Abstract

Ritual communication carried out by the Pandita is an important aspect in maintaining spiritual connectedness between the people, the universe, and God. This analysis will examine how the Pandita uses symbols, language, and gestures in religious ceremonies to convey religious messages and build a deep spiritual atmosphere. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of ritual communication of the pandita in Hindu religious ceremonies. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study are the Central Role of the Pandita as a spiritual mediator who connects Hindus with God through religious rituals and also conveys religious and moral values. Ritual communication in Hindu religious ceremonies involves the use of symbolic language, such as mantras, and sacred objects (fire, incense, tirta) that have deep spiritual meaning. This symbolism enriches the communication process between the people, the pandita, and divine power. Mantra as Sacred Communication in Mantras spoken by the pandita in Sanskrit or Old Balinese are a form of verbal communication that is considered to have spiritual power. Non-Verbal Communication: Body movements and ritual attitudes carried out by the pandita during the ceremony are also important forms of communication. Social and Cultural Functions: Ritual communication led by the pandita plays a role in strengthening social cohesion and cultural identity in the Hindu community. Ritual ceremonies not only function as a spiritual means, but also as a medium to strengthen relationships between community members and maintain cultural heritage. Education and Transformation of Religious Values act as educators who convey Hindu teachings directly through rituals. Abstract

The life of Javanese society is inseparable from the orientation of maintaining harmony in every social bond. One of the most important social bonds is the family. The family becomes the primary vessel for shaping the character and identity of each individual. In Javanese cultural wisdom, this is closely tied to character education or unggah-ungguh within the family. The researcher seeks to examine the education of unggah-ungguh using the philosophical hermeneutic method to understand its principles and application. The data used comes from various literature sources, including journals, books, and other texts obtained through a literature review. The researcher’s study led to the following conclusions: 1) In unggah-ungguh teachings, the principles of unity and independence are emphasized to maintain harmony and social rootedness while upholding independence and the nobility of character. 2) The Javanese language serves as the primary medium for unggah-ungguh education, training individuals in refinement of character and sensitivity to the social context they face. 3) Proficiency in using the Javanese language correctly (bener and pener) influences the refinement of behavior of those who use it. This becomes a key factor in fostering harmony in social life, both within the family and in broader social contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of integrating religious philosophy teachings in early childhood education (PAUD) as an effort to increase the values of tolerance and empathy in children. Religious philosophy offers universal principles that can be applied in the context of children's character education, including values such as compassion, justice, and respect for diversity. Through a qualitative approach, this study observes the process of integrating religious philosophy values into learning activities in PAUD and its impact on children's social behavior. The results of the study indicate that with an approach based on stories, games, and concrete experiences, children can absorb and practice the values of tolerance and empathy in their daily lives. In addition, this approach also shows that introducing these values strengthens children's social interactions, increases their awareness of differences, and forms better prosocial behavior. Although there are challenges in implementation, such as limited teacher understanding and resistance to diversity, these findings indicate that integrating religious philosophy into early childhood education can be an effective strategy to shape a more tolerant and empathetic future generation. This study suggests the need for more inclusive curriculum support, training for educators, and active involvement of parents and communities to support this integration process.

Abstract

Geguritan is a classical Balinese literary form that continues to captivate literature enthusiasts. Geguritan Patibrata conveys profound Hindu religious teachings, particularly significant for Hindu women in fulfilling their swadharma (sacred duty) in society. This study aims to explore the structure and values embedded in Geguritan Patibrata. The research methodology consists of manuscript inventory and literature review for data collection, while translation and descriptive methods are applied for analysis. Structural analysis reveals three core elements: theme, plot, and characterization. The central theme is a wife's loyalty to her husband, reflecting the concept of patibrata. The plot follows a classical structure: (1) The exposition introduces the main character, Dhyah Sunyawati. (2) The complication emerges as Wang Bhang Mahacitta falls in love with Dhyah Nawang Sasih, intending to marry her. (3) The resolution shows Dhyah Sunyawati, discovering her husband’s sorrow and, out of selflessness, granting him permission to marry Dhyah Nawang Sasih. Dhyah Sunyawati is the protagonist, supported by characters including Wang Bhang Mahacitta, Dhyah Nawang Sasih, Dhang Hyang Mahadisara, Wang Bhang Dwiyajñana, Dhyah Dwiajñani, Dhang Hyang Lingga Pranawa, and Maharsi Sri Winddhu. The work conveys philosophical values (Widhi Tattwa, Atma Tattwa, Karma Phala Tattwa, Punarbhawa Tattwa), ethical values (faithfulness, politeness, sincerity), and aesthetic values through poetic depictions of nature in the hermitage.

Abstract

Pasraman Saraswati Tri Parartha Mataram integrates multicultural education grounded in Hindu philosophy to instill the value of religious moderation. This research departs from the discourse of religious education, which not only focuses on theological aspects but also on the formation of inclusive, contextual, and moderate social character and religious ethics. The purpose of this study is to identify the learning strategies used by Acarya in teaching the values of religious moderation and analyze their contribution to the social attitudes and religiosity of pasraman students. This study employs a qualitative case study approach, focusing on the main subjects: Acarya, Sisya, and parents. We collected data through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation, followed by a thematic analysis. The findings of the study show that the internalization of the value of religious moderation runs effectively through learning approaches rooted in Hindu philosophy, such as Tat Twam Asi, Ahimsa, and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Learning strategies that combine ritual practices, examples, and strengthening social attitudes have been proven to be able to form a character that is tolerant, religious, and respectful of differences. The main contribution of this article lies in offering a contextual model of local religion-based multicultural education that can be replicated in other religious educational institutions. The results of this study are important for the development of religious education, educational philosophy, and da'wah communication based on local culture and spirituality as a transformative approach to strengthening religious moderation in pluralistic societies.

Abstract

This study examines the Mapag Rare ceremony conducted by the community of Pemunut Hamlet, West Lombok, as a form of ritual communication rich in symbolic meaning and local philosophical values. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research explores the communicative and philosophical dimensions embedded in each stage of the ritual, emphasizing how the community interprets the birth of a child as a spiritual event that connects humans with nature, ancestors, and the Divine. The findings reveal that communication during the ceremony occurs both verbally and non-verbally, through prayers, sacred water symbols, ketupat (rice cakes), yellow rice, and other ritual elements. Philosophical values such as purity, cosmic harmony, social solidarity, and submission to Divine will are strongly reflected in the practice. However, modernization poses challenges to the preservation of the ceremony’s philosophical meanings among younger generations. Therefore, a deep understanding of ritual communication and the values it embodies is essential to sustain the continuity of local cultural identity.
