Abstract

Unsafe behavior is widely recognized as the primary cause of workplace accidents. To encourage safe work practices, organizations must implement an effective safety management system that emphasizes strong leadership, clear communication, and genuine commitment to safety. This study aims to assess the influence of these three components, safety leadership, communication, and commitment on workers’ safety behavior. A cross-sectional design was employed, with data collected from 80 respondents at Platform A of PT. X through total sampling. The study used a structured questionnaire adapted from the 2024 Indonesia Oil and Gas Safety Management System Assessment Guidelines. The dependent variable was safety behavior. The independent variables included safety leadership, safety communication, and safety commitment. Data analysis involved univariate, bivariate (chi-square), and multivariate (binary logistic regression) techniques. Findings indicate that all three safety management components significantly impact workers’ safety behavior (p=0,0001). Among them, safety leadership emerged as the most influential factor (PR=12,701). Based on these results, it is recommended that PT. X strengthen its safety leadership practices through more proactive, consistent, and visible engagement by leaders in the field.

Abstract

The effect of additive corn cob ash (CA) on Portland Composite Cement (PCC) on the compressive strength of the mortar is influenced by pozzolan. The material that makes up pozzolan is silica. Corn cobs are agricultural waste that contains silica and every year continue to increase, so corn cob waste is as an additional material to Portland Composite Cement (PCC). This study was conducted to determine the compressive strength value of mortar using additive corn cob ash (CA) and corn cob ash that has been washed with HCl 2N (CA*) and the feasibility of these additives as a PCC-type cement mixture. The weight percentages of additives used were 5%, 10%, and 15%, and the duration of the mortar compressive strength test was 3, 7, and 28 days. The experimental results showed that the compressive strength (σm) was highest at the addition of 5% additives, the effect of additives on compressive strength resulted in σm research > standard σm (SNI). The results of the activation index analysis obtained additive corn cob ash of 76% and corn cob ash+HCl 2N of 76.71%, the value is above the minimum limit according to ASTM C.618-99 which is 75%.

Abstract

Iron commodities are one of the very important commodities and are used in various sectors. The supply of iron and its derivatives has so far relied solely on mining results. However, the impact of mining results can be detrimental from geological, environmental, and health perspectives. One potential that is often overlooked is iron rust waste. The synthesis of iron oxide pigments from iron rust waste can be done using the precipitation method with variations of 1M and 4M HCl concentration and variations of the precipitant NH4OH 4M and NaOH 4M. The synthesized iron oxide shows red solids for the NaOH precipitant variation and blackish-red for the NH4OH precipitant. EDS results indicate that the NH4OH precipitant generates purer iron oxide pigments compared to NaOH. In the SEM testing, it was observed that iron oxide was successfully synthesized with a crystalline phase, namely the formation of rhombohedral crystals in the HEM2 and HEM4 variation, as evidenced by XRD testing showing 11 peaks at 2θ(º) 24.2; 33.3; 35.6; 41; 49.6; 54.2; 57.7; 62.5; 64.1; 69.7; and 72.1 compared to JCPDS 33-0664.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial period in life, therefore this period is considered vulnerable and has significant health risks. One of the nutritional problems experienced by adolescents is anemia. Anemia can occur because the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin levels in red blood cells is lower than normal. This study used an observational method with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted in April 2025. The population in this study were all female students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta Class of 2023, totaling 88 samples, this study used a simple random sampling technique. The results showed that the majority of respondents were from the nutrition science study program (29.0%) and the majority were 20 years old (42.0%). Most respondents were not accustomed to eating breakfast (58.0%) with an intake percentage of 25%. In terms of nutritional status, 43.0% of respondents were in the normal nutritional category, 32.0% were overweight, and 25% were classified as malnourished. Regarding hemoglobin levels, as many as 51.0% of respondents had anemia, and 49.0% were classified as not anemic. Based on the analysis results, a relationship was found between breakfast habits and nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in female adolescents at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta.

Abstract

Kalanchoe pinnata leaves are rich in bioactive compounds, including flavonoids and phenolic constituents, which exhibit notable antioxidant properties. However, the efficiency of extraction processes is highly influenced by operational variables such as the type of physical pre-treatment and maceration duration. This study aims to evaluate the effect of three physical pre-treatment methods (manual grinding, chopping, and blending) and maceration periods ranging from 3 to 5 days on the antioxidant activity of K. pinnata leaf extracts using the DPPH radical scavenging assay. Results indicate that the grinding method combined with five days of maceration yields the highest antioxidant activity (95.04%), while blending leads to the lowest activity (81.78%), presumably due to heat-induced degradation of active compounds. Kinetic observations show that antioxidant activity tends to plateau on day five, particularly in ground samples. These findings highlight the critical influence of particle size reduction and solvent–solid contact time on mass transfer efficiency during extraction. This preliminary investigation provides a scientific basis for further research on the optimization of natural antioxidant extraction processes and the development of functional herbal formulations derived from K. pinnata leaves.

Abstract

The problem of choice overload on TV series streaming platforms often makes it difficult for users to find content that suits their preferences. To address this challenge, this study develops a Content-Based Filtering-based recommendation system by applying the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm and the Jaccard Similarity metric. The designed system analyzes users' genre preferences, such as Drama, Sci-Fi, and Comedy, while integrating rating, popularity, and release year factors to generate more personalized recommendations. Evaluation of 500 TV series titles from the TMDB API shows a high level of accuracy, with Precision and Recall reaching 1.0 for specific genre preferences, as well as stable performance with an F1-Score of 0.67 for cross-genre preferences. These findings prove that the proposed model is effective in reducing choice overload and significantly improving the user experience in exploring content on streaming platforms. Furthermore, this approach has the potential to be further developed by integrating sentiment analysis and real-time audience behavior data to generate increasingly adaptive and relevant recommendations.

Abstract

Photocatalysis is one of the environmentally friendly technologies with great potential to address global issues related to pollution and the demand for clean energy. However, limitations of conventional photocatalyst materials, such as low light absorption and high electron–hole recombination rates, have hindered optimal efficiency. This review highlights the role of carbon-based materials as the latest innovation in enhancing photocatalytic performance. Various forms of carbon materials, including graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), carbon quantum dots (CQDs), and porous carbon, have been shown to improve charge separation, broaden the light absorption spectrum into the visible region, and enhance the structural stability of photocatalysts. Literature analysis indicates that the integration of carbon with semiconductors significantly increases pollutant degradation efficiency, cycle stability, and the potential application in renewable energy production. Moreover, the utilization of biomass waste as a source of porous carbon opens opportunities for more economical, sustainable, and eco-friendly technologies. This article provides a comprehensive overview of research progress, performance enhancement mechanisms, and future development directions of carbon-based photocatalysts, which are expected to contribute to innovative solutions in the fields of energy and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Determining the ripeness level of Salak Sidempuan fruit manually is often inaccurate, as it relies on human visual perception, which can be affected by lighting conditions, eye fatigue, and subjective judgment. Such limitations may reduce sorting quality and the market value of the fruit. This study proposes an automated ripeness classification system for Salak Sidempuan based on digital image processing using the K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) algorithm combined with the Hue Saturation Value (HSV) color model. The dataset consists of images of Salak Sidempuan at three ripeness stages (unripe, half-ripe, and ripe) captured using a smartphone camera. The process involves preprocessing, converting RGB images to HSV, extracting the average H, S, and V values, and classifying them using K-NN with Euclidean distance and K=5. The aim of this research is to design and implement a MATLAB-based application capable of classifying the ripeness level of Salak Sidempuan fruit quickly, accurately, and consistently. The evaluation was conducted on 15 test images to measure system performance using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The experimental results show that the system achieved an accuracy of 80%, with high precision and recall values for the unripe and ripe classes. The Hue component proved to be the most stable parameter for distinguishing ripeness levels compared to Saturation and Value. This system is considered effective in supporting the objective sorting process of Salak Sidempuan and has the potential for further development into field-deployable solutions such as Android or IoT-based applications.

Abstract

Nutritional status in women of reproductive age is strongly influenced by food security, which plays an essential role in maintaining health. This study aimed to examine the correlation between household food security and the nutritional status of women of reproductive age in the Bendosari Community Health Center area, which covers three villages: Mulur, Mertan, and Toriyo. A total of 162 participants were selected using a simple random sampling method in this cross-sectional research. Food security was assessed using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) consisting of nine items related to food access, while nutritional status was measured through Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), which represents the amount of fat reserves in the body. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p<0.05. Findings revealed that 70.4% of respondents had household incomes below the regional minimum wage, and 9.9% were categorized as malnourished. The Chi-Square test produced a p-value of 0.037 (p<0.05), indicating a significant association between food security and women’s nutritional status in Bendosari. Food security is affected by factors such as income, education, knowledge, and household size, while women’s nutritional status is shaped by eating behaviors that, if poor, may result in health complications. These results highlight the importance of strengthening household food security to minimize the risk of Chronic Energy Deficiency among women of reproductive age.

Abstract

Women of childbearing age are women who are still of reproductive age, ranging from 15 to 49 years old. Women of childbearing age are a group that is vulnerable to nutritional problems. One factor contributing to nutritional problems in women of childbearing age is inadequate nutritional intake. This nutritional intake can be obtained from consuming local foods, which can improve nutritional status. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between local food intake and upper arm circumference in reproductive-age women in the Bendosari region. The research method used in this study was an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 162 participants was selected using random sampling and adjusted according to inclusion criteria such as being aged 19–39 years, not currently pregnant, not currently on a diet, and willing to participate as respondents. Data on local food intake were obtained from the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency SQ-FFQ form, while nutritional status was measured using upper arm circumference, a simple anthropometric indicator for assessing nutritional status, particularly muscle mass and body fat. This study used the Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed a significant association between energy intake (p = 0.000), protein intake (p = 0.005), fat intake (p = 0.004), and carbohydrate intake (p = 0.000) with nutritional status. It can be concluded that dietary intake influences nutritional status.
