Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology, alongside the growing visibility of LGBTQ+ issues in contemporary society, presents significant challenges for Christian-based schools in nurturing students’ character and spiritual development. This study aims to analyze and describe the digital education strategy model and the school-based Christian Religious Education (CRE) curriculum implemented at Gideon Senior High School, Jakarta, in anticipation of students’ potential involvement in the LGBTQ+ community. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with an inductive approach, this research adopts case study and phenomenological perspectives to gain an in-depth and contextual understanding. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the principal and CRE teachers, and document analysis. The research was conducted from January to April 2025, supported by preliminary observations of LGBTQ+ issues over the previous three years. The findings indicate that integrating digital education strategies into CRE learning significantly enhances the relevance and effectiveness of moral and spiritual instruction. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), digital animations, podcasts, Zoom, and YouTube fosters interactive, engaging learning experiences while supporting teachers in delivering character-based guidance. Moreover, the school-based CRE curriculum emphasises character formation through structured teaching, mentoring, counselling, discipleship, and spiritual practices such as worship, prayer, and fasting. It promotes moral integrity, emotional maturity, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and a Christ-centred life guided by the Holy Spirit. The study concludes that the synergy among digital innovation, faith-based curriculum, and strong teacher-parent collaboration forms an effective preventive model for holistic Christian education in the contemporary digital era.

Abstract

The growing prevalence of adolescent sexual misconduct, including promiscuity, sexual harassment, and exposure to pornography, highlights the urgent role of Islamic Religious Education in fostering moral awareness and character formation among Muslim youth. This study aims to examine the Al-Qur'an and Hadith perspectives on sex education, analyze the core values of Islamic sex education, and explore how these values can be integrated into the teaching of Islamic Religious Education. This research uses a literature-based qualitative approach using thematic analysis of Al-Qur'an verses and Prophetic traditions related to sexuality, supported by relevant scientific literature in Islamic education and ethics. Findings show that the core values of Islamic sex education include personal purity (iffah), control of desires, moral responsibility, preservation of dignity, and ethical social behavior. These values can be systematically integrated into the teaching of Islamic religious education through the domains of aqidah, morals, fiqh, and date, especially through contextual learning strategies and teacher moral examples. This study concludes that sex education based on the Qur'an and Hadith not only serves as a framework for preventing moral deviations but also as a foundation for building strong character among Muslim youth.

Abstract

This study investigates phonological interference in the production of the English voiced labiodental fricative /v/ among Kaili Rai EFL students. The research problem arises from the frequent substitution of /v/ with /f/ among Indonesian learners, while variation across phonological positions and specific regional language backgrounds remains underexplored. The objective of this study is to identify the types and frequency of interference in /v/ pronunciation and to examine positional vulnerability in its realization. A descriptive quantitative design was employed. Thirty-four students were selected through purposive sampling from a population of 211. Data were gathered using word lists, minimal pairs, and sentence reading tasks containing /v/ in initial, medial, and final positions. The recordings were transcribed using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and analyzed through frequency and percentage calculations. The findings reveal three types of interference: substitution, omission, and epenthesis, with substitution emerging as the most dominant pattern. Interference occurred more frequently in word-initial and word-final positions than in medial positions, indicating that phonological position plays a significant role in second language segment production. The results demonstrate that pronunciation difficulty is not solely caused by the absence of a phoneme in the first language but is also shaped by positional distribution.

Abstract

Learning and teaching are fundamental activities in Islam that possess a strong theological foundation in the Qur’an. The research problem addressed in this study is how learning and teaching are positioned in the Qur’anic perspective and what implications they have for the concept of Islamic education. This study aims to analyze the status of learning and teaching through a thematic interpretation of QS. al-‘Alaq/96:1–5, QS. al-Taubah/9:122, and QS. al-Mujādilah/58:11. The research employs a qualitative method based on library research using a thematic (maudhu‘i) tafsir approach, with descriptive-analytical analysis of Qur’anic verses as well as classical and contemporary exegetical literature. The results show that learning and teaching in the Qur’anic perspective are positioned as acts of worship, social responsibility, and means of elevating human dignity before Allah. Furthermore, educational activities in Islam are not merely oriented toward intellectual development but also integrate spiritual and social dimensions in a balanced manner. These findings affirm that ideal Islamic education should harmonize faith development, knowledge acquisition, and social responsibility.

Abstract

The implementation of an Islamic values-based curriculum requires collaboration between schools, parents, and the wider community. The research problem in this study concerns the extent of parental and community participation in supporting the implementation of a flexible and responsive curriculum that meets students’ needs at RA Nurul Huda. This study aims to describe and analyze the forms and levels of collaboration between parents and the community in supporting the implementation of an Islamic values-based curriculum. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with 15 parents and 10 community members who had relevant experience and knowledge. The findings indicate that parents and community members generally provide positive support for the implementation of the Islamic values-based curriculum, both through moral support and participation in school activities. However, several challenges remain, including limited awareness of the importance of Islamic education and limited capacity to support a flexible curriculum effectively. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening commitment, increasing awareness, and empowering parents and the community to optimize the implementation of the Islamic values-based curriculum at RA Nurul Huda.

Abstract

Elementary school students face increasing psychosocial and academic pressures, yet the role of extracurricular activities in shaping their resilience remains underexplored, particularly in the Indonesian primary education context. This study aims to analyze differences in resilience levels among elementary school students based on the types of extracurricular activities they participate in. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed involving 114 fourth-to-sixth-grade students from six private elementary schools in Kuningan Regency, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a resilience questionnaire grounded in seven adaptive skill aspects and analyzed using descriptive statistics, cross-tabulations, Pearson’s Chi-Square test, and Monte Carlo simulation, with relationship strength measured using Cramér’s V coefficient. Results showed that the majority of students fell in the moderate resilience category, but significant differences existed across extracurricular activity types. Science and sports activities showed a greater proportion of high resilience compared to arts, religious, English, and scouting activities. The difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05) with a medium-to-large effect size (Cramér’s V = 0.416). These findings confirm that not all extracurricular activities contribute equally to resilience development. This research enriches Positive Youth Development studies by providing comparative quantitative evidence in Indonesian primary education and highlights the importance of designing evidence-based extracurricular programs that integrate social-emotional skills development.

Abstract

The complexity of waste management in Batu City has increased due to population growth, tourism activities, shifting consumption patterns, and low public awareness of waste sorting. This study aims to analyze the implementation of waste management policies using Merilee S. Grindle’s implementation model and to evaluate the effectiveness of collaborative governance based on the framework developed by Ansell and Gash. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that in terms of policy content, the Mayor’s Regulation has incorporated essential principles such as waste reduction from source, sorting, and community participation. Regarding collaborative governance, initial forms of collaboration have emerged among the Environmental Agency, community groups, and the private sector. However, the overall waste management system in Batu City has not yet operated effectively, both in policy implementation and multi-stakeholder collaboration. This research is expected to serve as a reference for policymakers, particularly in tourism-oriented cities, in developing more effective and sustainable waste management systems.

Abstract

The implementation of child protection in educational institutions is mandated by Undang-Undang Nomor 35 Tahun 2014, which requires all educational institutions, including madrasahs, to ensure the fulfillment of children's rights and protection. However, in practice, the implementation of this regulation continues to face various challenges, including at Madrasah Negeri 2 Karawang. This study aims to describe the level of institutional readiness in implementing child protection law and to identify the achievements and obstacles encountered in protecting students from various forms of violence and rights violations. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the head of the madrasah, teachers, and administrative staff, as well as observations of school activities and policies. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and key findings related to the implementation of child protection policies. The results indicate that the madrasah has taken strategic steps to enhance its readiness, including the formulation of internal policies, the dissemination of child protection values, and the strengthening of supervision mechanisms. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, particularly in preventing and addressing physical and psychological violence. The level of child protection achievement is considered not yet optimal due to limited resources, insufficient training, and the absence of a comprehensive reporting system. Therefore, capacity building for teachers and educational staff, along with continuous policy support and supervision from the government, is necessary to strengthen the implementation of the child protection law in madrasahs.

Abstract

Many elementary students are able to decode written text fluently but struggle to construct coherent narratives with clear sequencing and causal relationships. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a culturally grounded non-text picture storybook to enhance narrative structuring skills among elementary school students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the Plomp model, consisting of preliminary investigation, design, realization, testing, and implementation phases. The product was developed based on Cirebon’s coastal ethnoscience and tested through a limited trial involving 30 second-grade students, followed by broader implementation with 200 students from ten public elementary schools in Cirebon City, Indonesia. Data were collected through expert validation, practicality questionnaires, pre-test and post-test assessments, and classroom observations. The results indicated that the storybook met high validity standards in terms of content (4.2), media design (4.0), and language (4.0). Practicality ratings from teachers (4.7) and students (4.1) showed positive user responses. Quantitative findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ narrative structuring skills, with a large effect size. The study concludes that integrating visual scaffolding with culturally relevant content effectively strengthens students’ ability to organize and express narratives. This research contributes to visual literacy development and culturally responsive pedagogy in elementary education.
