Abstract

This study investigates the effect of a local wisdom-based Value Clarification Technique (VCT) model on elementary students’ personality character values in geometry learning. The research addresses the limited integration of character education within cognitively oriented mathematics instruction. The objective is to examine differences in personality character values between students taught using the VCT model integrated with the ulos sadum cultural motif and those receiving conventional instruction. A quantitative true experimental design with a posttest-only control group was employed. A total of 120 fourth-grade students were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire measuring moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. Instrument validity and reliability were confirmed through confirmatory factor Analysis using PLS-SEM. Statistical analyses included normality and homogeneity tests, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression. The results indicate a significant difference between groups, with the experimental group achieving higher character scores. The VCT model accounted for 54.5% of the variance in personality character values. The findings demonstrate that integrating value clarification with culturally contextualised mathematics learning effectively strengthens students’ character development.

Abstract

The application of problem posing in mathematics education faces challenges, including teacher misconceptions and difficulties. This study examines the implementation of problem posing in Indonesia and internationally, focusing on the improvements achieved and the steps taken to achieve them. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a qualitative descriptive approach was used, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, to explore the impact of problem posing on cognitive and affective aspects. Cognitive aspects include creativity, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, mathematical communication, and related skills, while affective aspects include motivation, curiosity, and enjoyment. The research found that the general structure of problem posing is similar across countries: the teacher presents a situation, students pose a problem, and then solve it. However, international practices often include additional steps, such as identifying problem elements and designing problem structures, before formulation. Indonesia's approach tends to focus more on textbook-based activities and exercises. This study highlights the differences and similarities in problem-posing methods, suggesting that while there are shared principles, international practices often incorporate a more structured and comprehensive approach than those in Indonesia.

Abstract

Evaluating junior high school students' public speaking skills often faces the challenge of subjectivity, especially in international schools where manual assessment lacks mathematical rigor. This study applied the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method with manual calculations to objectively rank 28 students from Phatnawitya School, Yala, Thailand, based on seven Canva presentation criteria: Eye Contact, Body Language, Poise, Subject Knowledge, Fluency, Pronunciation, and Comprehension. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, purposive sampling targeted one top-tier class as the sample population. Teachers' Excel assessment data were analyzed using TOPSIS through decision matrix formation, normalization, weighted normalization, ideal solution determination, distance calculation, and preference assessment. The results showed that Salsabil Hayitahe ranked first (V=0.65) and Muhammadsharif Seng last (V=0.36), proving the effectiveness of TOPSIS in providing transparent, bias-free ranking. The conclusions confirm the suitability of manual TOPSIS for multi-criteria educational evaluation, without software dependence, and recommend its wider application across various classes.

Abstract

The preservation of the Maudu Lompoa tradition in Cikoang Village, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, faces significant challenges due to economic mobility, population migration, and pressures from globalization during the 2019–2024 period. These socio-economic dynamics threaten the continuity of intangible cultural heritage, particularly in the transmission of intergenerational values and in community participation patterns. This study aims to examine (1) the forms of community adaptation in maintaining the Maudu Lompoa tradition, (2) the role of the tradition in strengthening cultural identity and social resilience, and (3) its socio-economic impacts on the Cikoang community during 2019–2024. This study employed a qualitative approach combining ethnographic and historical methods, applying the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, Sayyid groups, and non-Sayyid community members; participant observation of the ritual procession; and secondary documentary sources. Purposive and snowball sampling were used until data saturation was achieved, and the data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis and triangulation. The results reveal that the Cikoang community adapts through cross-generational value transmission and flexible symbolic participation—such as migrants contributing via remittances or family representatives. The tradition functions as a mechanism for collective identity formation through Islamic-local cultural syncretism and strengthens social resilience through mutual cooperation (gotong royong). Socio-economically, the tradition generates local economic turnover through ritual-related consumption and reinforces a values-based economic ethic grounded in spiritual blessings, sincerity, and communal solidarity. These findings indicate that tradition sustainability is achieved through dynamic cultural negotiation rather than rigid preservation, with implications for cultural tourism policy development in Takalar Regency.

Abstract

The integration of character education in elementary schools remains inconsistent despite the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly in semi-rural areas such as the Plered District. This study aims to analyze the effect of project-based Merdeka Curriculum implementation on the integration of character education among elementary school students. A quantitative research design with a survey approach was employed, involving 100 teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression to examine the relationship between curriculum implementation and the integration of character education. The results reveal a positive and significant effect of project-based Merdeka Curriculum implementation on character education integration (β = 0.625; p < 0.05), with R² = 0.422, indicating that 42.2% of the variance in character education integration is explained by curriculum implementation. These findings suggest that effective project-based learning enhances students’ internalization of responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and tolerance. The study highlights the strategic role of the Merdeka Curriculum in strengthening character education at the elementary level and provides empirical evidence from a semi-rural educational context.

Abstract

Implementing the Merdeka Curriculum requires elementary school teachers to develop comprehensive teaching modules independently; however, many teachers encounter substantial difficulties in meeting this demand. This study aims to analyze the difficulties elementary school teachers face in developing teaching modules for implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with six classroom teachers to explore their understanding, experiences, and actual obstacles in the module development process. The findings reveal that teachers experience difficulties in understanding the structure and components of teaching modules, formulating learning objectives aligned with Learning Outcomes and the Learning Objective Flow, designing student-centered learning activities, and developing authentic assessments. High administrative workloads, limited time, insufficient training, low digital literacy, and limited institutional support further exacerbate these challenges. The study concludes that strengthening teacher capacity, providing continuous professional development, and enhancing institutional support are essential to ensure that teaching modules effectively support learning in accordance with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Mathematical argumentation is important for developing students’ reasoning abilities. This study aims to analyze junior high school students’ written and oral argumentation abilities when solving reasoning tasks. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, involving 31 ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi. The study was conducted in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research instruments consisted of a mathematical reasoning test, interview protocols, and documentation. The mathematical reasoning test included three questions. The results of the tests and interviews were analyzed using the main components of Toulmin’s argumentation model, which consist of claims, data, warrants, backing, qualifiers, and rebuttals. Based on the test and interview results, students’ argumentation abilities were categorized into five levels, from Level 1 to Level 5. The findings show that 31 students (100%) reached Level 1, 15 (48.38%) reached Level 2, and 9 (29.03%) reached Level 3. No students reached Level 4 or Level 5. These findings indicate that students can construct claims, data, and warrants when solving mathematical reasoning tasks. However, students still need to be trained to develop backing, qualifiers, and rebuttals in order to complete the argumentation process appropriately in both written and oral forms.
