.

Abstract

Nutritional status is the condition of the body as a result of food consumption and the use of nutrients. Physical activity and dietary diversity are factors that can effect nutritional status in adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity and dietary diversity score with nutritional status in adolescents at SMK Negeri 4 Surakarta. This study used a cross-sectonal design with a sample of 61 randomly selected adolescents. Physical activity data were obtained by interview using the IPAQ questionnaire, while dietary diversity intake data were obtained by 3x24 hour recall, namely on 2 weekdays and 1 weekend day on a form containing 9 food groups. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between physical activity and nutrional status in adolescents (p=0,002), but there was no significant relationship between dietary diversity score and nutritional status in adolescents (p=0,0553). This finding indicates that physical activity affects nutritional status in adolescents but dietary diversity cannot represent nutritional status because nutritional status is a representation of long-term consumption patterns.

Abstract

Excessive use of cement in construction projects can result in air pollution which can trigger health problems. For this reason, innovation is needed by using environmentally friendly organic materials such as sugarcane bagasse waste as a partial substitute for cement to make environmentally friendly concrete. The use of sugarcane bagasse waste as a partial substitute for cement can prevent environmental pollution due to dust produced by cement. This research aims to make maximum use of sugarcane bagasse waste as a concrete mixture. The method used in this research is an experimental method through the preparation stage, aggregate inspection, job mix design, slump test, making test objects, caring for test objects, testing concrete volume weight and testing concrete compressive strength. The sugarcane bagasse powder used is 0% composition; 2.5%; 5%; 7.5% and 10%. Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the average concrete compressive strength values at variations of 0%; 2.5%; 5%; 7.5% and 10% are 24.08 MPa; 21.98 MPa; 17.67 MPa; 14.54 MPa and 11.66 MPa, respectively. Sugarcane bagasse powder can be used to make environmentally friendly concrete or as a partial replacement for cement. In order to make optimally environmentally friendly concrete, it is recommended that cement be mixed with 2.5% sugarcane bagasse powder.

Abstract

Exploration is a crucial stage in mining activities, providing quantitative and qualitative information about the existence of mineral deposits. One direct exploration method used is core drilling, which involves retrieving subsurface rock samples (cores) for laboratory analysis. The results of these analyses serve as a fundamental database for resource estimation. One key parameter for evaluating the success of core drilling is the core recovery value, which is the ratio of the length of the core obtained to the total length drilled. This value reflects how well the core represents actual subsurface geological conditions. PT Pegasus Mineral Nusantara is currently conducting core drilling activities as part of a gold exploration project located in Paya Tampu Village, Rusip Antara District, Central Aceh Regency, Aceh Province. However, several issues have been encountered during core drilling, such as core loss due to falling back into the borehole and discrepancies in measured core lengths (gain/loss). This study aims to calculate and analyze core recovery using the Total Core recovery (TCR) method from drilling samples and identify the factors affecting core recovery success. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to improving the quality and reliability of mineral exploration drilling programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the subsurface lithology in the landslide-prone area at KM-25 West Cross Road using a 2-dimensional resistivity method with a dipole-dipole configuration on two measurement tracks. The inversion results reveal significant lithological heterogeneity, with a low resistivity zone (<50 Ωm) at a depth of 5-20 metres, interpreted as a water-saturated clay layer or weathered material. The physical properties of this layer contribute to increased pore pressure, potentially forming a slip plane. The transition zone between the saturated clay layer and hard rock with high resistivity (>100 Ωm) is identified as a geomechanically weak zone prone to ground movement, primarily when saturation occurs due to heavy rainfall. The resistivity cross-section of the second pass shows similar features, with a thicker and wider zone of very low resistivity (<30 Ωm), indicating the presence of soft clays or unconsolidated fill. These results emphasise the importance of early detection of subsurface resistivity contrasts as indicators of landslide potential. This research provides an essential contribution to disaster mitigation efforts and can serve as a basis for spatial planning and infrastructure design to enhance resilience against geological hazards.

Abstract

The application of computer technology in athlete motion analysis has become an innovative approach to improving performance evaluation. This study aims to analyze the biomechanics of pétanque athletes' boules movements using video tracking technology as a performance evaluation tool. Pétanque is a precision sport that demands motor coordination, postural stability, and efficient throwing technique. By applying a digital-based video tracking method, athletes' movements are recorded and extracted into quantitative data such as joint angles, throwing velocity, and ball trajectory. This data is then analyzed using a biomechanical approach to identify optimal movement patterns and potential inefficiencies in individual techniques. The analysis results indicate a correlation between elbow flexion angle and throwing accuracy, as well as the importance of body rotation in supporting a stable throwing force. These findings provide practical insights for coaches and athletes in designing more focused and evidence-based training programs. This study also demonstrates the potential of video tracking technology as an effective, non-invasive tool to improve pétanque athletes' performance through objective and measurable movement evaluation.

Abstract

Precision control of DC motors in industrial and robotics applications is often compromised by external loads and the limitations of open-loop systems, which cause instability in rotational speed and angular position. This study aims to design and build a PID-based intelligent control module for integrated DC motor speed and position control using an STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller and a rotary encoder as feedback. This system is designed as a closed-loop system to reduce the error between the setpoint and the actual value. Tests were conducted under no-load and with-load conditions at various speed setpoints (10–30 RPM) and angular changes (slow and fast). The results show that the system is able to stabilize motor performance with an average speed error of −0.3033 and 0.2766 RPM (no-load) for Motors A and B, and 0.2633 and 3.47 RPM (with-load). For angular position control, the average errors were 0.69° and 0.895° (without load), and 0.475° and 0.335° (with load). These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the PID-based intelligent control module in improving system accuracy and stability. This system offers a compact and practical solution for industrial automation and robotics applications requiring precise motor control.

Abstract

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), as one of the main commodities in East Java Province, where only the leaves are utilized, while the stems become agricultural waste and are often burned, contributes to air pollution. Nonetheless, these tobacco stems possess potential for high-value chemical products, such as xylitol. This study investigated the optimum operating conditions for producing xylitol from tobacco stem waste. The process employed Ultrasound-Assisted Acid Hydrolysis followed by fermentation using Candida tropicalis. Hydrolysis was conducted in an ultrasonic bath that operates at 40 kHz and 50 watts, using 0.1 N H₂SO₄ as the solvent. The resulting hydrolysate was then fermented by adding Candida tropicalis (20 mL per 100 mL substrate) and incubating for 48 hours, 30 °C, 120 rpm shaker. Optimization was conducted utilizing Response Surface Methodology method to assess the interactions between operating variables (temperature, time, and volume of solvent during hydrolysis) and xylitol yield. The study investigated the optimum operating conditions to produce xylitol were 30 °C, 50 minutes, and 150 mL of solvent, yielding xylitol at a concentration of 5.6 g/L.

Abstract

Snack bars are an energy-rich food choice and can be a useful substitute for athletes to meet energy needs between main meals. As an effort to innovate food products and improve nutrition, a comparison of tempeh and red beans was conducted in making snack bars. The purpose of this study was to determine the reducing sugar content and acceptability of snack bars made from tempeh and red beans. This type of research is an experimental study with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), namely snack bars with a ratio of tempeh and red beans Formula A (85g:65g), B (75g:75g), and C (65g:85g). Testing of reducing sugar levels was analyzed using One Way Anova followed by the LSD test. Data collection of the acceptability test used an acceptability test form involving 30 panelists and was analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test. The results showed the highest reducing sugar content in the ratio of tempeh and red beans (75g:75g) which was 26.67% and the lowest in the ratio of tempeh and red beans (85g:65g) which was 21.78%. The results of the snack bar acceptability test showed significant differences in texture parameters between Formula A and Formula B, Formula A and Formula C snack bars (p<0.05), while there were no differences in color, aroma, taste, texture, and overall parameters (p>0.05). There was an effect of the ratio of tempeh and red beans on the reducing sugar content and texture acceptability of the snack bar.
