Abstract

The integration of digital learning tools in higher education has transformed online learning, enhancing student engagement and academic performance. This study investigates the impact of digital learning tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), interactive simulations, and gamified content on student engagement and achievement in online courses. A qualitative research design was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with 52 lecturers from 12 universities in Uganda. Thematic analysis revealed six key findings: Digital tools enhance student engagement through interactivity, they help bridge the gap between theory and practice, they positively impact academic achievement, they facilitate communication between students and lecturers, Gamification increases student motivation, and they promote student autonomy in learning. The study concludes that digital tools significantly improve online education, but challenges such as limited internet access and digital literacy remain. It recommends improving digital infrastructure, providing faculty training, and integrating interactive digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (PAUD) has a strategic role in shaping children's character and cultural identity from an early age. In the midst of increasingly massive globalization, children are increasingly exposed to foreign cultures that can erode their local cultural values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of PAUD curriculum based on local wisdom in the context of formal education and evaluate its impact on strengthening the cultural identity of early childhood. The method used is a literature study by examining various theories, concepts, and relevant previous research results. The results of the analysis show that the integration of local cultural elements such as folklore, regional songs, traditional games, and traditional ceremonies into learning activities can increase children's cultural awareness and shape character based on noble values such as honesty, responsibility, tolerance, and cooperation. The implementation of this curriculum requires careful planning and the involvement of various parties, including educators, parents, traditional leaders, and local communities so that local wisdom values can be optimally internalized in every learning activity. However, the implementation of local wisdom-based curriculum faces various significant challenges, such as limited competence and resources of educators, lack of official guidelines and policy support, minimal involvement of parents and traditional leaders, and competition with the flow of globalization and digital media that distract children. Serious attention is needed from policy makers, adequate teacher training, close collaboration between schools and communities, and the development of learning facilities and infrastructure that support the optimization of this planning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning on students' character development at SMA Negeri 4 Sibolga. Character education is a crucial element in the national education system, particularly in shaping students into individuals who are religious, honest, disciplined, responsible, and cooperative. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey method, with questionnaires distributed to 60 eleventh-grade students. The results indicate that IRE learning has a positive influence on students' character formation. The religious aspect scored the highest (88%), followed by responsibility (81%) and honesty (79%). Meanwhile, cooperation (72%) and discipline (74%) were identified as areas needing further enhancement through more participatory teaching methods. These findings support the view that IRE is a strategic tool for strengthening character education in secondary schools. Therefore, innovative, contextual, and applicable teaching approaches are needed to ensure optimal internalization of character values among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of the completeness of learning media to the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) of students at SMP Negeri 2 Padangsidimpuan, Indonesia. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach with descriptive and correlational designs. The study population consisted of all students of grade VIII, with a sample taken by purposive sampling of 60 students. Data were collected through questionnaires to measure the completeness of learning media and PAI learning outcome tests to measure students' academic achievement. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between the completeness of learning media and students' PAI learning outcomes. The average learning outcome score of students who used complete learning media was higher than that of students who used incomplete learning media. This finding indicates that the use of varied and complete learning media can improve students' understanding and learning outcomes in PAI subjects. This study suggests that PAI teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Padangsidimpuan make better use of and complete existing learning media to improve learning effectiveness. In addition, school administrators are expected to provide adequate resources to support the use of better learning media.

Abstract

Blended learning (BL), which combines online digital tools with traditional face-to-face instruction, has gained increasing prominence in higher education, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic. This study conducts a systematic review of 50 peer-reviewed empirical studies (2020–2024) to evaluate the impact of BL on academic performance, student engagement, and learner satisfaction. The results reveal that BL enhances learning outcomes when supported by responsive instruction, flexible access, and structured digital platforms, particularly in STEM disciplines. However, the effectiveness of BL is highly context-dependent. Disciplines relying on interpretive and dialogic learning, as well as under-resourced institutions, often experience minimal or negative effects, especially in asynchronous-heavy models. The review also identifies a decline in student engagement beyond the fourth week in flex-only formats, suggesting that synchronous interaction is critical for sustained motivation and retention. Key barriers to effective implementation include faculty workload, digital inequality, and institutional inertia. Addressing these challenges requires structured faculty development, investment in accessible technology, and alignment with discipline-specific pedagogy. This review affirms the pedagogical value of BL but emphasizes the need for inclusive, adaptive, and strategically supported approaches to ensure its sustainable integration across diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This study analyzes the evaluation of high school curriculum in shaping students' character in the digital era, focusing on the Independent Curriculum. Character education is the main pillar in shaping a generation that is intelligent, moral, and spiritual. The Independent Curriculum emphasizes flexibility, differentiation, and the formation of the Pancasila Student Profile, but its implementation faces challenges such as teacher readiness and facilities. The digital era brings positive and negative impacts, such as easy access to information as well as the risk of individualism and the spread of negative content, which complicates character formation. The evaluation shows the importance of the role of teachers, the school environment, and families in supporting character education. A character strengthening strategy is needed that integrates moral values and digital literacy in learning, supported by teacher training, adequate infrastructure, and assessment system reform. The goal is to create high school graduates with strong, resilient, and capable characters to face global challenges.
