Abstract

Sand miners at the Depo in Jumoyo Village in Magelang have not received occupational health attention, particularly with work-related risks that may result in low back pain. One method to reduce low back pain is back exercise movement that was designed to strengthen some mus- cles. The purpose of this study was to identify pain reduction differences between before an after the exercise is applied by doing a quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group design. As the study sample was 30 sand miners in Jumoyo Depo who were non-randomly selected by using accidental sampling technique. Study results show that there was an increase in the num- ber of miners who complaining lower back pain in the category of “less pain” and “pain does not exist”. Data analysis with Wilcoxon test at 0,05 significance level show that there was a signifi- cant complaint reduction between before and after back exercise activity, in the experimental group (p value 0,001), meanwhile in control group the reduction was not observed.

Abstract

Air merupakan kebutuhan dasar bagi manusia, yang harus tersedia dalam kuantitas yang cukup dan kualitas yang memenuhi syarat. Kontaminasi zat-zat kimia yang melebihi batas aman pada air minum dalam jangka waktu tertentu dapat membahayakan kesehatan. Mangan merupakan logam yang keberadaannya jika dikonsumsi berlebihan dapat menimbulkan sindrom manga- nism. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui penurunan Mangan pada air sumur gali di Du- sun Kauman di Tamanan, Banguntapan, Bantul. setelah dilakukan penyaringan menggunakan filter resin. Penelitian ini merupakan kuasi eksperimen dengan desain pre-test post-test. Obyek penelitian adalah enam sumur dengan kandungan Mangan tinggi di Dusun Kauman Tamanan Banguntapan Bantul. Pemeriksaan parameter dilakukan di laboratorium BBTKLPP Provinsi Yog- yakarta. Hasil studi menunjukkan adanya perbedaan bermakna antara kadar Mangan sebelum dan sesudah penyaringan (nilai p=0,002). Penyaringan dengan filter resin secara rata-rata dapat menurunkan kadar Mangan sebesar 92,32%.

Abstract

Occupational fatigue will increase the level of work errors and reduce performance or producti- vity. If work errors increase, there will be opportunities for workplace accidents in the industry. The purpose of this study was to determine the analysis of noise level intensity on occupational fatigue among workers at PT Sinar Sosro Palembang. The research method uses total sampling or the entire population as the study sample i.e. 40 workers of production unit. The study results obtained p-value of 0,864, which means there is no relationship between the level of noise and work fatigue among production unit workers. Nonetheless, the workers who experience mild and medium fatigue are recommended to take a short break for 5-15 minutes every 1 to 2 hours and it is expected for employees to comply more fully with PPE regulations in order to avoid work accidents.

Abstract

High quality gethuk pisang should implement sanitation principles, such as for the processing equipments. The research purpose was to know the implementation of processing equipment sanitation at home industry X in Kediri, i.e. at the steps of banana steaming, ingredients mixing and gehuk pisang pressing. It was a descriptive study, and the data collection instrumen was using a checklist for equipment sanitation. The study results show that the equipment which have contact with food doesn’t meet equipment sanitation requirements i.e. <100%, while those which do not have contact, meet the requirements or 100%. The food contacted equipments must be made from safe and harmless materials for health. The next studies are recommended to evaluation the other aspects of sanitation, such as food sanitation, water sanitation, environ- mental sanitation etc.

Abstract

There were five kecamatans in Jambi City that have not fulfilled the program target of Larva Free Index, i.e. ?95%. The community member is needed to be actively engaged to drain their water containers. Larvanto-mobile is a device modified to catch larvae without draining the water. The aim of the study was to identify the number of Aedes sp larvae that can be caught by the device and to define its operational time. It was a pre-experiment quantitative study with post-test only design. Field observation was conducted on 40 randomly selected houses where larvae were found. The study results show that Larvanto-mobile can catch larvae as much as 12-14 per minute. The most siginificant catching time is in minute I, compared to minute II to minute V. The device can be operasionalized in a single battery recharge for four to six houses, and the ave- rage sucking time is about 11 to 20 minutes per house. For advanced study, in order to solve the lighting problem, it is recommended that Larvanto-mobile is equipped with mini flashlight to maxi- mize its larvae catching ability.

Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have difficulties managing occupational safety and health (OSH) in the workplaces. Besides being due to poor OSH conditions, it is also caused by a lack of systematic OSH management. Work improvement in small enterprises (WISE) is a participa- tory training program to assist small and medium businesses in increasing workplace productivity and efficiency through the application of OSH aspects. The research was aimed to analyze and evaluate the implementation of the WISE program at the gamelan craft house X in Paju, Pono- rogo. The research method used consisted of several stages, namely: literature study and field studies, and evaluation of working environment conditions using WISE checklist, and data analy- sis. The results showed that the application of OSH in the gamelan craft X was 27%. There are six critreria who need action, consisting of 17 points where 8 points require urgent action propo- sals (priority). Some priority actions proposed are to avoid placing material on the floor and pla - cing it in a particular storage area, placing separate waste containers at work for various types of waste, and placing flammable materials with secure. This research shows the low implementati- on of OSH in workplaces, especially in SMEs.

Abstract

Public places have the potential for disease transmission, environmental pollution, or other health problems, so sanitation is needed to create a clean environment in order to protect public health from the possibility of disease transmission and other health problems. Brawijaya Terminal is one of the public places crowded with the public to carry out transportation activities. The purpose of this research is to identify the general description of Brawijaya terminal sanitation in 2019. This research is a descriptive study with an observational approach that uses observation and interview methods to collect data. The instrument used in this study refers to the terminal sanitation inspection sheet instrument. The research instrument contains 5 variables, including the outside, the waiting room, sanitation facilities, occupational health and safety, and support. The results of the Brawijaya terminal sanitation research with 5 variables indicate that the Brawijaya terminal as a whole has met the terminal sanitation requirements with a total score of 1675 and is classified as good, namely 76.13%. For Brawijaya terminal sanitation to be maintained and to be even better, it is necessary to increase the sanitation variables which include latrines and urinals, hand washing facilities, and disposal of rainwater and dirty water.

Abstract

One technique that can be applied to reduce or to avoid occupational accidents is job safetyanalysis (JSA) method, which is determined based on parameters or stages where the accidentsare frequently occur. The purpose of this study is to minimize the danger of workplaceaccidents in the furniture production of PT X by implementing JSA method. The study was anobservational descriptive study. The respondents/sample was 119 out of 169 workers who areselected by using random sampling technique. The data showed that machine II had the greatestpotential for work accidents. These conditions were obtained from the data in previous year,interviews and direct field assessments. The danger posed by occupational accidents can resultin serious or minor injuries to workers' limbs. The OHS section of the company has carried outPPE control, installing OHS signs and initial training. However, work accidents still occur in 2018and 2019. The results of the study indicate that the potential for work accidents can be minimizedby increasing the OHS work program in the company including: improving the quality ofPPE, improving OHS discipline, and finally the application of the method of substitution on a toolthat could potentially cause danger. Thus, the potential hazards and risks can be prevented andmanaged properly. To conclude, JSA method is able to reduce work accidents by a percentagein accordance with the type of work in the production process.

Abstract

Because of its characteristics, magnet has important role in supporting the functioning of electronicdevices. However, abandoned magnet or magnet waste has potential harm for environmentand human. The purpose of this study was to reduce the accumulation of magnet waste and utilizeit as a source of electrical energy, by means of rotating the pedal of in the created tools, andthen the energy is then delivered to anchor component and then to capacitor. The study was apre-experiment with post test only design, where the electrical energy was used to LED lampand to charge mobile phone. The results showed that the power plant can turn on LED lights for15 minutes, and can charge mo-bile phone, i.e. in 5 minutes obtained 2% battery increase, in 10minutes 4% increase, and in 15 minutes 6% increase. It can be concluded that the created powergeneration equipment can be a solution to reduce magnet waste accumulation, and as thesource of electrical energy.

Abstract

One of chemical requirement for drinking water is hardness. Water with high level hardness isvery dangerous for human health, specifically for kidneys. MPN coliform as one of bacteriologicalrequirements for water quality is an indicator for excreta pollution. The aim of the study was todecrease water hardness and coliform in water wells of Jimbung Villages in Kalikotes, Klaten byinstalling ZeRAK filter, which consists of zeolite, resin, chlorine and activated charcoal. The studywas an experiment with pre-test and post-test design. As a study sample were 45 wells that wereconnected with plumbing in that village. The results show that before the filtration, the average ofwater hardness was 270 mg/l, while post-filtration it was 44 mg/l (84%). Coliform pre-filtrationwere in a range between 111 and 1898 MPN per 100 ml, and after treatment they were between0 and 7 MPN. Statistically, the differences are significant (both p-values <0,001). To conclude,ZeRAK filter used in this study is effective to decrease water hardness and coliform.
