Abstract

This literature review examines the impact of learning models on students' scientific literacy and provides critiques of the strengths and weaknesses of the literature. These critiques offer recommendations for future research. Additionally, this review analyzes the role of socio-scientific issues in the context of scientific literacy. To conduct this review, 27 articles from Scopus-indexed journals were critically analyzed using the keywords: (1) Socio-scientific issues in science literacy, (2) model-based learning in scientific literacy, (3) inquiry-based learning in scientific literacy, and (4) socio-scientific issues using model-based learning in science literacy. The analysis was facilitated by the Publish or Perish software. The findings of this review suggest that various inquiry learning models have a positive impact on scientific literacy across different topics and support students' learning achievement. However, it was observed that two specific types of inquiry-based learning models, namely open inquiry-based learning and independent inquiry-based learning, were not effective in improving scientific literacy. Therefore, future research should focus on alternative inquiry-based learning models that have shown promising results in improving scientific literacy. Furthermore, this review highlights that the existing literature predominantly discusses socioscientific issues within the framework of curriculum settings and does not adequately address real-life problems associated with these issues.

Abstract

This research investigates the implementation and efficacy of a current limiter electronics system within solar pump systems, focusing on its ability to regulate current under varying sunlight intensities, encompassing both strong and weak illumination conditions. To assess the system's performance, an experimental setup integrates the solar pump system with the current limiter electronics, subjecting it to a range of sunlight intensities. Under optimal conditions, the current limiter adeptly controlled current flow, maintaining it within specified limits (2.54 A to 3.90 A) as incident sunlight intensity varied from 1000 W/m³ to 2000 W/m³. Equally impressive was the system's capability to navigate reduced sunlight, adjusting current flow (1.20 A to 2.10 A) in response to lower intensities (500 W/m³ to 1300 W/m³). These findings not only advance our comprehension of current limiting techniques in solar pump systems but also offer valuable insights for future solar-powered system designs and implementations. Overall, the research underscores the vital role of a dependable current limiter electronics system in optimizing current flow across varying sunlight intensities, from strong to weak, within solar pump systems.

Abstract

It will be possible to determine whether the learning objectives have been achieved by assessing the learning outcomes. In addition to intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence is another factor that determines students' learning outcomes. This study aimed to determine how intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ) influence the mathematics learning outcomes of grade XI students of MAS TPI Sawit Seberang. Based on the hypothesis proposed, intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ) influence the mathematics learning outcomes of grade XI students of MAS TPI Sawit Seberang. The type of research used is quantitative research with an ex post facto method. The research instruments were an intellectual intelligence (IQ) questionnaire of 15 statements, an emotional intelligence (EQ) questionnaire of 22 valid statements, and odd semester student math report cards as data on student math learning outcomes. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistical analysis, prerequisite tests, and hypothesis testing. The research findings are that 62.5% of students have high-category intellectual intelligence, 72.73% have moderate-category emotional intelligence, and 98.86% have very high-category math learning outcomes. From the results of the research that has been done, the researchers draw several conclusions: (1) Intellectual intelligence (IQ) influences the mathematics learning outcomes of XI grade students of MAS TPI Sawit Seberang. (2) emotional intelligence (EQ) influences the mathematics learning outcomes of XI grade students of MAS TPI Sawit Seberang. (3) There is an effect of intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ) simultaneously on the mathematics learning outcomes of XI grade students of MAS TPI Sawit Seberang. Furthermore, it is expected to conduct research with other variables to determine the effect of other variables on math learning outcomes. In addition, a more sustainable testing method, such as testing conducted periodically during the student's learning year, should be used. This method will help more comprehensively and accurately determine the relationship between IQ, EQ, and student math learning outcomes.

Abstract

Metacognition generally has two essential components: metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive awareness. Unfortunately, research that focuses on and explores the description of metacognitive knowledge and its implications for the academic success of prospective science teacher students is still rare. The current study aimed to explore (1) the baseline levels of metacognitive knowledge (MK) among prospective science teachers (PST), (2) the relationship between the extent of MK and academic success, and (3) the potential differences in MK based on gender. The correlational research with the survey method was used in the study. The study involved 206 (male: 93 and female: 113) prospective science teachers who participated in a fundamental physics course at Mandalika University of Education as a sample. Data on MK was collected using twenty items of essay tests that are valid and reliable to collect PSTs’ MK. In contrast, PSTs’ learning success data was collected using instruments used in mid-semester examinations and practical laboratory test results. The data was further analyzed descriptively and statistically using the ANOVA and Pearson correlation tests. The result shows that PSTs’ MK is in the low category (MK<60). Additionally, male prospective science teachers demonstrated better declarative (mean: 59.247; p < 0.05) and procedural knowledge (mean: 64.482; p < 0.05) indicators, and MK positively correlates in each indicator. Based on the findings, it is evident that PSTs' MK significantly differs between males and females, the positive correlations between MK indicators, and potentially impact teaching practices and cognitive outcomes. Furthermore, future research needs to develop effective interventions, learning models, and instructional practices to enhance metacognitive skills and science learning outcomes in teacher education.
