Abstract

The academic and thesis supervision processes at the Faculty of Computer Science, UNIKA Santo Thomas Medan, currently face various challenges, including a lack of clear structure in scheduling and difficulties in monitoring student progress. To address these issues, this research aims to develop a web-based application that supports monitoring and evaluation of the supervision process. The application is designed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, which facilitates flexible and responsive development tailored to user needs. With features such as supervision scheduling, student progress tracking, and automatic evaluation, this application is expected to enhance the effectiveness of supervision, facilitate communication between lecturers and students, and support more structured academic management within the faculty. The implementation of this application has successfully improved the efficiency of the supervision process and ensured that students receive more structured guidance.

Abstract

The prototype of the fish drying tool for the production of salted fish is designed to enhance efficiency and control in the salted fish drying process by utilizing IoT technology to monitor and regulate the drying environment conditions. The DHT22 sensor connected to port D5 is used to measure temperature and humidity inside the drying room. The data collected by this sensor is sent to a microcontroller connected to a relay to control the heater and DC fan, as well as a buzzer as a warning system if the room temperature exceeds 60° C. The Blynk application is used for a user interface that allows for the remote monitoring and adjustment of drying parameters via a smartphone. The test results show that this system is capable of maintaining the conditions for drying salted fish within optimal temperature and humidity ranges, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of the drying process. The integration of IoT technology in this device facilitates monitoring and control, as well as enhancing the overall effectiveness of the drying process.

Abstract

Bullying is a violent act intended to cause harm or humiliation to another person. Bullying can take many different forms, including verbal and nonverbal, and it frequently targets people who are thought to be weaker or different. Nevertheless, because many bullying incidents go unreported, it is challenging to gather reliable statistics on the prevalence of bullying. In this study, the number of bullying cases in the field of education is estimated using a linear regression approach. This algorithm is used because it may estimate based on pertinent data, like the gender-based type of bullying and data on the quantity of bullying events that occurred in the preceding year. According to the study's findings, 2,250 bullying incidences are predicted for the upcoming year 2024, with a MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Error) of 0,07% or an accuracy level of 99,3%, categorized as highly accurate forecasting results.

Abstract

In rapidly urban environments, air quality has become an important issue that affects public health and the environment. This research aims to design and implement a prototype of an IoT-based air quality monitoring device that can be used to monitor air conditions in urban environments. This prototype uses the DHT11 sensor for measuring temperature and humidity, the MQ135 sensor to detect the concentration of air pollutants such as CO, CO2, ALCOHOL, TOLUENE, NH4, and ACETONE, and an OLED LCD for displaying information. This system uses the NodeMCU ESP8266 as a microcontroller that connects devices to the internet and sends data to the Blynk application platform. The Blynk application serves as a user interface that allows for real-time monitoring of the device through a smartphone. With this system, users can obtain real-time air quality data to protect health and the environment in urban areas. The prototype evaluation shows that this system is effective in monitoring and displaying air quality information, as well as providing easy access to data through the Blynk application.

Abstract

Plagiarism is a serious threat, especially to academic honesty, so a detection system that can analyze various types of documents is needed. This research develops a plagiarism detection system using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to convert image text into digital text. Rabin – Karp algorithm with rolling hash and Dice Coefficient Similarity is applied to measure similarities between documents. Testing is carried out on .doc, .txt, .jpg files. As a result, the system can detect plagiarism well in clear text and image documents, but accuracy can decrease in low-quality images. In conclusion, the similarity of content, sentence structure, and format affects the degree of similarity, while OCR techniques work effectively even though they are limited to low-quality images.

Abstract

Enhancing the image quality of the Indonesian Identity Card is crucial to ensure the clarity and accuracy of information in various applications, such as identity verification, administration, and security. This study aims to improve the digital image quality of Identity Card using the Contrast Stretching and Retinex methods. Contrast Stretching is employed to enhance image contrast, while the Retinex method is used to maintain and improve the clarity of colors and image details. The implementation of these methods is carried out using Python. The test results show that these methods are effective in improving the quality of Identity Card images, making the information on the images clearer and easier to read. This research contributes to the development of more advanced image processing technology, which can be applied to various verification and administrative needs that require high reliability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of satisfaction of STMIK Kaputama Binjai students with physical facilities (classrooms, laboratories, prayer rooms, wifi) and general services (administration, academic guidance, library, security, campus cleanliness) using multiple linear regression methods. Data were collected through questionnaires from students in the 2022/2023 academic year. The results showed that both variables have a significant effect on student satisfaction, with a regression coefficient of physical facilities of 0.40 and general services of 0.59, indicating that general services have a greater impact. Prediction of student satisfaction reached an accuracy level of 98% with a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) value of 2%. Laboratory facilities and internet access (wifi) are the dominant factors affecting satisfaction. Based on these findings, improvements in both aspects are recommended to increase student satisfaction and institutional competitiveness.

Abstract

In the rapidly advancing digital era, image file security has become a critical issue, especially with the increasing risks of data breaches and attacks on digital files. This study aims to enhance the security of image files by implementing a combination of two cryptographic algorithms: Fast Data Encipherment Algorithm- 4 (FEAL-4) and Base64. FEAL-4 is a symmetric encryption algorithm known for its high speed and processing efficiency, while Base64 is used for encoding binary data into ASCII format to ensure safer transmission. This research develops a super encryption system that integrates these two algorithms to protect the integrity and confidentiality of image files, particularly for BMP, JPEG, and PNG formats. The implementation was carried out using the Visual Basic programming language. The results of the study show that the combination of FEAL-4 and Base64 algorithms significantly enhances the security of image files, with a high success rate in the encryption and decryption processes.

Abstract

This research aims to design and build a temperature and humidity control device in an Internet of Things (IoT)-based rice storage bin using the Blynk platform, ESP8266 module, DHT22 sensor, buzzer, 2-channel relay, fan, and lamp. The quality of rice is greatly affected by the conditions of the storage environment, especially temperature and humidity. Therefore, a system is needed that is able to monitor and control these two parameters in real-time to maintain the quality of rice during storage. The system is designed to use a DHT22 sensor to detect temperature and humidity, and then the data is sent to a ESP8266 microcontroller. A 2-channel relay sets the fan and lights to adjust the temperature and humidity, while the buzzer serves as a warning alarm. In addition, the system is equipped with an automatic notification feature through the Blynk application that informs users if the temperature or humidity exceeds a predetermined limit.

Abstract

This study aims to categorize students based on their level of understanding of programming language courses using the K-Means algorithm. Students often experience difficulties in understanding the basic concepts of programming languages, which can affect their ability to solve programming problems. Using data obtained from questionnaires filled out by STMIK Kaputama Binjai students, this study analyzed variables such as attendance rate, learning interest, and level of understanding. The analysis results show the existence of patterns and relationships between these variables, which can be used to identify groups of students who have a good, poor, or no understanding of the course. This research is expected to provide input for educational institutions in designing learning strategies that are more effective and attractive to students.
