According to the development plan of MEBIDANG-RO, Pinang Baris has been stated as TOD Area. Bus Terminal will be the transit center within the area and have direct integration to buildings surround it. Issues that appeared solved with utilizing the land that will be allocated as circulation area to prevent crossing circulation between transportation and passengers, contemporary architecture theme will be applied, and the building shape will be following the circulation plan that has made before, Therefore, the design of Pinang Baris Bus Terminal would fulfill the needs of users in TOD Pinang Baris.

Nowadays, housing development wide-spreads in various cities in Indonesia. This is due to the increasing needs of the community towards a safe residence with its complete facilities and infrastructure to support the needs of daily life. Housing is not only build and construct, but it should also have a protection effort to make residential shelter safe from disaster, such as fire. Fires in housing have a high level of risk and danger since it can cause material loss and loss of life. Fire passive protection system is an effort to overcome the fire. The use of passive fire protection system is to facilitate the community and firefighters in extinguishing the fire so that the spread of fire does not propagate to other buildings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reliability level of passive fire protection system in the housing environment by doing a case study at Perumnas Helvetia Medan. Then, it was done by giving layout design recommendation of the residential area by passive fire protection system theory of building and environment.

Medan Plaza that built in 1982 is one of the pioneers of high-rise malls and buildings that can be considered modern and became the pride of the city of Medan. Over time, more than twenty years later, more and more malls have sprung up in Medan and also building mall coupled with the hotel or apartment. The liability to build high-rise buildings is also the answer to the increasing lack of land in the city center. Besides that, high-rise buildings which interconnected with each other are answers to the needs of the times, that constitute an integrated unit of an organism, the city, which has various activities connected to each other in a system. Hotel and mall have a crucial role in meeting the needs of society. The existence of a single entity with the hotel mall gives ease in meeting the needs of shopping and sightseeing the hotel guests. Facilities at the hotel also required of the general public that with the restaurant, pool, ballroom, gym, etc. Hotel and the mall is a response to the needs of a complex society.

The development of the historic area in Medan Labuhan requires hotels that meet the standards of domestic and foreign tourists. Tourism development is noteworthy because tourism services include the leading sector in the national economy. As an effort to develop new tourism area, Cultural Heritage Area in Medan Labuhan is a historical tourism area that has the potential to be visited by tourists both domestic and foreign tourists. For this thesis proposed design “Hotel Resort in Chinatown Medan Labuhan Area.” So the resort hotel design approach uses the theme of Vernacular Architecture because the location of the design has an intense relationship with the Heritage Buildings especially Taopekong building. This thing is to reinvigorate the identity of this Chinatown Region like its heyday by making a resort hotel that blends with the old building. The research method used is ethnography method with qualitative data collection. Data collection was obtained from the literature study, field survey, comparative study, and group discussion. So Hotel Resort is the best solution to develop Medan Labuhan Area. With the facilities provided are old building store area, function room, bar & lounge, restaurant, cafe, swimming pool, playground, artificial lake & cottages.

Development of the city center of Medan Labuhan area requires public infrastructure to support community needs activities. One of the most needs is a train station. A train station is an important part in a contemporary urban area for living, entertaining and working. Trains assessed can cope with transportation problems that occur between regions. With the above considerations, it is necessary to make efforts that can improve the condition of Medan Labuhan Train Station. The approach of a design of Medan Labuhan Station Development is the theme of Neo Vernacular Architecture so that it can be aligned with the old station and surrounding buildings and support conservation activities in Chinatown Medan Labuhan. Based on data from Dinas Perumahan dan Permukiman Kota Medan, Kampung Badur is one of housings and settlements with very poor slum level. This statement is constituted by irregular home plots, disobedience to house building regulations, and uninhabitable physical condition of buildings and environments but Kampung Badur also has some potential in social, economic and cultural aspects that can be developed. Looking at the situations in Kampung Badur, this area needs to be rearranged into a better area by exploiting the existing potential to become a commercial area like culinary area, designing decent residential model, adding facilities and public spaces.

Medan City, Indonesia's third largest city with a strategic position as the main gateway of Indonesia in the western region, must prepare itself to develop in facing variousopportunities and challenges as a metropolitan city. Polonia's ex-terminal complex post-relocation Polonia Airport is a region with the high potential to become a strategic trading center in Medan. Taking into consideration the availability of the existing area, the concept of vertical-shelter construction is chosen that can be used as a trading place, office or second residence is known as an apartment. The apartment can be defined as a building consisting of several residential units arranged in stages, and has the same space and facilities, to overcome the problem of density of occupancy rate and limited land in urban areas. Therefore, the concept of "Green Architecture" is considered appropriate to address the environmental issues. Where the concept of green architecture (Green Architecture) is an approach to the building that can minimize the various harmful effects on human health and the environment.

Tourism is a very important sector in a country because it can improve the economy. Tourism is able to contribute greatly to the addition of foreign exchange that can be utilized for the development and prosperity of the people for developing countries like Indonesia. Tourism development in Karo Regency especially Sipiso-Piso Waterfall is very important to be developed because it has the potential that is not inferior to other tourist destination in Indonesia. The existing potential can be utilized optimally to reach the destination as the main tourist attractions so that the tourism sector becomes a source or supplier of strategic funds in supporting the development of the Karo Regency. The Hotel resort is the best solution in developing Sipiso-Piso Waterfall object. In order for tourism potential to develop and serve as a reliable product sold in the global market, this design can be done using Neo Vernacular Architecture approach to raise the local culture in Indonesia, especially the existing culture in Karo and Lake Toba.

A person's views or beliefs affect space in the coastal environment. The settlement in the Kampung Nelayan Indah Belawan Medan was built because of the government's assumption in building the settlement and spatial planning in the coastal area. The space formed in the settlement is adapted to the pattern of community activities that occupy it to facilitate local people in doing their work outside the room. The coastal areas also affect the social perspectives of people living in settlements. Social views arise because of age, education, socioeconomic, socio-cultural, counseling. Researchers use quantitative methods in analyzing the public perception and social view of the reality of space formed in the Kampung Nelayan Indah Belawan Medan. While the qualitative method used to analyze the factors affect the different views between occupants.

A bathroom is a room that cannot be separated from humans’ daily lives and there are activities performed inside of it. Today’s bathroom usually is designed in the universal style, even though there is no human with the same background nor the same religion. Every religion has its own rules and should be applied by its followers in every aspect of their lives, especially in Islam. There are two guidelines which have the explanation of the bathroom etiquette, Al Quran and Hadits. For the Muslim users, the synchronization between bathroom etiquette and the design of the bathroom is an effort of the observance to Allah SWT. Therefore, this writing is an attempt to give a reminder and also a recommendation of bathroom design layouts based on the rules of Islamic bathroom etiquette. The methodology of this research is to describe all of the bathroom etiquettes in Al-Quran and Hadits and make the concept of the bathroom design layouts based on what is permitted and forbidden.
