Abstract

Pemberitaan penolakan warga Aceh terhadap kedatangan etnis Rohingya menimbulkan banyaknya respons dari masyarakat Indonesia, salah satunya di media Youtube. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktor yang memegang peran dalam respons dari jaringan komunikasi yang berlangsung pada kolom komentar dan menemukan adanya sentimen dari kalimat komentar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang menghasilkan data berupa frekuensi angka dan hasil analisis teks komentar melalui pendekatan Social Network Analysis berdasarkan alat bantu Netlytic.org dan Gephi. Melalui teori Jaringan Komunikasi, penelitian ini akan melihat interaksi yang berkembang di kolom komentar Youtube sebagai bentuk forum digital dalam terjadinya pertukaran pesan yang saling terhubung antar pengguna. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya aktor @men_sim sebagai aktor paling aktif dalam menyebarkan komentar, sementara aktor sebagai pemicu timbulnya respons dari aktor lain terhadap komentarnya yaitu @dyatra6410. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa respons masyarakat terhadap kedatangan etnis Rohingya berupa respons negatif pada kolom komentar sebagai ruang komunikasi publik digital. Penilitian ini berkontribusi dalam pemahaman dinamika jaringan komunikasi di media digital, khususnya pada media Youtube.

Abstract

Climate change is one of the most pressing global issues, yet its complexity often presents challenges for journalists in constructing accurate and compelling narratives. This study uses Berger and Luckmann's theory of the social construction of reality to understand how journalists shape climate change narratives in their journalistic practice. As an initial step, researchers distributed questionnaires to 30 environmental journalists, followed by in-depth interviews with five key informants. The study identified key determinants such as curiosity, professional experience, and critical reflection, as well as organizational factors including editorial support, access to training, and newsroom dynamics. The findings highlight the transformative role of journalists in shifting from traditional reporting to solutions-oriented journalism, which aims to inspire hope, motivate action, and support societal responses to climate change. The findings reveal that journalists with broader networks and stronger newsroom interactions tend to develop more in-depth narratives, contribute to solutions-based storytelling, and mobilize public awareness. An editorial environment that fosters autonomy and collaboration helps sustain journalistic engagement with environmental issues long-term. This study underscores the importance of micro-level interactions in shaping macro-level social narratives about climate change, highlighting journalists not only as conveyors of information but also as active agents of social transformation.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah menjadi salah satu isu lingkungan yang penting di Indonesia. Sampah yang tidak terkelola dengan baik memiliki berbagai dampak negatif, salah satunya adalah banjir. Di tengah rendahnya kesadaran kolektif, media sosial muncul sebagai ruang alternatif untuk mendorong keterlibatan publik dalam isu-isu lingkungan. Meskipun aktivisme siber di bidang lingkungan semakin marak, kajian akademik mengenai manifestasinya di TikTok masih terbatas, Padahal platform ini semakin berpengaruh dalam membentuk gerakan partisipatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Pandawara Group memanfaatkan TikTok sebagai medium aktivisme siber lingkungan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat. Dengan menggunakan analisis isi kualitatif, empat video dari akun @pandawaragroup dianalisis berdasarkan logika viralitas berbasis unggahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap video merepresentasikan tahapan berbeda dalam praktik aktivisme siber. Our End Year Party membangun kesadaran publik melalui pembingkaian kreatif. 1,014 Kilograms of Trash in the River menekankan urgensi kerusakan lingkungan melalui dokumentasi visual yang kuat. Aerobic with Clean Up memperlihatkan mobilisasi komunitas, sedangkan No Room for Environmental Degradation menampilkan keterlibatan pemangku kepentingan dalam aksi bersama. TikTok tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai media penyebaran, tetapi juga sebagai ruang partisipatif untuk mobilisasi, edukasi, dan pembentukan nilai. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada pemetaan proses aktivisme lingkungan berbasis TikTok yang bergerak dari kesadaran digital menuju partisipasi publik yang nyata.

Abstract

This study analyzes audience perceptions of the Cultural Performance G20 broadcast on Kompas TV’s YouTube channel as a medium for transmitting Indonesia’s cultural diversity values. Employing a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method, the research involved 100 respondents who are subscribers of Kompas TV on YouTube. The findings reveal that viewers have a positive perception of the broadcast, particularly on the cultural voice-over, which effectively highlights the richness of Indonesian culture. The results indicate that creatively packaged audio-visual content with strong narratives, visuals, and high-quality audio can enhance audience appreciation of cultural diversity. Based on the Uses and Gratification theory, the broadcast fulfills audience needs for information, entertainment, and personal identity, especially among Generation Z, which dominates the respondents.

Abstract

Artikel ini menganalisis relasi kuasa antara media online lokal dan pemerintah daerah dalam lanskap ekonomi digital di Jawa Timur. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh meningkatnya ketergantungan media lokal terhadap pendanaan publik dan tekanan algoritmik dari platform digital global. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif kritis dengan pendekatan Political Economy of Communication (PEC) Dwayne Winseck, melalui studi kasus instrumental pada dua media lokal: Kantor Berita Antara Biro Jawa Timur dan Harian Bhirawa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi terbatas, serta analisis isi terhadap konten media selama Februari–April 2025. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketergantungan finansial terhadap pemerintah daerah berdampak pada independensi redaksional dan mendorong praktik jurnalisme pesanan. Logika algoritma platform digital semakin meminggirkan konten lokal dan memperkuat ketimpangan visibilitas media. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa media lokal berada dalam tekanan struktural dari negara dan platform digital sekaligus. Diperlukan kebijakan desentralisasi informasi dan perlindungan terhadap independensi media untuk memperkuat demokrasi lokal di era digital.

Abstract

Impression Management merupakan upaya individu untuk mengelola kesan yang ingin ditampilkan kepada publik. Dalam ranah politik, citra positif menjadi penting bagi aktor politik seperti Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Wakil Presiden RI 2024-2029. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi strategi impression management yang digunakan Gibran melalui akun Instagram (@gibran_rakabuming) selama 100 hari pertama masa jabatannya, yakni periode 20 Oktober 2024 hingga 28 Januari 2025. 100 hari pertama dianggap sebagai periode krusial bagi aktor politik dalam membangun kesan yang baik dimata publik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi kuantitatif deskriptif milik Krippendorff terhadap 15 program yang terdapat dalam 141 unggahan Gibran, berdasarkan lima strategi dari Jones & Pittman (1982): ingratiation, intimidation, self promotion, exemplification, dan supplication. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Gibran dominan menggunakan kombinasi strategi ingratiation dan self promotion, dengan fokus pada pendekatan emosional dan bukti kinerja. Strategi ingratiation muncul pada unggahan delapan program prioritas, sedangkan self promotion muncul pada unggahan tujuh program. Meskipun ingratiation menjadi strategi paling banyak ditemukan, sub indikator dengan frekuensi tertinggi adalah laporan hasil kerja dari self promotion (18,36%). Sementara itu, strategi supplication tidak ditemukan, menunjukkan bahwa Gibran tidak membentuk citra melalui penonjolan kelemahan. Temuan ini mendukung kesan bahwa Gibran ingin tampil sebagai pemimpin muda yang simpatik, kompeten, dan percaya diri.

Abstract

Communication accommodation is a process that is undergone by all new members of a community. The rapid growth of online communities among Generation Z has fostered the emergence of unique linguistic practices, including semantic-shifted slang, which can present challenges for new members to adapt and integrate. This study examines how communication accommodation strategies are employed by members of the OMORI virtual community on Discord, focusing on the use of semantic-shifted slang as a tool for group adaptation. The OMORI community serves as a platform for the players to meet and discuss with other OMORI players. This study attempts to research the OMORI virtual community in Discord, where the group members also often have other smaller groups which help them in their communication accommodation process. Employing a case study qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews, findings reveal that convergence—through observation, imitation, and gradual adoption of slang—is the dominant strategy, with small groups serving as safe spaces for experimentation and learning. Divergence also occurs when slang conflicts with personal identity or self-image. This research contributes to the field of communication studies by deepening the understanding of Communication Accommodation Theory in virtual, interest-based communities, highlighting how slang functions as both a symbolic and practical tool for fostering cohesion, negotiating identity, and strengthening group membership in online spaces.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the creative industry, enabling machines to generate images and videos that can be compiled into narrative short films. This technological shift raises important questions about authorship, control, and meaning-making in digital media. This study aims to investigate how the master-slave dialectic, a philosophical concept describing power dynamics between entities, is portrayed in AI generated science fiction short films. Using qualitative content analysis, 10 AI generated short films were examined to identify how messages related to this dialectic are communicated. The analysis reveals three major categories, vulnerability, alienated, and automation. With vulnerability and automation being most prominently depicted, while alienated appears more subtly. Across these categories, eight subcategories were identified, including two new ones which are acceptance and rebellion, that extend Coeckelbergh’s framework and reflect diverse human responses to technological dominance. These results demonstrate that AI generated films can convey complex socio-technical tensions and function as an emerging form of mass communication, contributing to the discourse on human and technology relations in contemporary media.
