Abstract

Samson was one of the judges who ruled Israel in the pre-monarchy era. He was called to carry out a mission, namely to start saving Israel from the Philistines. His personal uniqueness lay in his superpowers, apostolic status, and a fleshly controlled lifestyle. Not a few writers have observed it and concluded that its mission failed. However, did Samson really fail because his lifestyle was not ideal? This article proves that Samson's mission was not a failure even though his motivation and methods were not ideal, because there is God's intervention in it. Through the method of narrative literary exegesis which involves structural analysis, style analysis, editorial analysis, exegetical analysis and theological analysis, the fact is that Samson's mission was successful. The defeat of the Philistines and the fall of Dagon's temple in 16:23-31 has been stated implicitly in 16:1-3. The number of enemies killed is increased. This data shows that Samson's mission was a success.

Abstract

The increasing level of intolerance within the upper secondary education environment across five cities in Indonesia has emerged as a crucial issue, highlighting the urgent need for strengthening religious moderation. This article focuses on the problem of an inability to appreciate religious diversity and the readiness of students to defend their faith even to the extent of sacrificing lives. The emphasis lies in examining the influence of parents, the role of religious instructors, social surroundings, extracurricular organizations, and religious literature in shaping a perspective of tolerance. The research methodology employs a qualitative approach involving literature review, analysis of Biblical texts, and a comprehensive review of previous studies. Findings indicate that the Christian Ethics perspective forms a robust foundation for reinforcing religious moderation. Concrete strategies encompass regular consultations with parents, the role of instructors in inclusive education, extracurricular organization involvement, and the utilization of religious literature. Implementing evidence-based strategies with periodic evaluations is pivotal in ensuring sustained positive impacts within the educational setting. Overall, this article asserts that the Christian Ethics perspective provides a strong basis for promoting tolerance, interfaith cooperation, and appreciation of religious diversity in the pursuit of religious moderation within the educational environment.

Abstract

This article is motivated by the author's concern regarding the exploitation felt by women in various fields of life and not least in the field of leadership. Women are often only considered as tools in achieving certain goals. Therefore, this article aims to respond to the exploitation of women's leadership which was inspired by the leadership of Esther who contributed significantly in saving her nation through her wise attitude towards Mordecai. This article was studied using qualitative research methods combined with a hermeneutic approach to the book of Esther with data sourced from books, journals, articles and commentaries related to the topic. The results show that women's leadership is still often used as a tool of exploitation by other parties without giving women full freedom to act creatively in making decisions and implementing those decisions. However, Esther's role in saving her nation is proof that women have equal rights and roles in the world of leadership, and women can even be extraordinary tools in declaring big things. Esther proved that she could not only save her people, but also showed wisdom towards Mordecai. Reflecting on Esther's experience, women should be braver in making decisions and not depend on other parties to carry out their leadership.

Abstract

This text aims to present a theoretical study on Christian Education values rooted in the Bible, currently facing setbacks due to the integration of new normal regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research methodology employs a descriptive qualitative approach, incorporating a literature study with primary sources such as books, the Bible, scientific journals, and internet references for thorough analysis. Additionally, the study includes observations related to phenomena or events. The study concludes that implementing health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 presents challenges to the application of Christian education values. In the new normal, individuals are mandated to maintain distance, wear masks, avoid handshakes, and refrain from corporate worship in churches. However, this practice of social distancing impedes the expression of brotherly love and living in fellowship with church members to embody Christian values, particularly the concept of Koinonia. Consequently, the adoption of the new normal results in a setback in the application of Christian Education values.

Abstract

One of the common challenges faced by long-serving leaders, particularly those who are advanced in age, is post-power syndrome. The transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua presents a valuable model for contemporary Christian leaders to emulate in order to avoid this syndrome. This article aims to reflect on the text of Deuteronomy 31–34, which chronicles the concluding phase of Moses' leadership over the Israelites. Utilizing a literature study method, this research examines the text of Deuteronomy 31–34 through a thorough review of books, journal articles, and other relevant documents. The findings indicate that the narrative of Moses' leadership transition to Joshua offers practical guidance for preventing post-power syndrome. Key preventive measures include recognizing one's own limitations and adhering to divine directives, cultivating self-control and humility, prioritizing the welfare of others, and willingly transferring authority with prayer and a sincere blessing for the successor.

Abstract

The purposeof this study is to address the various impact if the “mukbang” phenomenon. “Mukbang” often leads to ethical breaches in eating, promotes unhealthy dietary habits, and results in significant food waste. Additionally, there is a troubling disparity, as Broadcast Jockey (BJ) squander food while many people face food shortages and hunger. To develop a proper understanding of eating, the author references 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. The research method used is tradition criticism, focusing on eating traditions in the Old and New Testament texts. The findings suggest that “mukbang” should be grounded in the essential purpose of food, which is to sustain life. This principle should underpin healthy eating habits and emphasize the importance of sharing food in “mukbang” broadcast.

Abstract

In the era of Society 5.0, where human and technological collaboration is increasingly intertwined to drive social progress, the effects on human life, particularly adolescents, have been profound. Adolescents, who are in a crucial transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, are naturally curious and vulnerable to both the positive and negative influences of this digital age. This research seeks to explore how Christian Religious Education and Abraham Maslow's concept of self-actualization impact the mental development of adolescents, as an effort to mitigate the negative effects of Society 5.0. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study draws from a range of literature, including e-books, e-journals, and other relevant sources on Christian Religious Education, self-actualization, and mental development. The findings of this research indicate that during this period of heightened curiosity and instability, adolescents are capable of discerning the teachings that should guide their lives and realizing their full potential. Christian Religious Education plays a significant role in fostering mental health among adolescents, while self-actualization is equally critical in helping them maintain mental well-being as they navigate the challenges of Society 5.0.

Abstract

Generation Z shows strong characteristics of individualism, reflected in their high freedom of speech, strong self-autonomy, and tendency to live self-centered lives. They typically dislike being hindered and are accustomed to doing everything themselves to achieve their personal goals. This research aims to explore how individualism influences the spiritual growth of Generation Z. Research using a qualitative approach with literature review methods reveals that Generation Z tends to view religion or church as something more personal and less relevant in their daily lives. Negative stereotypes about the church arise due to their perception that their freedom of speech is hindered, leading to feelings of spiritual and religious oppression. To address these challenges, churches need to adopt approaches that meet the needs of Generation Z. Based on the results of the literature review analysis, it appears that through mentoring and building healthy communities, churches can create environments that support Generation Z in developing their own spirituality.

Abstract

Fundamentally, music as a performance exhibits two characteristics: musical and extra-musical. These two elements are interconnected, complementary, and inseparable. Musical elements cannot be fully understood without considering the surrounding aspects, which lie outside the music itself. This dual nature also applies to church music. However, music used in and for worship is also a performance. This research examines the presence of these two characteristics in musical performances during Christian worship. Through Marco DeMarinis' semiotic theory, these two characteristics are manifested in the relationship between text, co-text, and context. The study's findings demonstrate that musical elements are no more important than extra-musical elements because in Christian worship, the Word is the ultimate objective of a liturgy: Without music, Christian worship can still occur, but without the Word, worship cannot be conducted.
