AKSARA: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra (Journal of Linguistics and Literature) is a biannual journal (April and October) published by the Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Lampung. It addresses a wide range of different fields in linguistics, applied linguistics, arts, and literature. The journal aims to promote the development of links between research in linguistics, applied linguistics, arts, as well as literature and its application in professional and educational settings. Abstract

This study aimed at implementing self-reflection cards (SRCs) in learning English tenses and also explaining students’ perceptions of the use of SRCs in understanding English tenses.A qualitative design was carried out to conduct the study. It focused on interpreting and understanding students’ perception on learning English tenses. The context of study was two classes who were taking English grammar and structure, in particular for the subject matter of English tenses. English tenses were explained orally in the class before students used SRCs to improve their understanding of using English tenses. Data were collected by distributing the questionnaire to the students who participated in two classes with total number of 57 students.The data were classified based on the repetitive and common forms found to assign criteria to the most important aspects related to the objectives of the study. Results indicated that the majority of students participating in the SRCs gamesagreed to all statements in the distributed questionnaire. However, only small number of students responded to their disagreement or neutrality. The majority of positive responses from students are considered as the indicator that the use of SRCs in learning English tenses was successfully implemented in class.

Abstract

Local wisdom is a value that is a role model for the people of Lampung. These values are used as guidelines and a way of life for the people of Lampung. In addition, values are also things that must be pursued in order to have a better life. Therefore, cultural experts place the highest cultural value. The values of local wisdom in the people of Lampung are called piil pesenggiri which consists of meeting nyimah, nengah nyappur, sakai sambaian, and nickname adek. These values are implied in all aspects of life, including the popular Lampung songs. This article aims to describe the local wisdom values of the Lampung area in popular Lampung songs. Abstract

This study talks about of Javanese spells which is still believed by the people of Pager Rejo Village, District of Mojokerto, East Java. This study aims to reveal the meaning and the function of the spell named Aji Seduluran which is still believed by those people. This study uses qualitative research method with two theories, the theory of Alan Dundes is used as the reference for the function of the spell, and the theory of Roland Barthes is used as the reference for the meaning of the spell. Some aspects that will be studied are used to reveal the function and the meaning of Aji Seduluranspell based on the tradition of the people of Pager Rejo Village. The data that have been collected are the spell and the pronunciation to the related people, and some explanations of the people about the origin and the function of the spell for the related people. The data source used in this study is the spell which is believed by the people of the Pager Rejo Village. Abstract

This article presents the individual differences in learning and acquiring a second language. Some learners are successful in learning foreign language quickly while others feel frustrated. Gradman and Hanania (1991) state that there are 22 kinds of individual differences in learning foreign languages. This paper discusses five factors of individual differences. Each factor is expected to provide contribution in learning a second language. Furthermore, individual difference variables are expected to provide guidance to teachers to teach the second language effectively and efficiently.Key words: individual, differences, language acquisition

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan  persepsi mahasiswa  tentang tradisi pola makan orang Prancis pada masa lalu dan perubahan  tradisi pola makan orang Prancis dewasa ini ( studi kasus pada mata kuliah civilization Francaise).Metodeyang digunakan adalah metode deskriftif kualitatif,  data dikumpulkan dari hasil kuosioner dan wawancara pada 27 mahasiswaHasil dan pembahasan diperoleh  skor keseluruhan  adalah 2907 point, dengan skor terendah 96 point dan skor tertinggi 117 point. Sedangkan rata rata skor yang diperoleh adalah 76,90.  Perolehan nilai terendah berada pada nilai 71,11  sebanyak dua orang dan perolehan nilai tertinggi pada nilai   86,66 sebanyak dua orang Tidak ada mahasiswa yang mendapatkan nilai di bawah 7,00 Kesimpulan(1)Mahasiswa sebagian besar berpendapat bahwa   tradisi pola makan tradisional   orang Prancis  pada masa lalu  itu sehat karena bergizi seimbang, mengandung vitamin,serat, karbohidrat, protein, mineral. Disisi lain tradisi pola makan tradisional tersebut turut melestarikan warisan leluhur yang tercermin dalam gastronomi Prancis yang kaya akan  masakan khas daerah ( kuliner) , (2) Mahasiswa sebagian besar berpendapat  dan yakin (positif tanpa diragukan lagi) bahwa   telah terjadi   perubahan  tradisi pola makan orang Prancis dewasa ini,  dari  pola makan tradisional secara table manner menuju ke pola makan cepat saji  (fast food/ junk food). Hal itu ditunjukkan dengan skor rata rata perolehan hasil dari kuesioner sebesar  76,90 %  dari mahasiswa positif berasumsi bahwa telah terjadi  perubahan  pola makan secara tradisional  yang menggunakan  table manner  dan digantikan dengan pola makan fast food / junk food karena anak muda dan para pekerja  ingin lebih efisien waktu, simpel, enak , cepat saji, bergengsi  dan lebih murah harganya, walaupun sebenarnya fast food/ junk food tidak baik  untuk kesehatan.Kata Kunci: Persepsi, Pola Makan, Orang Prancis

Abstract

The society of Malay Jambi has an oral tradition in the form of seloko which can be found in the marriage proposal event. Nowadays, the existence of seloko in the midst of the globalization era begins to be threatened and rarely found. This research is one of the way to document and preserve seloko so that it can be inherited to the next generation. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The type of research conducted was the research of speech act proposed by (Searle, 1979). This research aims to describe the type and the function of speech act. The data in this research was in the form of utterances that had been transcribed. The source of data was obtained from the marriage proposal event that occurred in the city of Jambi, the result indicates that there are four types of speech act used in the marriage proposal event. First, the directive speech act with the function of requesting and suggesting. Second, the commissive speech act with the function of giving promise. Third, the expressive speech act with an apology function. Fourth, the representative speech act with the function of the disclosure statement of the information. Seloko on the marriage proposal event is absolutely very useful and important for the both families since it can be used as the foundation and consideration before marriage. dx.doi.org/10.23960/aksara/v21i2.pp156-168

Abstract

The objectives of the research were aimed at finding out the responses the students had during the implementation of Jigsaw technique and Student Team Achievement Division (STAD). This research was done through a qualitative design. The population of this research was the second grade students at SMPN 1 Abung Surakarta. The result showed that there were some obstacles found during the implementation of the Jigsaw and STAD Technique as follows: (1) limited vocabulary knowledge; (2) difficulty level of the text (readability); (3) noisy class situation; (4) no students background knowledge; (5) hesitancy to express opinions; (6) class dominated by the smart students. Abstract

Kesantunan merupakan salah satu aspek yang perlu diperhatikan dalam berkomunikasi, termasuk interaksi antara guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk kesantuan imperative oleh guru terhadap siswa dalam interaksi kelas. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian pragmatik. Data penelitian ini berupa tuturan guru Bahasa Indonesia MA Al-Irtiqo Malang yang mengandung kalimat kesantunan imperatif linguistik dan pragmatik. Sumber data adalah tuturan lisan guru Bahasa Indonesia di MA dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah (1) teknik simak bebas libat cakap, (2) teknik rekam, dan (3) teknik catat. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan penelitian ini secara garis besar meliputi tiga langkah, yaitu (1) reduksi data, (2) penyajian data, dan (3) klasifikasi serta penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian ini guru menggunakan kesantunan linguistik imperatif dan kesantunan pragmatik imperatif. Kesantunan linguistik ditandai dengan ungkapan penanda kesantunan tolong, ayo, coba dan silakan. Kesantunan pragmatik dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu tuturan deklaratif dan tuturan interogatif. Tuturan pragmatik deklaratif yang digunakan guru antara lain suruhan, ajakan dan larangan, sedangkan tuturan pragmatik interogatif antara lain perintah dan larangan. http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/aksara/v21i1.pp88-101

Abstract

Kondisi masyarakat di Gedongtataan yang bisa disebut sebagai masyarakat dwibahasa karena masyarakat Gedongtataan menguasai lebih dari satu bahasa, sekurang-kurangnya menguasai bahasa Daerah dan bahasa Indonesia. Lebih rumitnya lagi, dalam berkomunikasi masyarakat Gedongtataan sering memasukan unsur-unsur bahasa lain ke dalam bahasa yang dominan dipakai. Kenyataan tersebut menarik untuk diteliti bagaimana pemilihan kode (bahasa) oleh masyarakat Jawa di Gedongtataan dalam berkomunikasi sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untukmemaparkan wujud variasi kode bahasa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Selanjutnya teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik siamak bebas libat cakap, teknik simak libat cakap, dan teknik rekam.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, ditemukan kode-kode bahasa yang dominan digunakan oleh masyarakat tutur Jawa di berbagai ranah. Kode yang ditemukan anatara lain kode yang berupa Bahasa Jawa (BJ), Bahasa Indonesia (BI), dan Bahasa Asing. Kode BJ terdapat dua ragam yakni ragam krama dan ngoko, sedangkan kode BA berupa bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Arab. Khusus kode BA hanya ditemukan berupa penyisipan-penyisipan ke dalam kode BJ dan BI baik berupa campur kode dan alih kode.Kata Kunci: Pemilihan Kode, Masyarakat Dwi Bahasa, Variasi Kode

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of group learning strategies in teaching and learning English at the stage of junior high schools in Bandar Lampung. Moreover, this study used a descriptive qualitative research. Observation, open-ended questionnaires, and interviews were used in this study. The result of this study showed that the group work strategy had significant effect towards English learning outcomes. In addition, some teachers and students approved that the group work strategy is an active learning strategy. It was proven by teachers’ answers on open-ended questionnaires. In sum, it can be inferred that group work strategy can be used to make an active learning and improve students’ outcomes in learning English. Although in pandemic situation, group work strategy can be applied by using some application which can support teaching and learning English. Keywords: learning strategy, group work
