Abstract

This article discusses the utilization of PowerPoint and Canva as effective learning support tools in Islamic religious education. The main objective of this research is to explore the advantages, disadvantages, and optimal steps of using both platforms in designing attractive and professional presentations. With the development of digital technology, visual presentations have become an essential component in educational communication. The main results of the discussion show that PowerPoint offers great flexibility with animation features and strong data integration, while Canva excels in ease of use as well as cloud-based aesthetic design. However, each has limitations, such as the need for software installation for PowerPoint and the dependence on an internet connection for Canva. The main conclusion of this research is that these two tools can complement each other, depending on the user's needs. PowerPoint is more suitable for formal presentations that require complex animations, while Canva is ideal for creative designs with online collaboration. This research is expected to provide practical guidance for educators in choosing an appropriate tool to improve learning effectiveness.

Abstract

improving learning outcomes. Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) offers potential to enhance English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, particularly in developing nations like India. Nonetheless, ESL learners often face challenges related to motivation, infrastructure, and pedagogical integration despite the growing technological accessibility. This study explores CALL effectiveness in Indian tertiary-level ESL classrooms, focusing on its impact on student engagement and language proficiency. A quantitative research was designed and the data was collected from 80 students in English departments through a structured questionnaire. The study assessed students’ perceptions of CALL. The authors analyzed benefits and challenges of CALL using descriptive statistics. The obtained data indicated students as generally benefitting from CALL. The participants mentioned increased motivation, language skills, and access to diverse learning materials. However, we found that the optimum CALL implementation was hindered by several barriers. Key barriers were unreliable internet access, technical difficulties, limited teacher training, and insufficient resources. The present study highlights the need for targeted interventions, including infrastructure development, teacher training programs, and institutional support, to maximize CALL’s potential. Removing these barriers can foster more effective and engaging language learning experiences rendering CALL as a transformative tool in ESL education. The findings contribute to ongoing discussions on digital learning in ESL education and provide actionable recommendations for educators and policymakers seeking to enhance language instruction through technology.

Abstract

Literacy has a crucial role in the education and development of a country, but the level of literacy in Indonesia is still relatively low. One of the innovations to increase students' interest in reading is literacy tourism, which is now developing from conventional methods to technology-based approaches. This research aims to analyze the role of technology in revolutionizing literacy tourism and its impact on students' interest in reading and learning. With a literature review method, this study examines various academic sources related to literacy tourism, educational technology, and its implementation challenges. The results of the study show that the use of technology such as digital libraries, e-books, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) can increase students' interest in reading and understanding through more interactive learning experiences. However, challenges such as limited infrastructure, uneven access to technology, and lack of teacher training are still the main obstacles. Therefore, synergy between the government, schools, and the private sector is needed to support the integration of technology in literacy tourism. With an inclusive approach, technology-based literacy tourism has the potential to strengthen literacy culture in schools and create a more critical and innovative generation.

Abstract

Some Arabic language lovers at The New College, University of Madras, Chennai, India, have expressed concerns about their writing skills in Arabic. To address this, they spent their vacation time engaging in writing exercises. This study aims to describe the steps involved in these writing skill exercises and the production of a magazine as a result of these activities. The researcher employed a qualitative research method to gain a comprehensive understanding of the writing exercises. Data was collected through personal interviews with five students, focusing on the task division process, selection of tools used, and other related aspects. The data analysis followed the three steps of the Miles and Huberman model: data display, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The results indicated that the writing exercises involved dividing the writing topics among five individuals. The topics included university events, daily activities, prominent figures, archives, and photo collections. To facilitate their work, they used Canva for design purposes. Ultimately, they submitted their work to a supervisor for corrections and suggestions. It was found that the students still struggled with certain methods, particularly with paying attention to writing "hamza." Consequently, they published their work via WhatsApp and Instagram.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Educandy application as an assessment tool for Arabic language learning among undergraduate students at The New College, Chennai. The research assesses three key aspects: the validity of the media, the validity of the assessment, and the overall matching of questions. Utilizing expert evaluation, statistical reliability tests, and hypothesis testing through SPSS, the study measures the effectiveness of Educandy in enhancing student learning outcomes. The results indicate that while the assessment tool exhibits high reliability (Cronbach's alpha > 0.7), the overall effectiveness of Educandy remains limited. The Gain-N test reveals a 47.86% improvement in learning outcomes, categorizing its effectiveness as "less effective." Hypothesis testing further supports this conclusion, showing no significant difference in performance between the experimental and control groups. Consequently, this study concludes that while Educandy offers engaging features, its effectiveness as an Arabic language assessment tool requires further improvement to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of Canva in improving students’ academic performance. The present inquiry employed a meta-analysis method using various publications retrieved from DOAJ, ERIC, Dimensions, and Google Scholar. A total of 22 studies with 26 valid datasets (n = 1540) were analyzed, records were primarily from Indonesia and published from 2022 to 2024. Most documents were considered to be of moderate quality, with concerns or potential risks related to the domains on the comparability of the comparison group and blinding of assessment. Results showed that Canva has a very large and significant effect (g = 1.703, p < .001) on students’ academic performance, though substantial heterogeneity and publication bias were detected. Sensitivity analyses, such as the Trim-and-Fill and the WAAP method, confirmed the robustness of the findings. The results also revealed that country and subject influenced the effect size, but uneven subgroup distribution limited conclusive findings. Conversely, duration, class size, grade level, assessment blinding, and academic outcome, showed no significant moderating effects. Noteworthy, subgroup analysis suggests that Canva has a potential and greater effect in Indonesia, particularly in English subjects, with smaller class sizes, among high school and university students who actively engage in the platform to improve communication skills. This meta-analysis provides empirical evidence of the positive effect of Canva on students’ academic performance. Lastly, this investigation offers practical recommendations for future studies and practices.
