Jurnal Bastra (Bahasa dan Sastra)
JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Indonesian literature includes studies on poetry, prose fiction, drama, and film with a structural approach, stylistics, semiotics, sociology of literature, psychology of literature, psychoanalysis, literary ecology, deconstruction, philology, phenomenology, feminism, literary reception, and literary anthropology.

<![CDATA[This article discusses the inner conflicts of the main character in a novel by Tere Liye entitled Fallen Leaves Never Hate the Wind. The aim of this research is to analyze the inner conflicts experienced by Tania, who is the main character, as well as the factors that cause the conflicts experienced. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The approach used in this analysis is literary psychology. The results of this research show that people experience various types of inner conflict, namely love, anger, doubt, sadness and guilt. Each of these conflicts is triggered by situations experienced by the main character, such as the uncertainty of unrequited love and the loss of his mother. This research also found that Tania's inner conflict had a significant impact on her mental health, causing feelings of jealousy, deep sadness and anxiety. The conclusion of this research confirms that the inner conflict experienced by Tania reflects complex and universal emotional challenges. Tania's experience as the main character gives readers insight into the importance of understanding and accepting feelings in facing life's difficulties.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to (1) Analyze argumentative writing skills without using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, (2) Analyze argumentative text writing skills using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, (3) Analyze the effect of using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by social media on writing argumentative texts for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran. This study involved all 357 class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, with a sample of 72 people divided into two classes: the control class (36 people) and the experimental class (36 people). The assessment instruments used included the introduction, the content (argument body), the closing, denotative sentences, verbs, adverbs, and conjunctions. The experimental method used was a two-group post-test design with a quantitative approach, and used data analysis techniques such as analysis requirements tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The results of the study showed that the skill of writing argumentative texts using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media had a significant impact, as evidenced by the tcount value > ttable, namely 7.5703 > 2.03224, indicating a significant influence on the skill of writing argumentative texts of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran.]]>

<![CDATA[Language serves as a fundamental tool for expressing ideas and emotions in daily life. With the progression of globalization and technological innovation, code-mixing has become increasingly prevalent, particularly among Generation Z. This study aims to examine the influence of code-mixing on the daily communication expressions of Generation Z. A qualitative research method was applied, utilizing content analysis based on questionnaire data collected from young respondents. The results revealed that many Generation Z individuals actively incorporate code-mixing into their oral and written communication, especially through social media platforms. In formal settings such as presentations and seminars, some respondents indicated a tendency to use code-mixing, while others preferred maintaining linguistic formality. Several participants viewed code-mixing as an important means of expressing themselves more flexibly, whereas others considered it unnecessary in everyday communication. These findings suggest that code-mixing has become an integral part of Generation Z’s linguistic identity, though there remains an awareness of the need to uphold linguistic politeness and preserve the national language. This study emphasizes the importance of balancing global adaptation with the preservation of local cultural values in language use.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the syntactic structure of compound sentences in online news texts on Kompas.com media. Using qualitative descriptive methods, this study identifies the structure, types, and functions of compound sentences in the news text entitled "Ghifran's Story, MAN 4 Jakarta Student Accepted by 13 Overseas Campuses". The results of the study show a variety of compound sentence structures used, including compound sentences with equivalent relationships of selection and addition, compound sentences with tiered relationships of concession, time, and purpose, and mixed compound sentences. The use of conjunctions such as "which", "or", "for", "and", "although", "since", "during", "that", and "and" plays an important role in connecting clauses logically. Compound sentences function to combine equivalent information, explain logical relationships between information, and build a structured flow of information. The study concludes that the use of compound sentences is not just a variation of sentence structure, but also a linguistic strategy that supports the clarity, completeness, and appeal of news texts in the context of online journalism.]]>

<![CDATA[This article discusses the development of TikTok as a major platform in digital marketing strategies, especially in Indonesia. TikTok is not only used for creativity, but also as an effective business medium in reaching young audiences through persuasive and creative content. Features such as the "For You Page" (FYP) help content go viral, opening up great opportunities for business people and creators. Influencers, including celebrities, play an important role in shaping consumer perceptions and purchasing decisions. This article aims to influence readers' emotions to be interested in buying products, by emphasizing the importance of persuasive communication. Specifically, this article analyzes the use of persuasive sentences in G2G product promotions by MaharajaSP influencers on TikTok, using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the analysis show that MaharajaSP is effective in using persuasive sentences to attract attention, create urgency, and provide recommendations, thereby increasing the effectiveness of product marketing on TikTok.]]>

<![CDATA[Language is an arbitrary system of sound symbols that is agreed upon and used by a group of society based on certain rules to communicate and interact in daily life. However in the practice of language use, errors in language are often still encountered especially in the use of Indonesian language. The purpose of research is to analyze Indonesian language errors in the papers of the Indonesian Languange Education students at Siliwangi University class of 2023 at the syntactic level. The method of research uses qualitative with a descriptive approach. Meanwhile, the data collection technique of research uses the read-note technique with the data analysis technique of research uses the Miles & Huberman model. The results and discussion of research indicate that there are errors in the papers of the Indonesian Languange Education students at Siliwangi University class of 2023 at the syntactic level. In the phrase structure there are 10 errors, in the clause structure there are 5 errors, and in the sentence structure there are 10 errors. Furthermore, hope of research can provide reflection and evaluation regarding errors in the Indonesian language, particularly at the syntactic level. ]]>

<![CDATA[This study examines the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in teaching life values explored through short stories to eleventh-grade students. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research elaborates on how PBL is applied to encourage students to identify and analyze life values in literary works. Data was collected through the analysis of lesson plans (RPP) and student learning reflection sheets, and subsequently analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that PBL effectively facilitates students to become active, collaborative, and critical learners. Through authentic problem-solving, group discussions, and the enactment of short story scenes, students not only identify life values but also develop a deeper and more relevant understanding in relation to their personal experiences. These findings imply that PBL is a potential alternative to replace conventional teacher-centered learning models in literature education, and contributes to the development of innovative learning models for instilling character values.]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji relasi makna dalam lirik lagu karya Rony Parulian melalui pendekatan semantik. Analisis difokuskan pada tiga jenis relasi makna, yaitu sinonimi, antonimi, dan hiponimi, yang terdapat dalam tiga lagu: Angin Rindu, Tak Ada Ujungnya, dan Sampai Di Sini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu-lagu tersebut mengandung variasi relasi makna yang memperkaya ekspresi bahasa dan emosi dalam lagu. Sinonimi ditemukan sebanyak sepuluh data, antonimi sebanyak tujuh data, dan hiponimi sebanyak dua data. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa penggunaan relasi makna dalam lirik lagu memiliki peran penting dalam menciptakan keindahan, kedalaman makna, dan kekuatan ekspresi dalam karya musik. <![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan fonologi pada kanal YouTube Yuna Nuna. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik menyimak. Data diambil dari video berjudul “Orang Korea Berebut Jurusan Bahasa Indonesia”. Proses analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian, dan perumusan simpulan. Hasil temuan menunjukkan tiga jenis kesalahan berupa penghilangan, perubahan, dan penambahan fonem. Kesalahan terjadi akibat interferensi bahasa Korea dan kurangnya pemahaman fonologi bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini dapat menjadi landasan bagi pengembangan materi fonologi BIPA ke depannya serta pemanfaatan media digital dalam pembelajaran.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the language and spelling feasibility of Chapter V in the 2021 Indonesian language textbook for second-grade elementary school students, themed “Making Friends in Diversity.” Using a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis and linguistic error analysis, the study evaluates the textbook's content alignment with learning objectives, character education, and linguistic accuracy. Data were collected through document review, observation sheets, student journals, and guided discussion outcomes. The findings indicate that the chapter content appropriately integrates character values such as empathy, tolerance, and self-confidence through contextual fables and active learning activities. However, several issues were identified in linguistic structure, including the use of non-standard words like “minder,” incomplete or ambiguous sentence constructions, and punctuation errors in direct speech. Visually, the book employs child-friendly design and illustrations, although some graphics lack relevance to the narrative. The transition between narrative and exercises is often abrupt, reducing instructional coherence. Despite meeting most feasibility indicators, improvements are needed in language structure and narrative cohesion to enhance the effectiveness of the book as a learning medium. The study recommends revising ambiguous sentences, ensuring accurate spelling and punctuation, and aligning illustrations with textual content. Strengthening both linguistic and visual elements can significantly contribute to fostering proper language habits and instilling positive character traits in early-grade learners.]]>
