Abstract

Limited renewable energy literacy and inadequate utilization of organic waste remain significant challenges in school-based environmental education. This community service program aimed to enhance renewable energy literacy and practical biomass utilization skills among students and teachers at Al-Amalul Khair Islamic Boarding School, Palembang, Indonesia, through aromatic biobriquette production training. The program employed a community-based learning approach consisting of lectures, technical demonstrations, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. Thirty participants were involved in the activity. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the mean score improving from 45.67 before the training to 95.00 after the training. In addition, participants demonstrated strong engagement during practical activities and expressed willingness to apply aromatic biobriquette technology for sustainable organic waste management. The findings indicate that hands-on training effectively improves renewable energy literacy and technical competencies related to biomass-based energy production.

Abstract

Photography and visual communication skills play a critical role in supporting branding strategies in the digital era, particularly for university students who actively use social media. However, limited understanding of visual marketing techniques often weakens the effectiveness of brand communication. This community engagement activity aimed to improve participants' practical skills in photography-based visual marketing through an international workshop held at Kun Shan University on April 16, 2025. Ten undergraduate business students joined the session, which combined interactive presentations, case studies, group discussions, and smartphone photography practice. Engagement was strong, with 6 of 10 participants (60%) actively raising their hands and answering questions during the question and answer. Unlike conventional photography training, this activity emphasized visual branding for digital media, smartphone-based practice, a cross-cultural setting, and the integration of storytelling into brand identity. Participants showed improved ability to read visual elements and create engaging branded content, supporting the long-term development of students' visual-marketing competencies.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Many older adults are unaware that they have diabetes until they experience complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, or diabetic wounds that are difficult to heal. The Elderly Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) is a community-based health service that functions to maintain, monitor, and improve the health status of older adults at the village or sub-district level. This community service activity aims to increase the capacity and independence of Posyandu elderly cadres in providing education and assistance related to prevention, dietary management, and basic care for older adults with Diabetes Mellitus, thereby improving the quality of life of the elderly and reducing the risk of DM complications in the community. The method of this activity is to provide education and training to elderly cadres on prevention, diet, and care for older adults with DM. The results of this activity showed that knowledge before the education was mostly sufficient (60%), and after the activity, participants' knowledge increased, and the majority (80%) were classified in the good knowledge category.

Abstract

Digital ethics education is increasingly needed as adolescents use social media for communication, entertainment, and learning while also facing risks related to hoaxes, cyberbullying, privacy leakage, and impolite online interaction. This article reports a participatory community service program at MTs Al Furqan aimed at strengthening students’ knowledge and awareness of responsible social media use. The program involved 87 seventh- and eighth-grade students in 2025. The activities consisted of partner needs identification, an interactive seminar, guided discussion, roleplay simulation, and pretest–posttest evaluation. The pretest showed an average score of 42.3%, indicating limited initial understanding, especially in preventive actions against social media risks (13.7%). After the program, the average posttest score increased to 83.7%, with the highest achievements in hoax response (100%), recognizing shareable information (90.8%), and understanding social media risks (89.6%). These findings indicate that participatory digital ethics education can strengthen students’ digital literacy, online safety awareness, and practical readiness to respond to hoaxes, cyberbullying, and privacy risks.

Abstract

Developing a tourism village based on the Community-Based Tourism (CBT) model requires active community participation, positioning the community as the primary actor in the sustainable management of tourism assets. This community service initiative aimed to enhance community capacity and establish a Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), a local institution capable of independently managing Bukek Tourism Village. Implementation methods included disseminating the CBT concept, providing training on institutional management and human resource capacity building, offering guidance on developing work programs, and facilitating the formation of the POKDARWIS organizational structure. Evaluation was conducted through observation, discussions, and a comparison of participants' understanding levels before and after the activities. The results demonstrated an improved community understanding of tourism village management, the successful establishment of POKDARWIS and its organizational structure, and the formulation of an initial work plan to guide the destination's development. The community also showed an increased commitment to collaborative participation in managing tourism assets.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to analyze the financial management practices of The Bos Cafe MSME and provide sustainable financial management assistance to support business continuity. The activity was conducted on May 19, 2026, for one day and involved one MSME partner, namely The Bos Cafe. The method employed was a descriptive qualitative approach through participatory field observations, direct interviews, educational sessions, discussions, and financial management mentoring. The observation results indicated that financial management had been carried out through daily cash recording and the use of a manual cash book. However, several challenges were still identified, including inconsistent transaction recording, limited business capital, and the mixing of personal and business finances. The mentoring activities included education on separating personal and business finances, systematic recording of transactions, preparation of simple financial statements, and business cash flow management. The evaluation results showed that the partner understood the importance of separating personal and business finances, maintaining regular transaction records, managing cash flow, and preparing simple financial statements to support business decision-making.

Abstract

The diversification of family medicinal plant products (TOGA) is an important strategy to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by producing health-related products that can improve public health. In the previous community service program, the team succeeded in increasing health independence among the younger generation through training in the diversification of traditional medicine products. This program aims to improve the sustainability of toga-processed traditional medicine and to analyse the macronutrient content (proximate analysis) and hedonic properties of diversified traditional medicine products. The implementation method is divided into three steps: implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The implementation of the activity yielded three diversified traditional medicine products made from turmeric: turmeric tamarind spice drink, instant turmeric creamer powder, and instant turmeric spice powder. Based on the proximate test results, all three products contain carbohydrates, protein, and fat. The hedonic test results showed that the instant turmeric powder with creamer was the most popular, with an average score of 4.26 across taste, aroma, colour, texture, sensation, aftertaste, and flavour strength. The mentoring activities to diversify turmeric-based herbal products are recommended for the younger generation.

Abstract

Jambidan Village, Banguntapan Subdistrict, Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), has potential for MSMEs and freshwater fish farming. Jambidan Village has the potential to become a tourist village developed by its community, rather than by a single business. The problems in the tourism village industry are the limited reach of product promotions, promotional packaging, and the use of promotional tools that can still be optimised. The purpose of this community service activity is to expand users' knowledge and skills in using WhatsApp Business as a business platform, which functions not only as a messaging application but also as a marketing tool to support promotional activities and increase sales. The results of this activity survey indicate an increase in knowledge and mastery in operating WhatsApp Business among MSMEs in Jambidan Village. Participants were also equipped with knowledge of basic product photography techniques and product packaging design to support the use of WhatsApp Business. The program for utilising digital media for promotional purposes requires continuity from its users. In addition, ongoing mentoring from practitioners and academics in digital marketing communications is needed.
