Abstract

The low interest of students choosing social studies majors (IPS) at the National High School is thought to be a problem that originates from within students and outside the student's self. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence students' interest in choosing a social studies major at SMA 2 Tambang, in Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The population in this study were all students of class XI IPS, amounting to 170 people. The sample was determined using propotional random sampling to obtain 119 people. The data analysis technique used is Path Analysis. The results of the analysis show that the family environment and school environment have a positive and significant effect on the ideals of choosing an IPS major. School ideals and environment have a positive and significant effect on the interest in choosing an IPS major. While the family environment has a significant effect on the interest in choosing an IPS major. However, there is a negative influence of the family environment on the interest of students choosing social studies majors, due to the low level of family education. Therefore parents are expected to be able to provide support so that their children are more interested in choosing social studies majors. The school is expected to further improve socialization to add information and provide an overview to students about social studies majors.

Abstract

The low mathematics learning outcomes can be an indicator of student difficulty in learning mathematics. This study aims to analyze the influence of the application of the cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) type to the results of mathematics learning. This research used quasi-experimental research with sampling using stratified techniques and random sampling. The population was seventh grade students at SMP 17 Pekanbaru, SMP 12Pekanbaru, dan SMP 36 Pekanbaru. The instrument of this research was a daily test on the quadrilateral and triangle material to see student learning outcomes before being given treatment and after being given treatment. Statistical analysis was performed by Normality, Homogeneity Test, Independent Sample t-test, One Path Anova test, Two Path Anova Test. From the results of the collation test results obtained that p = 0.4425 and p = 0.4005, Ho is accepted, so there is no difference between the experimental class and the control class as well as the high school there is no difference, but the students' mathematics learning outcomes are reviewed from the level there are differences in the middle and lower schools. Generally, TPS learning is good at medium and low schools because in the learning process students still want to share knowledge with other students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of learning with a scientific approach in the STAD-based cooperative model lesson study of learning outcomes in mathematics. This research is a quasi-experimental study. The study population was junior high school students in Rokan Hilir Regency which were divided into three school levels; upper level, medium level and lower level. The research sample was taken randomly (clustering random sampling). Each sample contained an experimental class and a control class. The research instruments were learning devices and instruments for collecting data. The design of hypothesis testing of student learning outcomes in the form of pretest and posttest data analysis through statistical tests. The data was analyzed using integrated statistical tests. The results showe that student learning outcomes in the experimental class were better than the control class for each level. There are differences in student learning outcomes in the experimental class viewed from the school level, and learning with a scientific approach in cooperative type STAD-based lesson study is effective in terms of student learning outcomes. The conclusion is that the learning with the scientific approach in the STAD-based cooperative model is effective.

Abstract

Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) has eroded globally, particularly which related to ecology. Even though TEK has been recognized as crucial for a sustainable development perspective. This study aims to explore TEK of Orang Suku Laut (OSL) Konky Strait in Lingga about the utilization of mangrove ecosystem. Research area is Konky Strait which is a part of Lingga Regency, Riau Archipelago Province. Data was collecting by using document study, field study, in-depth interviews, meetings and group interviews, participatory and non- participatory observation techniques. There are at least eight species of flora and 17 species of fauna that are known by OSL in Konky Strait. Taxonomically, flora which has been utilized are classified in 6 families, while fauna consist of 15 families. The types of flora are generally utilized for firewood, building materials, fisheries infrastructure (fishing gear) and traditional medicine for health. While the whole fauna species used as food sources. Almost all mangrove flora parts are used such as trunk, branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, shoots, and roots. It can be concluded that Orang Suku Laut Konky Strait have traditional ecological knowledge in the management of mangrove ecosystems in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Becoming a successful student is a dream of every student and parents. Learning style is one of things that might influence that success. This research intended to find out if there is a correlation between learning styles and learning achievement of students of FKIP Universitas Riau in learning English. 300 students were involved as the sample of the research. The research was conducted during the even semester academic year 2018-2019 and the research data was collected in June 2019. The instruments of the research were adapted from Vark Questionnaire Version8.01 and students’ grades in their English class.Percentage and mean used to represent the frequency ofdata for descriptive analysis and inferential analysis was carried out. Since the data of students’ learning style and learning achievement obtained were not normally distributed, associative Kendall’s Tau-c correlation formula was used to find out the relationship between learning style and learning achievement. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the students learning style and their learning achievement.

Abstract

The problem that is often found in the field is that poorly trained students thinking critically because learning is still teacher-centered. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using inquiry-based handouts on students critical thinking abilities. The design of this study was experimental design with pretest and posttest group control design methods. It was by looking at the students ability to answer the pretest and posttest question sheets that contain critical thinking indicators such as analyzing, synthesizing, connecting, concluding, evaluating, and creating. The results of this study show that the students critical thinking skills for the group given the handout showed that they met good criteria, that is the average score above 75. Meanwhile, students critical thinking skills in the class or group of students who were not given handouts were still not more than 50. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the handouts used can help students in training critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the still limited teaching materials or learning tools that facilitate students in enriching experiences, developing knowledge and activeness of students, and supporting students to formulate their own discoveries. The limitations of these learning tools will certainly affect the quality of learning, especially in chemistry learning. The purpose of this study is to develop a guided inquiry-based chemical handout on a valid buffer solution based on aspects of content suitability, language worthiness, presentation worthiness and graphic worthiness. The research design used research and development design with a 4-D development model. The 4- D development model has four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. This research was carried out until the development stage and followed by limited trials. Data collection techniques was in the form of validation sheets and questionnaire responses of teachers and students. Data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results show an average percentage rating of three experts at 93% with a valid category. The results of trials to teachers and students each obtained an average percentage score of 94% and 86%. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the guided inquiry-based chemical handout on buffer solution material for SMA is valid and good for a learning handout.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low both Mathematical Problem Solving Ability (KPMM) and Mathematical Disposition (DM) in solving problems of grade VII MTs students. This study aims to see an increase in KPMM and DM MTs students in Kuantan Singingi Regency. The form of research was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The population of the study was MTs students in Kuantan Singingi District with the sample being Grade VII students from 3 MTs in Kuansing. Data collection instruments in this study were KPMM tests and DM questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t-test, Mann- Whitney U test, one-way Anova. The results obtained were an increase in KPMM for students who treated with Think Talk Write (TTW) strategies in cooperative learning. They were higher than students who obtained learning with a scientific approach (g_TTW = 0.75> 0.61 = g_PS). So it appears that the increase in KPMM and DM students who get the TTW Strategy in Cooperative Learning is higher than students who get learning with a scientific approach.
