Abstract

The character of Jati Wesi in theinovel Aroma Karsa has a character thattcanbbeeuseddas a good roleemodel forrreaders, including theeyounger generation. The representation of the character of Jati Wesi contains several values of character education. The purpose of this article isstoodescribe (1) theeintrinsic elements offthe Aroma Karsa novel, (2) the character educationivalues represented by the character Jati Wesi in Dee Lestari's Aroma Karsa novel, and (3) the utilization of the representation of the value of Jati Wesi character education in learning Indonesian. The research methodiused is a qualitative descriptive method. The source of data in this study is the novel Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari in the form of text and quotes in the novel document. The results of the research found are (a) there are intrinsic elements of Dee Lestari's Aroma Karsa novel including themes, plot, characterizations, setting, point of view, and mandate, (b) there are four values of character education that represent the character of Jati Wesi. Theivalues of character education are hard work, creative, independent, and curiosity, and (c) the representation of the values of characterieducation can be used for learning Indonesian.Keywords: representation, character education, Indonesian language

Abstract

Doraemon Stand by Me 1 & 2 film. Japan and this film using animated images make researchers want to analyze and examine strategies for conveying verbal and nonverbal meanings with the variety of children's languages found in the study. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis techniques. The data sources in this study are the first and second Doraemon Stand by Me films. The research data used are thirty-nine data. The results of the study found that the variety of children's languages used in the film Doraemon Stand by Me 1 & 2 were shown using 10 suffixes, namely Yo, Wa, Ne, Na, Zo, Ya, Mon, Kke, I, No in the children's language variety in Indonesia. in Japanese based on the theory from Takahashi Tarou. Verbal and nonverbal meanings in films are conveyed using three strategies, namely aspects of speech and images, aspects of images and sound effects, and aspects of images and writing. Of these three strategies, the speech and image aspects were found, then the image and sound effects aspects were found, and the image and writing aspects were the least found. The strategy of conveying meaning is easier to understand and can have a psychological impact on the audience such as sad, happy, tense, and others to make the audience entertained. Keywords: Doraemon Stand by Me, Variety of Languages, Verbal Meaning, and Nonverbal Meaning

Abstract

Language variations can occur not only due to speakers of various languages, but also caused by diverse social interactions and covers a very wide environment. Universitas Brawijaya is one of the universities located in the city of Malang that has students with various cultural backgrounds. This study aims to examine what are the forms of language variations that occur in overseas students from Boyolali, Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Universitas Brawijaya in the process of social interaction. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with case study analysis on a sample. The sample in this study is Syaharani Savia who is an overseas student of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Universitas Brawijaya who comes from Boyolali. The results of this study are that there are several language variations that occur in the object of research, including Javanese dialect of Surakarta, Javanese dialect of Malang, English, slang, and Indonesian. The factor of the occurrence of language variations in the object of research is caused by the difference in the use of dialects in the Universitas Brawijaya environment with the environment of origin of the object of research and the situation of kinship between speakers.Keywords: sociolinguistics, language variation, nomadic students

Abstract

Bugis language is one of the regional languages in Indonesia, especially in South Sulawesi. Along with the development of the era of globalization which is increasing rapidly making language also experience development, thus affecting the style of language. Language style consists of several kinds, one of which is sarcasm. This study aims to describe the form, meaning, and factors that influence the occurrence of sarcasm in Bugis language. The type of research used is qualitative. Sources of data were obtained from oral data, Bugis-Indonesian dictionaries, books, and relevant previous articles. Data collection was carried out using editing techniques (collecting and checking data), organizing (recording and presenting facts), and founding (analyzing data findings), while data analysis was carried out using Miles and Huberman's data analysis techniques, namely data reduction, data display, and withdrawal. conclusion. This study found the results that the 21 data that had been obtained and analyzed by researchers contained a form of expression of Bugis language sarcasm that was often used as a form of designation sarcasm. Then, the factor that most often influences is the joke factor because it is to liven up the atmosphere.Keywords: Expression, Sarcasm, Bugis Language

Abstract

Javanese people are people who still maintain rituals that are still related to natural events, or disasters and still carried out in daily life. One of the traditions carried out in Java, namely: Tedhak Sinten, This ceremony is a birth cycle,and  reached the age of seven eight, which is 7x35 days as the ceremony,to  introduce the child for the first time multiplying the land or the earth. This research uses qualitative data research that is used in the form of primary data and secondary data. Preliminary data were obtained from interviews and observations, documentation. In the tedhak sinten procession, secondary data were obtained from books that discussed the tedhak sinten tradition and used the theory of symbolic interaction. The results of this study prove that the Tedhak Sinten procession is diverse, including: babies who ride seven jadah, babies are put in a chicken cage and choose goods, babies are bathed in setaman water and baby's parents spread coins to small children and interactions with the Symbolic Interaction theory that The meaning of tedhak sinten is made through a process of communication and modification in certain meaningful symbols to produce mutual agreement and can be known and accepted by the community.Keywords: Symbolic meaning, Tedhak sinten tradition,meaning of society,Traditions ceremonies

Abstract

The character that must be possessed by graduates, especially prospective educators, is complex. Moreover, graduates as prospective educators must not only have the graduate character as predetermined, but also transfer these characters to their students in the future. Therefore, a strategy is needed that makes it easier for students/learners as prospective educators to have the expected character. This study describes character strengthening through speaking learning with using Language Learning Strategies (LLS). This study uses the method of literature study. Character strengthening can be carried out in each LLS stage according to the selected SBB. In other words, strengthening character according to the goals and functions of education, 21st Century HR, Industrial Revolution 4.0, Social Revolution 5.0, and even Merdeka Learning-Independence Campus can be carried out in an integrated manner in speaking learning with using LLS. Keywords: character, speaking learning, Language Learning Strategies

Abstract

As time goes by, fiction has become a medium that satisfies people’s wishes. This phenomenon happens because the purpose of popular fiction is to fulfill people's demands of plot lines. Therefore, the storyline or narrative of the story is a crucial point in discussing popular fiction. Genre becomes the key point in discussing the formulation of a story. This formulation is based on convention and one of the famous formulations is the genre of detective. One of the famous works of detectives is Sherlock Holmes. Holmes has created his own world and has produced so many adaptations. One of the adaptations that hooked people's attention is a spin-off work of Sherlock Holmes, Enola Holmes. Enola Holmes is a novel series written by Springer that got recognition from many people because she wrote a story on the line of Sherlock Holmes’s canonical story. Due to the fame, this series got adapted into film as Jack Thorne rewrote the story based on the original. However, Enola—written by Springer and Thorne—represents a contra point in the formulation. In order to discover and prove the formulation, this study focuses on using genre critcisim focusing on the formulation of feminist in the objects. Furthermore, this study also uses genre theories by Cawelti and Gelder in conducting the discussion. This research proves that Enola is a detective story by following the classical detective formula following the original formulation by Doyle on Sherlock. The problem of contra point is represented in the invention or innovation of the detective genre as it is taking women as the detective and main villain and a mystery around women characters.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomena of code switching and code mixing that occur in speech events of interactions between teachers and students in the Bashrah class. The Bashrah class is one of the class names at the Al-Azhar Arabic language course in Pare Kediri. The main problem in this study is the form of code switching and code mixing that occurs in the speech interaction between teachers and students in their learning. This research includes the type of qualitative descriptive research. The subject of this study is the speech phenomenon that occurs in the interaction of teachers and students in the Bashrah class at the Al-Azhar Pare Kediri course institution. The object of this research is speech that contains code-switching and code-mixing in teacher and student interactions in the Bashrah class. The data was obtained using participant observation, interviews techniques and field notes. Data analysis wascarried out by reducing data, then recording sentences that fall into the category of code switching and code mixing. The limitations in this study are time constraints that make this research less than optimal. Abstract

There were several language terms used by Instagram users for exacerbating the lexical units meaning, leading to reader negative impressions. This research was focused on Instagram social media data that can be accessed as friends and in general. This research was different from previous research because most focus on one Instagram account. This research has two main objectives. First, to find out the form of dysfemia in the Instagram comment column. Second, to find out the value of dysfemia contained in the comments. This research type was qualitative with the method of content analysis. For this purpose, data was collected from all forms of netizen interactions, including comments on words, phrases and expressions. Meanwhile, the source of the research data was the conversations of Instagram users. The research instrument used was the researcher himself and a number of supporting equipment including cell phones and stationery (books and pens) were also used. Data was collected through reading and recording techniques. Then the collected data was analyzed through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that the forms of dysphemia in the comments of Instagram users tend towards dyspnea in the form of words, phrases and expressions. Meanwhile, the value content of taste was scary, scary, disgusting, and strengthening. Future studies should compare dyspnea with euphemia.Keywords: Form, dyspnea, Instagram, netizen, sense value

Abstract

The development of the oceans is now starting to be threatened due to climate change and ecosystem imbalances that occur in nature. It is important for us as the nation's successors to preserve and cultivate the surrounding environmental ecosystem for a better environment. This study aims to examine the wisdom of the sea through the behavior and thoughts of the characters in the short story “O” by Benny Arnas using a descriptive qualitative method. The research data source comes from kompas.id with a short story entitled "O" by Benny Arnas in 2022. The analysis technique is based on the theory of ecocriticism. The analysis is carried out by reading the short stories repeatedly to find sentences that contain ecological wisdom. The results of the research found ideas in uncovering the phenomenon of the marine coastal environment, namely planting fruits and vegetables in the coastal areas of the sea. The short story entitled "O" by Beny Arnas describes the concern for the health of the people of the Karimata sea coast. Changes in awareness of the marine environment need attention for people who are less willing to take risks. With figure O the research found an overview of ideas in uncovering marine environmental phenomena, namely planting fruits and vegetables in seacoast areas. Suggestions in this paper, readers are expected to be wiser in treating the natural environment around them.Keywords: Ecocriticism, Short Stories, Marine Environment
