Abstract

This  research  is  designed  to  analyze  students’  error  on  essay  writing organization.  The  writers  focus  on  the  one  category  of  error  identifications  that  is organization.  By  conducting  this  research,  the  writers  hope  some  development  of students’ ability in arranging essay.  By  analazing  the  erros,  students  get  feed  back  to develop their ability. This study was conducted descriptively and qualitatively in nature. It is designed to identify and to describe kinds of errors is made by the student in essay writing organization in the EFL classroom. To achieve the goal, the writers describe in detail all the data taken from the students’ works and interpreted to make an empirical generalization. This  research  was conducted  in  second  grade  of English  department  in one of the university in Cirebon. The writers use purposive random sampling. The result of  findings  show  that  16  students  stand  in  scale  3  which  is  equal  with  64  %.  Then,  7 students  stand  in  scale  4  which  is  equal  with  28  %.  And  the  last,  2  students  stand  in scale  2  which  is  equal  with  8  %.  So  that,  the  writer  concluded  that  the  students  of second  grade  of  UNSWAGATI  Cirebon  are  adequate  to  fair  on  essay  writing organization.

Abstract

This study is about student teachers' basic teaching skills especially in delivering gaining attention, presenting stimulus materials, and assessing performance. The purpose of this study is to find out whether or not student teachers' skill in gaining attention, presenting stimulus materials, and assessing performance was developed during their teaching practice period. To achieve the first purpose, the data were collected through observations and interviews. The observation was conducted during student teachers' teaching-learning sessions. The interview was conducted to support the data from interview. The source for interview was student teachers' mentor teachers. The result of this study was that two of four student teachers had developed their teaching skills in gaining attention while the other two did not develop their skills. This study has showed that besides students' ability, willingness, and support from mentor teachers abd peers are needed to develop their teaching skills.

Abstract

The result of this study may add to the research literature refrences and add insight to the reader about the image women with the feminism literature review.This research is expected to give contribution to this language teaching using novel as the authentic media, particularly in teaching reading. Novel is narrative text informing of prose with a long shape that including some figures and fiction event. In this case, the study attempted to analyze text about Cultural feminism tht contains in the novel. The text analyzed is a novel entitled The Bookseller of Kabul written by Asne Seierstad, a Norway journalist who spent four months to write the novel after reporting civil war in Afghanistan. This novel mostly describes the portrayal of women in the context of gender relation in Afghanistan after the fall of Taliban, around 2001s.

Abstract

Currently, studies on English for Tourism course mainly focuses on need analysis and material development. A few studies highlight the teaching methods for successful learning of the course. This study discusses the implementation of virtual exhibition simulation as a project based learning in the course of English for Tourism enrolled by students of tertiary education majoring English Literature. It aims at revealing the learning process as well as revealing the opportunities and challenges of the activity. Five lecturers are selected as the subject of the study. The data collected through semi structured interview and further qualitatively analysed by seeing the common and unique features. The findings suggest that the implementation of virtual exhibition project should be followed by lecturers teaching strategies in the step of preparation, rehearsal and exhibition in order to achieve learning objectives. Despite the technical challenge on internet connection and students reluctance that lecturers should cope with, this activity is seen as an alternative method that reflect contextual learning and give students English learning opportunity through intensive interaction and creativity.

Abstract

The goals of this research are (1) to know what students’ responses toward WH question tehnique; (2) to know whether the WH Question can improve students’ math in English. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The writer described and analyzed the students’ mistakes in speaking skill using local materials. The research was carried out at the first year students of math department in 2016/2017 academic year. It was strated from September 2016 to January 2017. The population was the first semester students of math department in academic year of 2016/2017. The number of population were 21 students. The results of this research were (1) the tudents gave good responses toward the WH Questions learning, and (2) the WH questions improved the Math students’ ability in learning English. Keywords: Speaking, Local-wisdom, WH-questions

Abstract

The role of teachers in learning is central. It greatly influences the success and the quality of learning process. Yet, it remains lack of evidences in some areas such as diminishing the learners' learning automony. Lamguage learners are positioned lower than the teachers. In decentralized learning, teachers are facilitators. As the result of this point of views, the learners are less appreciated for their imperfect learning behaviours for some reasons regarding for their potentials. Thus, this article is to criticize and to elaborate the evidences of teacher-centred learning and teacher-controlled learning in postmodernism paradigm and the realities in Indonesian efl perspectives which emphasizes on the main actors in learning and the power of learning. Yet, there is no absolute truth in terms of power in learning.

Abstract

Pronunciation is the production of speech sounds for communication. It is the most difficult area of English. This study was conducted under the consideration that pronouncing English words plays an important role. Because of the differences between English and Indonesian pronunciation, many students pronounce English words incorrectly. Data from the Phonetic of English and the rule of how to pronounce English words has been crucial in the development of Phonetics theory throughout its recent past. Explaining the use of English song can increase the pronunciation ability to the students of Unswagati Cirebon in question.

Abstract

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.

Abstract

Language development is always influenced by economic, social, politic, culture and science. The influencing between languages appears in the form of using words or phrases interchangeably in both oral and written form.Interference is caused by speaker bilingualism background, disloyalty to target language, the limited vocabularies of TL mastered by a learner, Need of synonym, Prestige and style.Interference can be a negative type of language transfer, like the use of a native-language pattern or role which leads to an error or inappropriate form in the target language. In the other hand, it is also positive transfer, as it makes the learning easier, and may occur when both native language and the target language have similar form. Abstract

Online learning is a teaching and learning activity using the internet network. This is the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, which requires educators and students to carry out the teaching and learning process remotely with the aim of reducing the risk of spreading the virus from interactions in the classroom. In line with this situation, Vocabulary Notebook is a strategy that can be used by teachers in carrying out online teaching and learning activities, especially in mastering English vocabulary for EFL students. In order to see the effect of using Vocabulary Notebook on EFL students' English vocabulary, the researchers conducted this study with the aim to know the impact of Vocabulary Notebook on EFLs tudents' vocabulary mastery during online learning. In this study, researchers have applied an experimental research method with a posttest only control group design. The population in this study was 84 EFL students where the researcher divided the 84 students into two groups as the sample, group A was 27 students as the experimental group, and group B was 27 students as the control group. Thus, the number of samples in this study was 54 students. Based on the findings, the average score of the experimental group was higher than the control group, where the average score of the experimental group was 65,926 while the average score of the control group was 56,741. Furthermore, based on data analysis, it is found that the t-test score was 2.607 which is higher than the t-table (1.675). It can be concluded that Vocabulary Notebook has positive results on EFL students' vocabulary mastery during online learning.
