AKSARA: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra (Journal of Linguistics and Literature) is a biannual journal (April and October) published by the Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Lampung. The journal aims to promote the development of links between research in linguistics, applied linguistics, arts, as well as literature and its application in professional and educational settings. Abstract

The problem’s discussion of this research is comparing the application of Problem Based Learning Model (PBL) with conventional teaching in learning achievement of French reading skill for students of first semester students of French education program of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Lampung University in academic year 2015/2016. The purpose of this research is to know or describe (1) level in reading ability of French, (2) difference of median score of French reading skill’s achievement of the students who are taught by problem based learning with conventional teaching. The method of this research is used an experimental method. By knowing the hypothesis, the researcher uses t-test formula. To get the data of French reading skill, the researcher is used a test measurement. The result of the data analysis is as follow: 1) the population comes from the students of the first semester. Sampling technique will be used lottery technique, from the population of normal distribution and has homogeneous variety, 2) proposed hypothesis “Median achievement score of French reading skill of the students who are taught by problem based learning model is higher than median achievement score of French reading skill achievement of students who are taught by conventional teaching”, 3) level of reading skill of French student’s achievement in French education program of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Lampung University in academic year 2015/2016 is considered to be good, with a median score 75 and 4) the result of this research with the population of Fench education program of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education , first semester in academic year 2015/2016. The hypothesis is accepted if sign more than α. In this case, the significance level is 0.05, meaning only 5% are error and 95% correct. Keywords : problem based learning, French reading skill.

Abstract

Menulis merupakan kegiatan yang membutuhkan kerja sama antara seluruh indra dan pikiran untuk menghasilkan informasi yang benar. Khusus dalam menulis berita, terdapat kaidah-kaidah yang harus dipatuhi agar tulisan yang dibuat memiliki nilai berita, di antaranya, unsur 5W + 1H. Permasalahan penelitian ini adalah siswa belum mampu menulis teks berita karena kurangnya sumber belajar yang memadai. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan bahan ajar berupa modul menulis teks berita yang berbasis metode karyawisata. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan model pengembangan Borg Gall yang mencakup tiga langkah, yaitu (1) penelitian pendahuluan, (2) pengembangan dan validasi, dan (3) uji coba dan revisi. Penelitian ini melibatkan sejumlah siswa dan guru yang berasal dari tiga Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat, Provinsi Lampung. Dengan modul hasil pengembangan yang telah divalidasi oleh ahli materi, ahli media, dan praktisi, peneliti melakukan uji coba. Selain itu, dengan desain one group pretest posttest peneliti mengolah data perbedaan nilai siswa sebelum dan setelah penggunaan modul pembelajaran menulis teks berita hasil pengembangan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dikembangkan dapat menjawab tantangan belajar siswa dalam mengembangkan keterampilan menulis teks berita. Dengan penerapan metode karyawisata, siswa dapat mengelaborasi hasil observasi dengan pancaindra dan pikiran mereka untuk menulis teks berita.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were aimed at finding out the responses the students had during the implementation of Jigsaw technique and Student Team Achievement Division (STAD). This research was done through a qualitative design. The population of this research was the second grade students at SMPN 1 Abung Surakarta. The result showed that there were some obstacles found during the implementation of the Jigsaw and STAD Technique as follows: (1) limited vocabulary knowledge; (2) difficulty level of the text (readability); (3) noisy class situation; (4) no students background knowledge; (5) hesitancy to express opinions; (6) class dominated by the smart students. Abstract

Direct utterance is usually used in daily conversation. This research is aimed at (1) identifying the mode of the direct sentences on short story entitled the Enchanted Fish, (2) describing the purposes of the direct utterances in short story entitled the Enchanted Fish. The object used to be analyzed are direct utterances of short story the Enchanted Fish. In collecting the data, the writer uses observation method by selecting the direct utterances which can be found. Having analyzed the data, the writer found that (1) the mode of direct sentences are divided into three; declarative sentence, interrogative sentences and imperative sentences; (2) related to the purpose of utterances, the writer finds that the purposes of utterances depends on the locution, illocution, and perlocution. Related to maxims, the writer found that there is violation on relevance based on unequal status of interlocutors (3). Different culture has different perceptions and interpretations of appropriateness and politeness.Key words: direct utterance, locution, illocution, perlocution

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tindak tutur yang terdapat dalam teks kepewaraan. Tindak tutur ini sangat khas mengingat tujuan yang ingin dicapai oleh teks berbeda dengan teks lainnya. Penelitian ini berjenis kualitatif deskriptif dalam linguistik. Data berwujud tuturan pewara. Data diambil dari teks pewara dalam pelatihan kepewaraan di Perum. Graha Jati Indah, Jati, Jaten, Karanganyar, Jawa Tengah. Data diambil dengan metode simak, teknik rekam, dan teknik catat. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode padan pragmatis. Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the constraints of teaching speaking using TBLT on students speaking achievement at the first grade students of SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung. This was a qualitative research. The subjects were 29 students of the first grade of SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Observation and interview were used as the research instruments. The result of the research showed that the contraints of teaching speaking using TBLT were the role of teacher in giving instructions, the role of task itself, and students background knowledge especially on language forms and vocabularies. Abstract

Students will make an error in the process of acquiring a foreign language. Errors made by students in the process of learning need to be analyzed carefully so that it can help the learning process. This study aims to analyze the surface structure errors made by undergraduate students. The method used is a qualitative method which took a sample of 30 undergraduate students' writings which were writing assignments for English subject. The data were analyzed by looking at the taxonomy of the surface structure in 4 classifications, namely addition, omission, misformation, and misordering. The results of this study found that the most errors were misformation as much as 53%, followed by omissions as much as 23%, additions as much as 17% and misordering being the least errors found with a total of 7%. Misformation errors that often occurred in this study were in the tenses category where the use of morphemes was not in accordance with the rules of English grammar. The results show common errors made by undergraduate students and are expected to be a benchmark for learning outcomes. In addition, it can also show what indicators of English learning should be improved so that students no longer make repeated errors.

Abstract

Pengembangan karakter sangat penting dilakukan oleh perguruan tinggi dan stakeholders-nya untuk menjadi pijakan dalam penyelenggaraan pendidikan karakter di perguruan tinggi. Tumbuh dan berkembangnya karakter yang baik akan mendorong peserta didik tumbuh dengan kapasitas dan komitmen untuk melakukan berbagai hal yang terbaik dan melakukan segalanya dengan benar dan memiliki tujuan hidup. Demikian juga dengan berbahasa, seseorang yang memiliki kemampuan berbahasa yang baik, cenderung akan lebih mudah dalam berkomunikasi dan menyelesaikan pendidikannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai karakter dan berbahasa mahasiswa FKIP Unila yang menempuh mata kuliah MKU Bahasa Indonesia pada semester Genap 2015/2016. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kulitatif dengan jumlah sampel 41 mahasiswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai karakter dan berbahasa mahasiswa FKIP Unila tergolong lebih baik dengan skor rata-rata 77. Dengan demikian, secara umum mahasiswa FKIP Unila yang sedang mengambil matakuliah MKU Bahasa Indonesia telah menerapkan nilai-nilai karakter dan berbahasa dalam kehidupannya sehari-hari dengan baik, walaupun masih ada karakter beberapa mahasiswa yang masih perlu ditingkatkan.Kata Kunci: Nilai Karakter, Berbahasa, MKU Bahasa Indonesia

Abstract

Short story is a literary work that serves either to assist for entertaining or to give life values of the story itself. Besides, it is known as a prose work due to having a short-term story. The two short stories entitled “Jendela Rara'' and “Rumah Tanpa Jendela”, written by Asma Nadia, attracted the author's attention to conduct recent study towards those works. They have been adapted from short story to movie, hence, readers can obtain a structural comparison, especially intrinsic values and life values that are contained in the stories. The recent study was designed by using descriptive qualitative with structural approach to describe intrinsic elements that form the literary work. The research data was in quotation form (word, phrase, and sentence) which related to the problems of “Jendela Rara'' short story. The data collected were from document analysis technique. The data analyzed by using a flow technique model which consisted of three elements such as, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion verification. The data result formed as a structural analysis while experiencing a transformation from a short story entitled “Jendela Rara” to a movie entitled “Rumah Tanpa Jendela” by Asma Nadia.Keywords: Short story, structural, transformation, Asma Nadia.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to analyze critically the quality of test items used in SMP and SMA (mid semester, final semester, and National Examination Practice) in terms of reliability as a whole, level of difficulty, discriminating power, the quality of answer keys and distractors. The methods used to analyze the test items are item analysis (ITEMAN), two types of descriptive statistics for analyzing test items and another for analyzing the options. The findings of the research are very far from what is believed, that is, the quality of majority of test items as well as key answers and distractors are unsatisfactory.
