Abstract

Improving the quality of education can take advantage of technology that is currently increasingly advanced. The expected result, the education world is no longer awkward in using technology to improve its quality. One of the lessons that requires learning media technology is chemistry. This study aims to develop interactive learning media using Autoplay Studio 8 for Hydrocarbon material and conducting some tests to determine the response of educators and students as well. The media created were tested, including testing the feasibility based on expert validation and the responses of educators and students to the developed media. The research method used in the development of instructional media that used a research and development (R&D) approach. Overall the interactive learning media Autoplay Studio 8 developed was declared valid by a validator consisting of three material experts and three media experts with an average percentage value of media experts being 94.15%, and an average percentage of material experts 93 7%. The response of chemistry teachers and students with an average percentage score was 94.6% and 92.33% categorized as very practical. It can be concluded that media is ready to use in the real learning process.

Abstract

Problem solving ability is a very important ability possessed by students in solving school mathematics problems. The purpose of this study is to determine the mathematical problem solving ability of students who use the Search, Solve, Create and Share (SSCS) learning model and the students who study with conventional learning. This research was a quasi-experimental study with a non equivalent control group design. The subjects in this study were all Kampar Junior High School students. The analysis technique used was the One-Way Anova Test and Two-Way Anova Test. The results showed the mathematical problem solving ability of students who learned to use the SSCS model was better than students who learned to use conventional learning models. However, there is no interaction observed between SSCS learning model and students mathematical problem solving ability (KPMM) level on students' mathematical problem solving abilities in Kampar Regency

Abstract

This study investigated senior secondary school students’ motivation to learning mathematics and gender as correlates of performance in mathematics. The sample consisted of 315 students from two government senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria using the quantitative research method within the blueprint of the descriptive survey research design. Data collected were analysed using percentages, means, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) and standard and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis. Findings from the study revealed that there was a very high level of motivation to learn mathematics among senior secondary schools’ students in Nigeria. There was a significant influence of gender on students’ performance in mathematics but not on motivation to learn mathematics. It was also revealed that self-efficacy, gender and intrinsic motivation were the major significant predictors of performance in mathematics among the sample studied. Based on these findings, future studies in Nigeria should attempt to investigate the psychometric properties of the motivation to learn mathematics scale

Abstract

Students creative thinking skills play an important role in achieving educational goals, especially in understanding chemical material. Education is currently focused on developing Higher Order Thinking Skills and creative thinking skills that are one of the highest level of thinking. The teacher as one of the creative drivers is an important factor to increase student creativity in school. This study aims to develop creative thinking assessment instruments with problem posing methods on acid-base material and conduct tests to determine the responses of educators and students. This research used the Research and Development method which refers to the Borg and Gall model. The sample in this study amounted to 60 class XI high school students in Rokan Hulu district. The results of the validation of the assessment instruments were in average of more than 0.78 (very good) and had a test reliability on the main field test of 0.88 which was classified as very high. The level of difficulty ranged from 0.29 - 0.56 with the category of difficult and moderate. The ability to differentiate the problem is good enough. And the results of student responses amounted to 50.4 on the questionability readiness questionnaire, 8.1 on the questionnaire for sufficient time. Whereas the result of the teacher's response was 57.3 on the question eligibility questionnaire.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the increase in students critical thinking skills after using e-modules oriented towards scientific literacy. This research is a quasi-experimental study using the Design Randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest. The research sample consisted of 2 classes, namely class XI MIA 8 and XI MIA 10. The analysis results using the independent sample t-test obtained that a significance value of 0.026 <0.05. The results of the analysis of critical thinking skills test data using the N-gain score test for the experimental class obtained a value of 77.2% including the very high category. While the average N-gain score for the control class obtained a value of 55.2% included in the medium category. It can be concluded that there are significant differences in students critical thinking skills in the experimental class with the control class.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding is a very important ability possessed by students in solving mathematical problems. The purpose of this study is to find out the improvement in students mathematical understanding using discovery learning models. This research was a quasi-experimental study with a non equivalent control group design. The samples in this study were SMAN 1 Bangkinang, SMAN 1 XIII Koto Kampar and SMAN 2 Koto Kampar Hulu taken by purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique used was the t test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed an increase in mathematical understanding of students learning using discovery learning models is better than students learning to use conventional learning models at the top level of school, medium and as a whole, but at the lower level schools have not increased.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of Mathematical Problem Solving (KPMM) of students. In order to improve KPMM, teachers can do designing the learning process. This study aims to develop mathematical learning tools that are valid, practical and effective. The development model used the Borg and Gall model. The research instrument consisted of syllabus validation sheets, lesson plane (RPP), student worksheet (LKPD), observability of implementation, student questionnaire responses and KPMM test instruments. The result shows the mathematics learning kit using the PBL model was already valid which is for the syllabus was 85.41%, RPP was 85.11%, LKPD was 88.67% and the test instrument was 81.71%. The learning kit fulfills the practicality requirements in large group trials with an average questionnaire of students responses of 91.99% and an average of 94.58%. Effective mathematics learning tools is to improve KPMM of students with student learning outcomes that is based on the achievement of KKM with the percentage of completeness reached is 88.24%. Development of learning tools can significantly improve students mathematical problem solving abilities at a significant level of P = 0,000 with α = 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the development of mathematics learning tools by applying problem based learning can improve students mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

The K13 Curriculum requires students thinking skills, especially in the regulation of cognition which consists of planning, information management strategies, monitoring, examination of actions, and evaluation. This study aims to look at the metacognitive abilities of class X students of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru on the concept of environmental pollution through mind mapping with problem based learning models. This type of research was a quasi experiment using two classes, one class as an experimental class and one class as a control class. The experimental class used mind mapping models of problem based learning and the control class used conventional learning. The research design used a pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection techniques used questionnaires metacognitive abilities and description test questions. The analysis technique used the Anova test analysis. The results of the pretest and posttest showed a significant increase in students metacognitive abilities through mind mapping with the problem based learning model of the concept of environmental pollution at SMAN 7 Pekanbaru with a significance value of 0,000. Sig. (0,000) < then H0 is rejected, so it can be concluded that the metacognitive abilities of students are increased through mind mapping with problem based learning models on the concept of environmental pollution.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of learning journals with Problem Based Learning (PBL) models on the metacognitive abilities of class X students of SMAN on environmental pollution material. This type of research was quasi-experimental research. The study population was all students of class X SMAN as a hypothetical population. The research sample consisted of 72 students consisting of 36 students in class X MIPA 2 as an experimental class and 36 students in class X MIPA 5 as a control class. Data collection used questionnaires and description problems. Validation used in the form of content validation and empirical validation. The analysis technique used the One Way Anova test analysis. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion show that the use of learning journals with problem based learning models has a very significant effect on students metacognitive abilities in biology learning at SMAN 2 Pekanbaru. The magnitude of the value of the analysis of the average score of the metacognitive abilities of the experimental class in the very good category is 125.53 while in the control class in the good category is 107.43. This shows the metacognitive ability of students who follow the use of learning journals with problem based learning models is better than students who follow conventional learning.

Abstract

Pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) is the essential need of teaching and every teacher had to prioritized it for their teaching preparation. For early childhood education teacher, it is not only about knowledge of curriculum, instructional strategies and content, but also knowledge of students understanding. Teachers need to pay attention for all aspect in learning activities. With the awareness of PCK, teacher will have good performance while teaching and it will affect children understanding towards the subject. This research use descriptive quantitative methode to describe pedagogical content knowledge of 135 early childhood education teacher’s in Pekanbaru City that has been chosen by purposive sampling technique. Data collection and processing using google form. From four indicators of PCK, knowledge of student understanding score is the highest at 3,25, knowledge of instructional strategies score is 3,15, content knowledge score is 3.07 and knowledge of curriculum is the lowest with score 2,89. Emphaty and the ability to understand children comprehension in learning is pivotal for early childhood teacher. Young children don’t always express thought and emotion verbally, so teacher should also observed non verbal language and be thoughtful in order to help them understanding the subject. Early childhood teacher should gain more practiced and learn to enhance their knowledge of curriculum.
