Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the types of deixis and analysis the function of deixis. Data were taken from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Movie Script. The theory that was applied in this study was proposed by Levinson. Documentation method and note-taking technique used in collecting the data. The collected data was analysed by using a descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, in presenting the data analysis, this study used an informal method. The result shows that all the types of deixis and its function based on the theory by Levinson are found in the data source.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Reproductive Health and Patriarchal Culture in the Novel Bulan Patah by Maria Maltidis Banda". The purpose of this study was to determine the structural elements which include grooves; characterizations; and setting, to reveal aspects of reproductive health in a patriarchal culture in the novel Bulan Patah by Maria Matildis Banda, and to reveal the meaning of filial piety in the novel Bulan Patah. The theory used in this research is the theory of structure and the theory of sociology of literature which includes reproductive health and public health. This study uses qualitative data. The data collection method used is the literature study method. The process of data analysis used the descriptive qualitative method. The data sources of this research are primary data and secondary data. The results of this study, namely the plot in the novel Bulan Patah are divided into three stages, namely the initial, middle, and final stages. The main character in this novel is Midwife Rosa Dalima, while the secondary character is Om Saver. The complementary characters in this novel are Rachel and Retha. The setting in this novel is the setting of the place, setting of time, and setting of atmosphere. In this study, it was found that the aspects of reproductive health were weak without the treatment of a doctor or midwife, and weak physical and social conditions, due to the influence of patriarchal culture in Bulan Patah Novel. In addition, this study also found that the role of Midwife Rosa Dalima in the novel Bulan Patah was related to the meaning of filial piety for health development.

Abstract

"Temporal Deictic Expressions in the Song Lyrics of Pale Waves’ "My Mind Makes Noises" Album" is the title of this article. This article focused on temporal deictic expressions in "My Mind Makes Noises" song lyrics that have official music videos. This article had two aims: first, to identify the temporal deictic expressions in the album's song lyrics; and second, to explain and analyze the deictic usages of the album's temporal deictic expressions. This article used a qualitative method and content analysis technique to analyze the data, with Huang's pragmatics theory as the grand theory and Halliday's context of situation theory as the supporting theory. The data for this article was gathered through the use of documentation and note-taking method and technique. This article used an informal method and descriptive technique to present the analysis, which means the results were presented in the form of descriptive words and sentences. There were six temporal deictic expressions analyzed in this article, which were then categorized into three categories based on the time of the event using pragmatics method, the context of the situation, and then the deictic usage of each temporal deictic expression. This article demonstrated that gestural deictic usage offers a clearer identification of the time of the event in temporal deictic expression, as well as an easier understanding of the context of situation.

Abstract

The topic in this article is “Code mixing in Instagram TV “Haipuja”. The background of this research is, in the Instagram TV video "Haipuja" there is the use of code mixing in it, both the insertion of regional languages ??into the use of Indonesian and the insertion of foreign languages ??into the use of Indonesian. The research on code mixing on Instagram TV “Haipuja” has never been done before. In this study, there are three problems discussed, namely code mixing based on the origin of the absorption elements, code mixing at the linguistic level, and the factors causing code mixing. The purpose of this study is to determine the use of code mixing, as well as the factors that cause code mixing. Qualitative descriptive research is presented in the form of data descriptions. Data collection methods are supported by note-taking techniques and the results of data analysis are presented in an informal form. The results of this study were found code mixing based on the original absorption element, code mixing seen from the linguistic level, and the factors causing code mixing on Instagram TV “Haipuja”.

Abstract

This study was aimed to finding and discuss about the affection of the change of gender in terms of language features used by Einar Wegener with masculine gender and after changing gender into Lili Elbe with feminine gender. The frequency of use of each language feature reduced by 31 in Einar's data and 29 in Lili's data, according to a comparative analysis of the affection of men-to-women identity transformation. As a result, the language features of transgender woman, Lili Elbe, were found to dominantly use women's language features, despite the fact that three of the five features used men's language features. Hence, it was proven that Lili Elbe's transformation from a man to a woman had influence on her language features, which was followed by a change in gender from masculine to feminine due to the influence of an environment dominated by women and influenced by feminine topics of conversation.

Abstract

Puja Astawa is one of Balinese famous YouTube content creators. His videos display interactions, mostly informal ones, and they are favored by the Balinese not only due to the humor contains in the videos, but also because of the moral values and the messages conveyed in the video. Puja Astawa often raised current issues in the society as the topics for his videos. It makes the interactions displayed in the video real-life like and reflects the real life of a Balinese. Due to this real-life likeness, his videos are interesting to be discussed further, especially in linguistics points of view. This study was conducted in order to identify and analyze the type of participation framework reflected in social interactions in the videos. In order to achieve the aim of the study, this qualitative study selected thirteen Puja Astawa’s videos as the source of the data. Those videos are selected based on several criteria, namely (1) the video was uploaded in 2021 until June 2022, (2) the duration of the video is more than four minutes, and (3) there are more than two participants in the video. In collecting the data, documentation method and note taking technique were utilized. The collected data were then analyses based on participation framework theory which is proposed by Goffman. The result of the analysis shows that the utterance uttered by the participants in the videos reflects the participation framework. All of the participants are the animator of their utterance. However, not all of the participants are the author, figure or the principal of their utterance. There are many things that may contribute to this finding, one of them in the nature of the video which is a scripted interaction

Abstract

This research aims to describe (1) the structure that built Sdavincii's novel Corona; and (2) sociological aspects contained in Sdavincii’s novel Corona. The theories used in this study are the structural theory of Nurgiyantoro and the literary sociology of Sapardi Djoko Damono. The method used to collect data is a library study method with advanced techniques in the form of reading, listening, and recording techniques. Then to analyze the data used analytical descriptive methods are done by taking problems or focusing on problems as they were when the research was done. The results of this study showed that the intrinsic elements analyzed in Sdavincii’s novel Corona include: characterization, plot and setting. The political aspect contained in Corona novel, is the problem of political conspiracy. The health aspect is about corona. The economic aspect reveals the economic differences between Aragon and the Catalans. The moral aspect addresses moral issue of good morals. The family aspect talks about the Lago family and Ella's family and the true relationship between Lago and Ella.

Abstract

In this study, a novel Kawi Matin di Negeri Anjing by Arafat Nur is discussed. This study aims to describe the structure of the novel and the hegemony of the ruling class’s that found in the novel Kawi Matin di Negeri Anjing. The theory that been used is structural theory to analyze the plot, characters, and setting. The theory of hegemony of the ruling class is used to analyze hegemonic forms and the process of hegemony. The method that used to collect data is literature study with reading, listening, and note-taking techniques. Then, to analyze the data used descriptive analytical method by describing the result of data analysis that has been done. Structurally, the plot of novel Kawi Matin di Negeri Anjing contains the initial, middle, and final stages. The setting of place, time, and social support the formation of characters and the course of the story. The elements of plot, characters, and settings are having a relation that is interrelated with each other. The interrelation between these elements represents the hegemony of ruling class. Hegemony of ruling class contained in this novel is divided into three processes, such as cause, implementation, and effect. These three processes are found in the events that occur, such as rape, violence, murder, and sedition.
