Abstract

This study analyses publication trends in the study of mathematical representation ability in Indonesia using a bibliometric approach. A total of 71 articles published between 2016 and 2025 were analysed, with a focus on the period from 2020 to 2025. Data were collected from Publish or Perish, SINTA, Open Knowledge, and Scopus, and then analysed both quantitatively and descriptively based on the year of publication, journal indexation, research method, citation, and keywords. The results indicate that publications reached a peak in 2022 and then declined from 2023 to 2025. Of all the articles analysed, 77% were published in national journals, while international publications were still very limited. Furthermore, the dominance of qualitative methods is 62%, followed by quasi-experimental and quantitative methods. Keyword analysis revealed a major cluster of "mathematical representation abilities" that are heavily associated with student characteristics and learning strategies. This study offers a comprehensive overview of the development of mathematical representation research in Indonesia, highlighting the need to expand scientific collaboration and enhance representation competence in future education policies.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of mathematical literacy research in Indonesia within the PISA context from 2020 to 2025. The analysis was conducted using a literature review combined with bibliometric techniques, drawing data from Publish or Perish (Google Scholar) and visualizing patterns using VOSviewer. From an initial collection of 200 publications, 25 studies were identified as relevant to the PISA framework. The bibliometric results include network visualization, which shows the clustering of key themes; overlay visualization, illustrating shifts in research focus over time; and density visualization, highlighting frequently explored topics. The findings reveal that studies on mathematical literacy in Indonesia remain primarily focused on educational themes, although an emerging interest in interdisciplinary and digital-related perspectives is evident. These results also highlight several ongoing issues, including the limited integration of PISA competencies, uneven distribution of research, and the need for stronger digital and cross-disciplinary approaches. Consequently, this study emphasizes the importance of advancing mathematical literacy research in Indonesia to address contemporary educational challenges and support the enhancement of students’ competencies.

Abstract

Parental absence is known to disrupt adolescents’ emotional stability and cognitive functioning, often leading to persistent Negative Thinking in school contexts. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group counselling services using the Cognitive Defusion technique in reducing negative thinking among students experiencing Parental Absence at SMA Negeri 1 Siantar. A quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design was employed. Sixteen students were selected through purposive sampling and divided into two groups: an experimental group of eight students and a control group of eight students. The instrument used was a negative thinking questionnaire adapted from Charry Mae P. Cepada-Grepon. Data were analysed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired-sample t-test, and independent-sample t-test. The findings showed a significant reduction in negative thinking scores in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). These results indicated that Cognitive Defusion was effective in helping students distance themselves from negative thoughts, interpret them more objectively, and reduce their emotional impact. The study concluded that Cognitive Defusion can serve as a valuable counselling intervention to support students experiencing parental absence. These findings also suggest implications for school counsellors in promoting students’ psychological resilience through structured mental health programs.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of low levels of mathematical communication and critical thinking among students, often stemming from the widespread use of traditional, teacher-centred instructional methods. The objective of this research is to examine the impact of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on seventh-grade students' mathematical communication and critical thinking skills in statistics. A quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group was applied. Participants included 35 students in the experimental group (Class VII-3, using PjBL) and 35 students in the control group (Class VII-5, using conventional methods) at MTs Al-Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung. Data was collected using tests for critical thinking and observation sheets for mathematical communication skills. The results showed significantly higher average scores in the experimental group compared to the control group for both skills. Specifically, the mean scores for mathematical communication were 88.05 (experimental) versus 48.84 (control), and for critical thinking were 74 (experimental) versus 50.28 (control). The Independent-Samples t-Test confirmed significant differences (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000 < 0.05) for both skills, while ANOVA (F = 43.634, Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05) further confirmed PjBL's significant positive effect on learning outcomes. These findings demonstrate that the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model is effective in enhancing students' mathematical communication and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Spotify music platform on improving the English pronunciation of eighth-grade students at MTs Muhammadiyah Al-Haq Palu, with a specific focus on the articulation of liquid consonants (/l/ and /r/), which commonly present difficulties for Indonesian learners of English. A quantitative pre-experimental design, utilising a one-group pre-test and post-test model, was employed with a sample of 28 students. Pronunciation tests were administered before and after the treatment to evaluate progress. The results revealed a significant improvement, as indicated by the increase in the mean score from 9.36 to 15.25, supported by a t-value of 27.36, which exceeds the t-table value of 2.052. These findings demonstrate that English songs on Spotify offer repetitive and authentic listening input, which strengthens articulation accuracy. The novelty of this study lies in analysing differential improvement between /l/ and /r/ sounds through a Spotify-based intervention. The implication suggests that digital music platforms can be used as effective supplementary tools in pronunciation teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to develop the “Deep Talk” Flash Card media as an innovative tool in group guidance services to enhance junior high school students’ ability to plan their future studies. The research was motivated by the fact that many ninth-grade students still experience confusion about their next educational pathway due to limited self-reflection skills, insufficient career information, and a lack of interactive counselling media. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research subjects consisted of 20 ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Dukuhwaru, and the media’s feasibility was assessed by a material expert and a media expert. Data were collected through needs assessment questionnaires, validation sheets, pre-test and post-test instruments, and observation guidelines. The results show that the Deep Talk Flash Card media was categorised as highly feasible, with feasibility scores of 89% for the material aspect and 92% for the media aspect. The implementation of group guidance using this media effectively improved students’ study planning abilities, as indicated by an increase from the “fair” category in the pre-test to the “good” category in the post-test. Students also demonstrated greater engagement, higher confidence in expressing opinions, and improved reflective skills. Thus, the Deep Talk Flash Card media is effective and can serve as an innovative alternative for school counsellors to help students make more mature, well-directed educational decisions.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the meaning of character education in Civics Education (PKn) learning at MTs Laboratorium UIN Sumatera Utara (UINSU) and the role of teachers in shaping students' character. Character education is an important focus in the Merdeka Curriculum and in reinforcing Pancasila values to produce a generation that is virtuous, religious, and has a sense of nationalism. This study uses a qualitative case study design with PKn teachers and students in grades VII–IX as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and then analyzed using the interactive analysis techniques of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014), with source and method triangulation to ensure data validity. The research results show that character education in Civics at MTs Lab UINSU is implemented in an integrated manner through active learning, group discussions, case studies, and attitude assessments that emphasize discipline, responsibility, honesty, and respect for diversity. Civics teachers act as facilitators, mentors, and role models in instilling character values, supported by policies and a religious, conducive school environment. However, challenges such as differences in students' character readiness, limited access to technology, influences from the outside school environment, and limited learning time become obstacles to the optimal internalization of character.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate errors in students’ writing assignments and identify which errors students committed most often. This research was prompted by the fact that students in SMA Labschool UNTAD Palu struggle with the simple past tense as a language feature in recount texts. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative design, the study involved 15 students as the sample. Using the Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen as a guide, it was shown that students commit all types of grammatical errors. Misformation was committed the most with a total of 127 occurrences (80,89%). Omission ranked second with 20 appearances (12,74%), followed by addition errors with 9 appearances (5,73%), and misordering ranked last with only 1 appearance (0,64%). The high number of misformation errors indicated that students were struggling to form correct verb tenses and to choose the correct word form. This suggests that students’ understanding of English morphology and tense usage is inadequate, especially in forming sentences with past-tense verbs.

Abstract

This study explores the eleventh-grade students’ perceptions of using the dictation technique in English classes at Sukma Bangsa School of Sigi. Using a qualitative descriptive design, the researcher collected data from 30 students through an open-ended questionnaire and conducted semi-structured interviews with 11 purposively selected participants. Data were analyzed following Miles and Huberman’s interactive model (data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing). The findings show that most students hold positive perceptions of dictation: they find it interesting, challenging in a constructive way, and helpful in improving several language aspects. Respondents reported improvements in listening comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, spelling accuracy, and pronunciation awareness. They also noted gains in concentration, accuracy, and self-confidence. Common difficulties included the teacher’s fast reading speed, unfamiliar vocabulary, limited time for repetition, and trouble distinguishing similar sounds. To cope, students asked for repetitions, expanded vocabulary through self-study and media exposure, and compared answers with peers. The study concludes that dictation remains a relevant, low-tech technique that supports integrated language development when applied with appropriate pacing and pre-teaching of key vocabulary.
