Abstract

Renewable resources in Indonesia are abundant; however, the community and managers have not been able to utilize them optimally, resulting in a very low trend of renewable energy use in Indonesia. The country still relies on fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum, which are environmentally harmful due to the direct pollution caused by fossil fuel management. This dependency is difficult to change because of inadequate infrastructure and low costs. Therefore, this research aims to identify the factors that influence the use of renewable energy in Indonesia. The data used in this study are secondary data sourced from the World Bank website, covering the time series from 1990 to 2020 in Indonesia. The data, in numerical form, were processed using quantitative methods. The results of the data analysis indicate that the variables of fossil energy consumption, economic growth, and electricity consumption have a positive and significant effect on the use of renewable energy. In contrast, fossil energy consumption does not have a significant effect on the use of renewable energy in Indonesia. It can be concluded that the use of renewable energy can reduce the impact of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from mining, which directly affects the environment.

Abstract

Debt remains a primary source of financing for economic development in developing countries. According to data, there was a sharp economic decline and a significant increase in debt levels among developing countries during the COVID-19 pandemic 2019. This indicates a tendency for governments to rely on debt during the recovery period. Theoretically, debt can have either positive or negative impacts on economic development. This implies that debt can serve as a growth engine or become a developmental burden. Amid this debate, this study aims to identify the impact of debt on economic growth in Southeast Asian developing countries (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia) from 2009 to 2022. Using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method, we find that debt negatively impacts economic growth in both the short and long term. Additionally, another variable, inflation, also negatively affects economic growth in the long term. Therefore, governments must adopt prudent debt management principles and implement strategic policies to ensure that debt is allocated to finance productive sectors.

Abstract

A significant surge in the number of non-communicable disease cases also accompanies the rapid increase in the elderly population in Indonesia. Additionally, elderly individuals have a high risk of experiencing disabilities and losing independence due to non-communicable diseases. If left unaddressed, the dependency burden of the elderly will continue to rise, impacting the country's financial burden in funding healthcare issues. One way to address this issue is through policy interventions related to elderly healthcare services. This study aims to examine the government's efforts through its policies in implementing elderly healthcare services and to assess the adequacy of regulations, particularly in terms of elderly health education and information dissemination, curative efforts for the elderly, and the development of elderly healthcare service institutions. This research is designed as a documentation study, with data collection techniques using documentation. Data analysis is conducted through data reduction, content analysis, and conclusion drawing. The study concludes that regulations regarding elderly health education and information dissemination remain insufficient. Meanwhile, in terms of curative efforts for the elderly and the development of elderly healthcare institutions, the existing regulations are relatively adequate.

Abstract

Poverty is an individual problem in society, where the poor quality of existing resources, minimum wages that do not meet the cost of living, and population growth continue to increase, affecting competitiveness and making it difficult to meet daily needs. The impact of the decline in the number of poor people is the essential growth factor in the selection of regional development strategies and tools, including efforts to address the decline in the number of poor people in Central Java. This study is quantitative, using annual secondary data from 2018-2023 sourced through the website of the Central Java Provincial Statistics Agency and the annual report of the Central Java Provincial BAZNAS. The analysis method used in this study is moderated regression analysis. The results of this study prove that the population variable has a positive insignificant effect on poverty, the minimum wage variable has a positive insignificant impact on poverty, and the human development index variable has a significant adverse effect on poverty. In contrast, the ZIS variable is unable to moderate the population against poverty, ZIS is unable to moderate the minimum wage against poverty, and ZIS is able to moderate the HDI against poverty.

Abstract

This study examines the economic impact of fintech adaptation on sustainability performance in the Indonesian banking sector, with green finance and green innovation as mediating variables. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing secondary data from six Indonesian banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2019 to 2023. Path analysis was applied to evaluate to assess relationships among fintech adaptation, green finance, green innovation, and sustainability performance. The findings reveal that fintech adaptation significantly influences green finance but has a limited impact on green innovation and direct sustainability performance. Additionally, green finance and green innovation do not significantly mediate the relationship between fintech adaptation and sustainability performance. These results highlight the challenges of integrating fintech into sustainable banking initiatives in emerging markets. The study underscores the need for enhanced regulatory frameworks, strategic fintech adoption, and increased collaboration among financial institutions to drive sustainability efforts. Future research should explore additional factors influencing sustainability performance in banking.

Abstract

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) tries to recover the tourism sector after the pandemic by speeding up the development of five super-priority tourism destinations, one of which is Likupang di North Sulawesi. The Governor set a target of 1 million foreign tourists from China. However, this cannot be achieved in one year. This study aims to simulate the effect of an increase in tourists from China on output, gross value added (GVA), and labor absorption in North Sulawesi. Besides that, this study also seeks to identify relationships among production sectors in North Sulawesi. This study employs input-output analysis with a 2016 input-output table. The study identifies four key sectors: energy and waste, transportation and warehousing, industry, and communications. The sector projected to experience the most significant increase in total output, GVA, and employment is the hotel and restaurant sector. Four other sectors are expected to show significant increases in output and GVA: trade, agriculture, transportation and warehousing, and other services. Meanwhile, the three sectors projected to experience the most significant increase in employment are trade, agriculture, and other services.

Abstract

Pujasera Embong Tengah is one of the culinary places that has not implemented the green economy concept because the problems faced are that business actors in Pujasera Embong Tengah feel that environmentally friendly packaging is very complicated, stock availability is still difficult, costs are more expensive, and do not understand how to design packaging, so the packaging used still uses plastic that is not environmentally friendly and less attractive. The purpose of this study is to design paper cups and paper bowls to support the concept of green economy. The method used in the study is descriptive qualitative with a field study approach with sampling using the purposive sampling method. Respondents in the study were sellers and consumers. The image was designed using the AutoCAD application. The results of the study showed that the design of paper cups and paper bowls was easy to communicate, creative, different from competitors, and acceptable to consumers. This study examines the use of paper cups and paper bowls to support the concept of green economy. The findings of this study can provide important information to help the economic resilience of business actors, as well as provide insight for further research development. This study hopes that Pujasera Embong Tengah can change its packaging from plastic to environmentally friendly packaging with an attractive design so that economic resilience is maintained.

Abstract

The reasons for the demise of economic policy as a value-laden normative theory, within the Frisch-Tinbergen-Theil approach, and those for its reappraisal are very important for academic research. They are critically analyzed in this note which discusses some arguments made in the last Nicola Acocella’s fully-fledged book Rediscovering Economic Policy as a Discipline. He defends the status of Economic Policy as a proper normative discipline of Economics aimed to the foundation, coordination and reach of government action claiming that the two vital critiques to the effectiveness of macroeconomic policy actions, i.e. the Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem and the Lucas Critique, may be overcome by a theory of economic policy in a strategic setting. So doing, though, he cuts across several important issues like the formation of economic expectations, the aggegation problem, the Public Choice hypothesis of self-interested policy-making, the necessity of microfoundations of macroeconomics taken for granted, the basic characteristics of the positive method based on empirical observation and analytical consistency, overall the hypotheses on which the economic policy models are based. Well, Acocella’s strategic setting approach is interesting but the two vital critiques and the other problems remain.
