Abstract

The ecumenical movement is workded to create harmony within the Christians. Effort that can be done is to moderate through funeral sermons, because there are potential differences on the eschatology views, which is often used as funeral sermons content. This raises the urgency to formulate the ecumenical funeral sermons. Therefore, this research aimed to explore the experiences of preachers from various denominations, who have delivered funeral sermons, then look for common ground for funeral sermons content, where all Christian denominations can accept the content. This study uses qualitative method with structured literature study and phenomenology approaches by interviewing three servants of God who had preached in funeral ceremony, from Protestant/Lutheran, Evangelical, and Pentecostal denominations. The results in this study indicate that funeral sermons, as part of pastoral care, need to be prepared and thought out so that they contain messages of comforts and at the same time bring unity to all listeners. Funeral sermons that bring hope to listeners should be filled with biblical verses that inspire faith and keep them walking in the truth. The possible eschatological message to preach is about the existence of hell and heaven, which all Christians, and most of the world's religions, believe in.

Abstract

Easter is a very sacred holiday for Christians, but as time goes on there are other terms attached to this sacred holiday and not all of these terms give meaning to Easter, on the contrary, it has the potential to obscure its meaning. One of the terms referred to above is the term “Good Friday.” This term has been used for a long time and without realizing it has reduced and confused the true meaning of Easter so that Easter is only understood as an event of Christ's resurrection, while the event of Jesus' death is commemorated as "Good Friday." Thus, an effort is needed to clarify the concept and use of the term "Good Friday" today. The method used is the Typological method by analyzing the meaning of Easter in the text of Exodus 12:1- 42 to reveal the true meaning of Easter according to the Bible. The results of this study found that Easter should be commemorated from the event of death until the resurrection of Christ. Therefore, the meaning and celebration of Easter which is understood as an event of Christ's resurrection is a misconception and is not in accordance with the meaning of Easter as intended by the Bible. The use of the term 'Good Friday' by itself is unnecessary in today's Easter celebrations

Abstract

This article aims to understand the concept of the multicultural mission of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of John chapters 4:1-42 which can then be implemented in Christian religious education in Indonesia as a country with a multicultural society and culture. Using descriptive qualitative methods in a hermeneutic frame, the text of John 4:1-42 is explored to find the concept of multicultural theology in the mission carried out by Jesus Christ to Samaritan women. From the exposition of the text, it is found that the relevant mission formulation is implemented in multicultural Indonesian society, especially in Christian religious education. From this research, it was found that in the multicultural mission of Jesus Christ there are five aspects to be considered, namely relational, social, operational, moral and transformational aspects. Thus, the implementation of multicultural missions in today's PAK learning can be done by building warm relationships with students, understanding their social life, carrying out missions personally, shaping the morals and character of students and making disciples so that they can transform into true disciples of Christ

Abstract

This research is motivated by the encounter between the diversity of alternative conflict resolutions in Indonesia, ranging from state courts, customary courts, and church pastors, with Paul's criticism of the implementation of conflict resolution outside the church in Corinth. Therefore, the author aims to interpret Paul's criticism in 1 Corinthians 6:1-9a, so that it is not misinterpreted as a rejection of various alternative conflict resolutions in Indonesia. The author analyzes this text using a historical critical approach. The author assumes that the historical conditions in the writing of the epistle of 1 Corinthians is the motive for Paul’s criticism. At the end of this paper, the author finds that Paul's criticism in the text of 1 Corinthians 6:1-9a does not reject the existence of state and customary courts but seeks to summon the church to play a role in preventing, minimizing, and carrying out conflict resolution by implementing Christian values.

Abstract

Transwomen people need to be acknowledged and reached by the church. Transgender people need to be acknowledged and reached by the church. There is a bad stigma attached to them, for instance. Therefore, this paper aims to explain Jesus' counseling practices for Samaritan women and how they relate to transwomen's counseling needs. A qualitative method was used in this study, including literature analysis, narrative analysis of John 1:1-42, and phenomenology of RS sources (motivators of the transwomen prayer group). Based on the literature study and narrative research results, it appears Jesus counseled the Samaritan woman through several stages: acceptance, responding to rejection, recovery, evangelism, and being born again. According to the interview results, transwomen need counseling for acceptance, equal treatment, and religious freedom. Thus, it is concluded that Jesus' counseling praxis for Samaritan women in John 4:1-42 can be applied to transgender women. The counseling stages carried out by Jesus in the narrative can help transgender people receive acceptance, equality, and freedom of worship.

Abstract

Job is a picture of a godly man who experienced suffering. In his suffering, Job also received accusations from his friends that he had sinned so that God gave him suffering. Bildad was one of his friends who gave a strong rebuke to Job to seek and seek God's mercy. In achieving the objectives, this research uses qualitative research methods. The approach used is historical grammatical. Bildad's rebuke is based on the understanding of the ancient tradition that Suffering and sin are inseparable. Likewise with the other two friends, Eliphaz and Zophar, who saw Job's suffering more as a consequence of the sins he had committed. Unlike Job, who has the concept of God as a creative person with his works and is fully sovereign in human life. This difference is the basis of the long dialogue between Job and his friends.

Abstract

Since the beginning of the Pentecostal movement, the doctrine of tongues has been considered the most basic belief of the Pentecostals, as it is considered an early manifestation of the Spirit's Baptism (SB). Nevertheless, this doctrine began to fade away with the emergence of the Charismatic movement, which believed that other gifts could be the first signs of God's presence. As a result of this research, we intend to (1) demonstrate how speaking in tongue was the first evidence for SB in the Bible, (2) dig into the understanding of certain Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal theologians as to its significance, and (3) look into the experiences of ex-non-Pentecostal/Charismatic believers in experiencing the SB, in order to find out how tongues played a role in that experience. By utilizing qualitative methods with a structured literature review and phenomenology approaches to two informants, we were able to achieve these objectives. Tongues consistently function as early evidence of SB, according to the results of this study. As a result, tongues convince people who experience them or serve as an assurance for people who do not experience them to find out what SB is.
