Abstract

This study investigates the role of traditional markets in advancing the objectives of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah by conducting a qualitative case study of Pasar Baru Sungai Dama in Samarinda, Indonesia. The research applies a thematic analysis grounded in the five dimensions of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah—preservation of religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), intellect (ḥifẓ al-ʿaql), progeny (ḥifẓ al-nasl), and wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl). Data were collected through interviews, field observations, and documentation reviews, and analyzed inductively to identify how market practices align with Shariah-based ethical and economic values. Findings reveal that Pasar Baru supports religious practices, provides safety and hygiene infrastructure, fosters ethical education, accommodates family needs, and enhances financial inclusion. These dimensions demonstrate the capacity of traditional markets to contribute meaningfully to Islamic socio-economic goals beyond mere commerce. The study concludes that with deliberate ethical governance, traditional markets can serve as inclusive Shariah-compliant institutions. Implications for Islamic economics, public policy, and local governance are discussed, with recommendations for broader application and future comparative research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial personality on the business success of palm sugar enterprises in Luyo Village, Polewali Mandar Regency. The research employed a quantitative method with a survey approach. A total of 30 palm sugar entrepreneurs were selected as respondents using a simple random sampling technique. Research instruments were tested for validity and reliability, showing that all items were valid and reliable. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results reveal that entrepreneurial knowledge does not have a significant effect on the business success of palm sugar enterprises, as indicated by a significance value of 0.414 and a t-value of 0.830, which is lower than the critical t-table value of 2.051. Conversely, entrepreneurial personality has a significant and positive influence on business success, with a significance value of 0.014 and a t-value of 2.618, exceeding the t-table threshold. These findings suggest that formal entrepreneurial knowledge may not play a major role in determining the success of traditional businesses such as palm sugar production. Instead, personal traits like persistence, risk-taking, and creativity are more influential in driving entrepreneurial success. The study contributes to a contextual understanding of how internal characteristics affect small business outcomes in traditional, resource-based settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income comparison between side-grafting and local cocoa farming in Riso Village, Polewali Mandar Regency. The research method used is a quantitative approach with primary and secondary data sources, and sampling was conducted using the Slovin method. Data analysis was performed using income analysis and R/C ratio. The results show that side-grafting cocoa farming is more profitable, with a total income of IDR 72,006,107 per hectare per year. The feasibility analysis indicates that the R/C ratio for side-grafting is 19.4 and for local cocoa farming is 15.6, meaning both types of farming are feasible to run. Side-grafting cocoa farming also has the advantage of easier maintenance, which can save time and costs for farmers. However, farmers need to consider weather factors when performing grafting to increase the success of side-grafting cocoa farming. This research provides valuable information for farmers and policymakers in developing more productive and profitable cocoa farming.
