Abstract

The International Convention on Training. Certification and Watchkeeping Standards for Seafarers 1978 (STCW1978), as amended in 1995 and last amended in 2010 the Manila Amendment 2010was intended to implement all changes agreed upon at STCW-95 by incorporating new technology. The time given by IMO to implement the 2010 STCW amendment convention to all its members in implementing changes is 5 years ending on January 1, 2017. This affects the institutions that provide education and training are required to be able to fulfill all changes and requirements. Shipping schools in Indonesia are required to apply the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 70 of 2013 concerning Education and Training, Certification and the Guarding Service of Seafarers. The research method used is Indepth Interview or in-depth interviews with the population and samples are schools and shipping academies in the city of Semarang. Interviews were used to explore data related to the implementation of the 2010 STCWamendment rules in the schools concerned. The research data obtained are in the form of interviews written. The results of the interviews were then analyzed by understanding the relationship between the questions with each other by comparing the technical rules for the implementation of education and training for seafarers. The results of the study on the evaluation of the implementation of the 2010 amendment STCWas outlined in reference to the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 70of 2013 obtained several conclusions. Shipping schools have difficulty meeting facilities including simulators. The biggest difficulty faced is funding because the price of simulators is quite expensive and the instructors are competent with seafarers. The role of the government is still very lacking in providing support and assistance in meeting the requirements that must exist for the smooth process of education.

Abstract

Awareness of sailing safety ls vital and must be prioritized. Various incidents of ship accidents, starting from burning ships and sinking became a separate evaluation material for Indonesia which declared it to be the world's maritime axis. The problem of the lack of safety equipment available on ships are found in cases of passenger ship accidents in Indonesia. This is also found in fishing vessels belonging to groups and individuals. The main reason stated by the ship owner is that the procurement of safety equipments requires no small amount of funds, and priority needs of each of the different safety equipments so that not all equipment need to be fulfilled, In addition, the low level of education and skills also affects safety awareness. The type of research used is Explanatory Research which aims to analyze whether or not the influence of the amount of fishermen's income on sailing safety awareness is mediated by education level. The number of research samples is 59 respondents who are fishermen on the North Coast of Java (Semarang, Demak, and Kendal). The research data was obtained through filling out questionnaires using a Likert scale with a range of 5. In addition, it was also strengthened by follow-up interviews to support the results of research data processing. From the results of the research data obtained results: (1) the amount of income did not affect the level of education, (2) the amount of income did not affect sailing safety awareness. (3) the level of education had a positive effect on sailing safety awareness and (4) the level of education was not mediates the effect of the amount of income on sailing safety awareness.

Abstract

Semarang Growth Centre (SGC) merupakan salah satu lembaga pengembangan pendidikan tinggi milik Pemerintah Republik Indonesia di bawah Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi yang berdiri sejak tahun 1993. Pada perkembangannya di tahun 2012 SGC diusulkan berubah menjadi Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia (Polimarin). Perubahan organisasi dalam penelitian ini berdampak pada manajemen organisasi, faktor sosial, metode, aspek manusia, perilaku kerja, minat, pengalaman, prestasi kerja, tanggung jawab dan motivasi. Hasil penelitian yang perlu diperhatikan adalah faktor manajemen organisasi yang memiliki nilai persepsi terendah dari anggota organisasi dengan prosentase mendekati 40%. Terjadinya penilaian negatif tersebut disebabkan perlunya proses penyesuaian antara pelaksanaan di lapangan dengan aturan baku dari pemerintah sebagai lembaga baru. Selain itu belum dilaksanakannya prosedur manajemen secara konsisten dan kurangnya koordinasi antar bagian dalam pelaksanaan beberapa pekerjaan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan deskriptif analisis. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner, wawancara dan studi pustaka. Sampel penelitian adalah 30 orang karyawan yang bekerja di Polimarin sejak masih bernama SGC. Analisa data penelitian dilakukan dengan menjabarkan hasil dalam 41 tabel tunggal, sehingga memperoleh simpulan penelitian. Hasil wawancara dan studi pustaka digunakan untuk memperkuat hasil analisa data kuesioner.

Abstract

This study discusses the design of a Blow Off Valve (BOV) valve in a turbocharger system on a diesel engine on board, BOV is used to release the air pressure contained in the scavenge air chamber when it experiences an increase in pressure due to the reduced frequency of opening the air duct that enters cylinder chamber. The purpose of this study is to analyze the selection of blow off valve designs that are in accordance with the need to reduce surge phenomena on diesel engines of ships using turbocharge and to analyze the quality/ performance results of the blow off valve through Solidwork software. The air pressure will still put pressure to get out of the system. This will cause the pressure in the system to increase and this air pressure will flow back to the turbine and will cause damage to the turbocharge component. This phenomenon is called turbocharge surging. So, air flow is very important to ensure that no air pressure flows back into the turbocharge. The selection of valves in accordance with the design techniques of several alternative choices is very decisive. Numerical calculations and spring performance analysis of a selected valve are carried out using solidwork software.

Abstract

The role of the Bridge Ship Simulator at State Maritime Polytechnic of Indonesia has provided with navigation competences to enhancement for maritime students and how the competences of graduates maritime students can improve the competitiveness in the Indonesian maritime industry. This study aims to find out "How Bridge Simulator has provided Navigation Science competence improvement for maritime students and how the competence of maritime graduates can improve the competitiveness of the Indonesian maritime industry. The type of research in this study is an analytical description. The data sources is all graduates of Nautika study program in Polytechnic of Maritime Affairs of Indoneisa who already have certificate of Bridge Simulator. Data collection techniques are observation and interviews. Data analysis technique is qualitative analysis. There are three (3) of main parties studied in this study. The instructor as first party is related to the procurement of modules, schedule of training, communication in English with trainees, differences background of understanding of each participant, availability of time for training, different interpretations of IMO Model Course 1.22, as well as availability of number of instructors. The second party is the training participant, lack of introductory explanations towards training, scheduling, differences in participants' abilities, English language skills, and the seriousness of the trainees. The last party is stakeholder, the standard competency and current curriculum are not synchronized, graduates competence is still questionable, limited number of certified technicians, The industry need the graduduates ability to operate bridge simulators according to the type of fleet they have and difficulties because they have to find graduates that meet the desired standards. Recommendations made by the researchers are: procurement of modules and scheduling of quality and timely training, equalization of IMO Model Course 1.22 interpretation through Training for Trainers (TOT), pre-training debriefing of instructors and participants, better quality practical post tests to ensure competence of trainees.

Abstract

This research discusses the failure of the diesel engine crankshaft of four stroke 6 cylinder, which is used in diesel generators of marine vessels. A correct analysis of crankshaft conditions is essential to prevent crankshaft fracture failures and cracks. Crankshaft deformed due to misalignment of the main journaling bearings. The purpose of this research is to determine the safe limit of the feasibility of a crankshaft to the damage that occurs on the surface of the crank pin journaling and steps to prevent the occurrence of failure on the crankshaft. This article presents the results of crankshaft failure analysis by material testing method through metallurgical test and hardness test. The test material taken was part of the crank pin journaling on cylinder number 3 which experienced by worn-out abnormality, while the test material from the crank pin section of the journal of cylinder number 5 was as a comparison with the normal surface condition. The result of chemical composition test of crankshaft is included in AISI 4140 classification. While the hardness value on crank pin surface of journal of cylinder number 3 is below the predetermined hardness value. Micro structure on cylinder no. 3 has an irregular spherical grain shape and the phase is pearlit (ferrit and cementit) in which the pearlit has a soft and also a hard nature.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the extent of the effect of the echosounder function on ship movements in narrow and shallow waters. In achieving these objectives, research is carried out using the type of analytical description through the drawing of research objects to be analyzed and the development model of the object of research is sought. The sample taken in this study is a passenger ship which is at the Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang. Determination of the sample by means of purposive random sampling, namely researchers have determined directly the object of research, both for ships and for respondents. In the process of collecting data, researchers use several ways to obtain data and information through interviews and questionnaires (questionnaires). The results of the study showed that the echo sounder function affected ship movements in narrow and shallow waters in a significantly positive manner. Positive influence means that the better the echo sounder function that is used will provide good ship motion, especially in narrow and shallow waters. Echo sounders affect ship movement by 49.8%, while the remaining 50.2% is explained by other factors. Another factor in question is the facilities provided by PT. PELNI and its own human resources.

Abstract

The initial thinking that underlies this research is that the most recent data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) shows that Indonesia has only around 1.65 percent of entrepreneurs of a total population of 252 million. Indonesia has enormous potential and opportunities to obtain economic resources from maritime. The maritime entrepreneurship program is not only to open up new hopes for the society but also as an effort to encourage private sector to play a role in building Indonesia's maritime affairs. The spirit of entrepreneurship must be cultivated in student's mind as a reference for the success of universities in building intelligent people. The purpose of this article is to explore and to try for gaining the insight about the pattern of maritime education in shaping the entrepreneurial spirit of students conducted at Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia. Problems formulated: 1) What is the description of the spirit of entrepreneurship possessed by Polimarin students, 2) How is the design of an entrepreneurship education program involving internal and external parties in order to create a generation of educated entrepreneurship in Polimarin. The method used in this research is in-depth interviews with alumni as an entrepreneur, business simulations and focused group discussions with active students, as well as literature studies by reviewing books and journals. The results of the discussion stated that: The tone of Polimarin student entrepreneurship education is carried out through practical learning with experiential based learning methods. The growth of entrepreneurial spirit through practical learning by conducting business practices include: practical activities in setting up small-scale bazaars, price research practices in the market, creating brand (brand), practice simulation of business stages such as sevron turnover by means of student sewing services because students live in dormitories, the practice of selling merchandise, the practice of producing goods with existing natural resources, the practice of optimizing existing capital for production, seeking technology to make production more efficient.

Abstract

Sistem manajemen perawatan yang dilakukan secara terencana dan berkala, memperpanjang usia pakai suatu kapal sehingga dapat menambah produktivitas kapal. Hal yang berkaitan dengan perawatan pada semua komponen yang terdapat di suatu kapal, juga telah diatur dalan International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) dimana diutamakan pengoperasian kapal secara aman. Penelitian kuantitatif yang berjudul “Pengaruh Sistem Manajemen Perawatan terhadap Kelancaran Operasional pada Kapal MV Meratus Semarang” ini dilakukan di Semarang dengan responden sejumlah 30 orang yaitu crew kapal MV.Meratus Semarang. Metode pengambilan data melalui penyebaran kuesioner dan analisa datanya yaitu analisis koefisien korelasi. Hipotesa penelitiannya adalah ada hubungan positif antara manajemen perawatan kapal terhadap kelancaran operasional pada Kapal MV. Meratus. Hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan bahwa variabel manajemen perawatan kapal memiliki signifikansi 0,897dengan nilai signifikansi positif dan mendekati 1 maka dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa variabel manajemen perawatan memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kelancaran operasional kapal. Rekomendasi yang disampaikan adalah bahwa dalam melaksanakan perawatan haruslah dilaksanakan sesuai dengan jam kerja dari buku petunjuk perawatan di atas kapal secara teratur dan terus menerus dan dapat menghasilkan kinerja yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Today, the lives of our teenagers are susceptible to aggressive behavior, for example throwing harsh words such as berating, insulting, fighting each other, hitting, fighting, brawls to murder for a small problem. The research aim is want to know whether there was any influence of the social environment on the aggressive behavior of adolescents. The type of research used in this study is explanatory research. Data collection method was observation and interviews. Analysis of the data used is product moment correlation analysis to test the social environment relationship to social behavior. Product moment correlation analysis show that: respondents regarding the quality of the social environment are included in good category, with an average rating of 5.21; respondents regarding the quality of adolescent's aggressive behavior are included in low category with an average value of 5.38; and while regression analysis for social environment variables are +0.718.
