Abstract

Chinatown architecture in Bagansiapiapi is a major component of the Chinatown area as an identity with various facades influenced by local Malay culture. The growth and development of cities with economic orientation is often not in line with the understanding to maintain the image of the building, which has an impact on district transformation which can eliminate the existence of Chinatown architecture that currently exists or intersects with the city Commercial center. This can be seen in the changes in facade formation that took place on the Bagansiapiapi Perniagaan street. The typology of facade architecture of the Chinatown building was carried out with the aim of (i)Knowing the character of the facade shape of Chinatown facade, (ii)Getting the dominant formation in each of the facade forming element , so that Chinatown buildings can still be found. The method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, which is directed at describing and interpreting existing conditions. The analysis used by classifying facades on elements of Malay Chinatown architecture includes types of building dimensions, ownership and function modules, which are formed by facade components (roofs, vents, doors, windows, walls, and stilt construction). The findings of this study are the facade of the Chinatown building in Bagansiapiapi on the facade of formation elements that have dominance: 1) Module composition of the core dimensions (a) 1 function of the house floor with wood 2) The shape of the gable, the formation of plain rectangular windows and two long ornaments downward, the formation of the window extends downward by placing a balanced composition right and left, setting a horizontal wall, using a stilt construction. In the era of visual communication and local activities as opportunities for the development of a place, the potential Merdeka Square neighborhood activities become eligible as an aspect of quality amplifier forming place (reinforcement place making). With the method of observation and analysis of spatial solid-void it is obtained that the Merdeka Square is a model of district gateway rather than a landmark gateway by appearing the activities of local commercial, local culture, heritage adventure, social interaction as a trigger activity. These findings are useful for policy makers to look at the Merdeka Square as forming productivity growth Medan city center as well as reinforcing the identity of Medan city.

Abstract

Mount Sinabung is a volcano on the plateau of Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Mount Sinabung suddenly erupted in 2010. The last eruption of the volcano occurred since February 19, 2018, and until now become an attraction to find out more about volcanic disasters. Museum Mount Sinabung is present to provide the means for education, dissemination of information in the aspect of the volcano and geological disaster with recreative and educative of nature. The problem raised was "How to design a volcano museum using the neo-vernacular architectural approach?". By applying one flow that develops in this post-modern era to revive memories of a semi-historical culture, representational, plural and eclectic cultural Agenda on to evoke the Design of Museum Mount SinabungIn the application of the neo-vernacular architectural approach to the building of the Museum, the principle of building the Siwaluh Jabu is restored, physically and non-physically.By using the qualitative method of designing the Museum, it was designed because it was rational and planned systematically with the selected location. So, the Museum is conceptualized with a flexible gallery that can be used as a shelter for refugees. Abstract

Tongging Village is a tourist village located on the shores of Lake Toba. The natural wealth is owned by Tongging villages such as Sipiso-Piso waterfall which is the highest waterfall in Indonesia, also Sapo Juma which is a flower garden and camping area not far from the site location. However, with the natural wealth of various tourist areas in Tongging Village has not been developed optimally. Accommodation in the village is also still very restricted because of this the need for supporting facilities that add visitors to the region. The application of Neo-Vernacular architecture aims to revive the traditional Siwaluh Jabu house which many people have forgotten. In this building, the concept of neo-vernacular architecture is seen regarding physical and non-physical aspects. If viewed from a physical point of view, this building uses materials and ornaments in traditional Karo houses and is also seen on the non-physical side of a traditional Karo house use double-loaded corridors and more flexible use of space. A resort Hotel in Tongging village that applies Neo-Vernacular architecture is expected to be an indicator of increased tourism and a reminder of traditional homes in the villages of Tongging and also North Sumatra.

Abstract

This journal is about the design process of Resort Hotels located in Tongging by adopting a Neo Vernacular design approach into the building. The problem in this design process is how to apply the Neo-Vernacular architecture approach to this Resort Hotel building. How to create comfortable outdoor and indoor space for visitors to the tourist area?. How to choose the right material according to the current temperature and conditions, so that it can support the character of the building. The purpose of this design is to apply the Neo-Vernacular Architecture approach to the Tongging Resort Hotel building by looking at the locality context, and designing the out and inside spaces that are comfortable for visitors by uniting indirectly between both areas. Choose the right material according to the temperature and existing conditions, to support the building's character. The methodology carried out in this design was location survey (physical data collection), comparative study, literature study, data processing, conceptualization, schematic and arrived at the final design. The discovery in this design is to design a building that is in an area that has strong locality must do research and analysis to get the concept that is suitable and can be received by the surrounding community and visitors. The author also found that the selection of building materials should source from the site location. For general people, this design is useful as a reference to help similar design buildings.

Abstract

Childhood is one phase of human that plays an important role for children, especially of the child’s brain. Besides that, generals in this phase, the creativity and the character development of children also begin to form. Indonesia has diverse cultures, religions, and languages. Traditional games are also included in cultural diversity. But unfortunately, as the development of science and technology progresses like digital games, these games have gradually begun to extinct and is rarely played by children. The project tries to overcome the problem by designing a building that can become an educational and recreation area. The methodology of this project starts from conducting site selection by literature studies, then the design problem-solving phase, namely by searching ideas, collecting data, literature studies, observation studies, comparative studies. This research produces buildings that can respond to these problems by applying the concepts of ecology architecture to the design. The benefit of this design is that children are more familiar with traditional games and energy-efficient buildings.
