Abstract

Low levels of financial literacy are a problem in managing business finances and utilizing cooperatives to promote economic independence in urban communities. This community service program aims to improve economic literacy and financial behavior in the Kalitan community, Surakarta City, through a structured, participatory training model involving local cooperatives as strategic partners. The program is divided into three main stages: case study-based economic literacy training, business financial management simulations, and technical guidance on using cooperative services. This program significantly improved participants' understanding of financial planning, economic decision-making, and the role of cooperatives in supporting micro-enterprises. Furthermore, this activity also encouraged changes in financial behavior toward more rationality and strengthened trust in community financial institutions. This program serves as an effective model for inclusive economic learning, particularly in urban areas with existing limitations. The program's results demonstrate the important role of cooperatives as agents of community-based economic education and empowerment. The program's novelty combines an experiential learning approach with institutional strengthening of cooperatives within a grassroots economic empowerment framework, a concept rarely explored in Indonesian community service literature

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance financial literacy and promote effective financial management strategies among civil servants (ASN) to achieve sustainable well-being. Despite having relatively stable income sources, many ASN still face financial challenges due to limited financial planning, consumptive behaviour, and lack of understanding of investment and risk management. The program employed an educational and participatory approach through training sessions, discussions, and practical exercises on budgeting, cash flow management, debt control, and basic investment planning. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of personal financial management, particularly in prioritizing needs over wants, preparing structured financial plans, and recognizing the importance of emergency funds and financial protection. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness of long-term financial goals, including retirement planning. Behavioural changes were observed in the form of improved financial discipline, such as routine expense recording and consistent saving habits. However, challenges remain, including limited time for implementation and the persistence of consumptive patterns. Therefore, continuous mentoring and the integration of digital financial tools are recommended to ensure sustainability. Overall, this program contributes to fostering financially responsible behaviour among ASN, supporting their long-term welfare and professional performance.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the capacity of local business actors in utilizing WhatsApp Business and developing digital customer service standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Melung Village, Kedungbanteng District, Banyumas Regency. The participants consisted of 20 individuals representing micro and small enterprises, homestay managers, tourism awareness groups, village-owned enterprise managers, and youth involved in business communication and customer service. The program was implemented through community education, training, hands-on practice, and brief mentoring conducted in a one-day session. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test, observation, and documentation of activity outputs. The results showed an increase in participants’ average score from 52.7 in the pre-test to 82.1 in the post-test. In addition, 18 participants successfully organized their WhatsApp Business profiles, 17 created product or service catalogs, 16 prepared quick replies, and 15 developed greeting and automated messages. The activity also produced five group-based digital customer service SOP documents. These findings indicate that a practical one-day training program can effectively strengthen participants’ knowledge and initial skills in digital customer service while supporting more professional communication practices for local businesses and village tourism services.

Abstract

Jatibatur Village, Gemolong District, Sragen Regency, has significant economic potential, particularly through MSME activities in the trade, culinary, and service sectors. However, most transactions are still conducted in cash, which potentially poses security risks, limited financial record keeping, and is inefficient on a business scale. In this context, through this community service activity, the Jatibatur Village community is provided with outreach and assistance regarding simple financial record keeping as well as training on the use of the ORIS application. It is hoped that this activity will improve financial literacy, expand the use of digital transactions, and support the acceleration of the digitalization of the village economy as initiated by the government. The implemented strategies include Initial Problem Identification by conducting discussions and interviews with the community and MSMEs in Jatibatur Village to identify the main obstacles in financial management and the implementation of digital transactions through ORIS. Financial literacy outreach and counseling by providing education on the importance of simple financial record keeping, cash flow management, and the benefits of non-cash transactions. This strategy aims to increase public awareness of the importance of financial management for business sustainability. Technical training on the use of ORIS, individual and group mentoring, periodic monitoring and evaluation, and finally collaboration with the village government and financial partners. In general, the results of the activities show that the participatory mentoring strategy is effective in improving financial literacy and digital skills in the community.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the Indonesian economy, yet they often face challenges related to financial literacy and limited access to sustainable financial strategies. This community service program aims to improve digital investment literacy and strengthen investment intentions among MSME owners through a structured training and mentoring approach. The program involved MSMEs under the auspices of BMT Mazaya and was implemented using a participatory empowerment method that integrated educational sessions, interactive discussions, practical simulations, and behavioral reinforcement based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. The results showed that the program effectively improved participants' understanding of digital investment concepts and increased their interest in engaging in formal financial instruments. This intervention also contributed to strengthening participants' attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms toward investment activities. Specifically, participants demonstrated greater awareness and confidence in exploring stock investment opportunities on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Furthermore, the integration of mentoring as a follow-up strategy played a key role in bridging the gap between financial knowledge and actual behavioral intentions. These findings highlight that literacy programs combined with ongoing support are more effective in promoting sustainable financial behavior among MSMEs. Overall, this program contributes to improving financial resilience and supporting the long-term sustainability of MSMEs by increasing investment literacy

Abstract

Schools and cultural heritage need to be strengthened in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including through cultural preservation and cultural heritage management. This community service activity in Brumbung Village aims to increase literacy awareness and make a positive contribution to the development of education and the preservation of local cultural heritage. By applying the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, this program utilizes local assets such as the Patirtan Geneng Site, the Brumbung Small Museum, and basic education institutions. A series of activities were carried out, including clean-up actions of cultural heritage sites and museums, teaching and socialization of culture-based curriculum, socialization of cultural heritage preservation, and Wayang Kulit performances. The results show a significant increase in people's awareness and knowledge, which has an impact on changing their attitudes and behaviors towards cultural heritage. This activity also strengthens the understanding that cultural preservation is the collective responsibility of the community, not just the government or formal institutions. Thus, this program becomes an effective model for local asset-based community empowerment in order to support sustainable education and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population globally and has over 40,000 Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). However, most of these schools face challenges in financial management and economic sustainability. This study, however, examines the strategic role of Islamic boarding schools in providing Islamic education to the community. This study conducted an economic empowerment program for Islamic boarding schools through hydroponic entrepreneurship training to strengthen their economic resilience. The program was implemented at Islamic boarding schools in Klaten using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. This approach emphasizes the importance of local assets and active participant involvement. The program consisted of four stages: needs assessment, participatory planning, entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and outcome evaluation. These activities were supported by observation, interviews, and participant evaluation methods to adjust the community service program. Findings indicate an increase in students' entrepreneurial knowledge, technical skills, and economic awareness after participating in the program. The learning provided hands-on experience in hydroponic practices, increasing engagement and facilitating the development of entrepreneurial competencies. Mentoring ensured the program met its targets and determined its sustainability. The results of this study highlight that integrating entrepreneurship education with locally adaptable practical innovations can foster sustainable economic models in religious educational institutions, positioning Islamic boarding schools as agents of inclusive economic development.

The method used consists of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation includes socialization, interactive discussions, and practical training in preparing simple financial reports and applying audit checklists. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in financial management, particularly in preparing income statements and cash flow reports. Participants also showed increased awareness of the importance of transparency and accountability in managing business finances. This program proves that participatory and practical approaches are effective in improving MSMEs’ financial governance. It is recommended to conduct continuous assistance and integrate digital financial tools to ensure sustainability and broader impact.

Abstract

Organic and inorganic waste management in Indonesia is a major challenge due to the high volume of household waste. In Kemplong Village, Pekalongan, the problem of organic and inorganic waste is exacerbated by a lack of awareness and limited processing facilities, leading to waste accumulation, resulting in pollution and health risks. The Community Service Program (KKN) 62 of UIN Gusdur Pekalongan took the initiative to address this problem by integrating the Waste Bank Unit (BSU) and stacked bucket composters as an integrated solution. The program involved outreach, participation, and practical training during the KKN period, involving the BSU group and housewives. Results showed a reduction in unmanaged waste, increased public awareness, and the production of three active composters, supporting SDG 11. Key challenges include the short duration of the program and reliance on voluntary participation. Strengthening collaboration with local governments is needed for ongoing monitoring, training in marketing recycled products, and the development of waste management infrastructure.
