Abstract

Medan is the capital province of North Sumatera in Indonesia. Medan has developed to become one of the metropolitan cities in Indonesia and the heart of economic growth in North Sumatera. Nowadays, Medan is the core of commercial and economic in Indonesia. As the business city, Medan needs a facility as a medium for many activities such as meeting, incentive, conference, an exhibition in world scale. Constructing Medan International Convention Center will be helpful for Medan society and surroundings in needing the daily needs by construction the multi-purpose building. Convention center is one of the valid proof in the convention industry, giving the economic contribution to the city. Considering the substantive investment in the convention center in last years enhances the competition among the businessmen. During the process of designing the Medan International Convention Center uses the method by doing library study which aims to gain the explanation about the program, the field study in gaining the physical data which is needed and literature study as the reference or comparison in designing. Medan International Convention Center can be visited 4000 until 7000 people. The theme of expressionism architecture applies to the building which will show the shape that it can communicate and create the feeling and emotion of the function itself. Finally, this building has the proper function, having the good and visual interest.

Abstract

Business opportunities and challenges in the economic sector are underway in the country, including in Medan Labuhan. Many regions build their territory by making public spaces such as traditional markets. Nowadays, there is a change of consumer behavior toward the traditional market so; its positions are replaced by the modern markets. With the revitalization of Pekan Labuhan traditional market that carries the theme of behavioral architecture is expected to restore the function of the traditional market as a place of selling and purchasing transaction and increasing competitiveness to the modern market. With the achievement of this issue will increase consumer interest to shop in Pekan Labuhan traditional market which then gives a good impact on the economic stability of Medan Labuhan.

Abstract

Kampung Aur is one of the densely populated settlements located in Medan City Center. This village is located on the banks of the River Deli, District Mimoon Medan, Neighborhood IV. Kampung Aur is a place for the lower middle-class urban community that provides a place for unplanned settlements. This village has the potential to be reorganized while maintaining the traditions of the people. The approach used for the design of this village is Ecological architecture, where the building uses a natural building system, wastewater treatment, and rainwater utilization.

Abstract

The business hotel is one of the facilities that support business work, and their activities are the reason of humans to travel some place for business in an area or urban areas. Dolok Sanggul Kab. Humbang Hasundutan is the one of area increasing their economy in every year with agriculture and hospitality sector as one of the driving axis of the economy in this area but, no one the hotel that supports business activities in around of this area. As one of the efforts undertaken to maintain the sustainability of natural, the design of Sustainable Architecture in the business hotels to be designed is very suitable theme be the reference to scheming business hotels in this area.

Abstract

According to the development plan of MEBIDANGRO, there are 21 modes of transportation in the future carried out repairs and revitalization, one of which is Pinang Baris Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The TOD Pinang Baris design integrates the Bus Terminal Pinang Baris with other building functions as a support, with sky bridge and pedestrian aimed at realizing a pedestrian-friendly and vehicle-free TOD region. One function of the building within the TOD Pinang Baris is the Traditional Market. Traditional Market is chosen to be a building that serves as a business center in the TOD area whose design is suitable for the behavior of users in the Market. Based on the analysis, The Traditional Market is designed on 2.5 hectares of land, with a building area of 16.802 m2, and the number of floors is 3 floors. General problems in the market such as hot, stuffy, smelly and wasteful use of electrical energy in traditional market solved by applying Green Architecture themes such as the design of skylights and voids providing natural lighting to conserve electricity and cross ventilation to keep it stuffy. Similarly, the inconvenience of building users in the market to the circulation that is difficult to access, then the design is applied circle circulation concept so that there are no more kiosks and loods that are isolated from the visitors. Therefore, thus, the implementation of green architectural themes in traditional markets can meet the needs and convenience of its user.

Abstract

The design of Kampung Wisata is intended to improve the living standards and environmental quality of the Kampung Nelayan area. As we know that, the location is the formation of slum areas whose land ownership is still illegal and the majority of the population work as low-income fishermen. These conditions cause the environment look too grubby with scattered rubbish and the lack of environmental utilities. Though in addition, Kampung Nelayan region, particularly Kampung Banjar has a variety of potential that can be used as a capital to developed into the tourist attraction. This also can be used as a place to develop slum areas become a better place which can compete in the future.

Abstract

Kampong Badur precisely is one of the slums in Medan City with the category of slum 'very bad' based on the Office of Housing and Settlements Medan 2015. Given the issues in various developing countries precisely in big cities in Indonesia are the increase of population and the process of urbanization. For that, the selection of strategies relating to the rearrangement by improving the old function and adding a new function is the strategy of Redevelopment. An urban redevelopment project that refers to the typical residential vernacular city of Indonesia called Kampong. So, in overcoming the problem of urban slum dwelling in low-income villagers who still put forward the typical residential vernacular Indonesia (kampong) is Kampong City Block. The concept of Kampong City Block is combined with the concept of economic improvement to overcome the problems of lowincome population slum area. In the case of Kampong Badur, social mapping in terms of livelihoods obtained some livelihoods that are considered to support the economic development of the population of trade, farming, chicken breeding, and small convection industry. The integration of these 4 sectors will be synergized in every design process. Then, the concept of Integrated Kampong City Block is also maintaining socio-culture of Badur people so that the approach to the theme of behavioral architecture and analysis of all aspects of the village community, ranging from the concept of macro and micro.

Abstract

The rapid economic growth in Medan Labuhandistrict has an impact on improving living standards and population growth. This is also in line with the availability of public facilities and infrastructure because the higher the level of one's life, the higher the quality of facilities. Furthermore it is needed a container to full fill the need for medical services both medical and non medical are realized through the design of "Public Hospital Type C Pekan Labuhan" with the aim as a container that provides health services and conduct activities related to health and supported by the facilities within it to achieve that goal. Public Hospital Type C Pekan Labuhan is designedbyapplying neo vernacular architectural themes so that it canalign this building in surrounding buildings and able tosupport the existence of heritage conservation areaactivities in this region. Public Hospital PekanLabuhan asone of the hospitals certified Class C Hospital is expectedto function by the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

The field should have a representative and iconic place for the value of art. Representative and iconic became a common point of view of the community so easily recognized and emerging interest to try the various activities in it. However, the state of today's cultural park is not feasible to accommodate local art and cultural activities. Such inadequacy is evidenced by the decline of public interest. Therefore, it is necessary to rejuvenate the North Sumatra Cultural Park to function again as a forum capable of responding to the community's response to art and culture. North Sumatra Redevelopment expected to perform its function optimally as an art development of Medan city.

Abstract

The Museum is a place to see showpieces as art, artifacts, and other cultural relics. The purpose of the museum is not only for education but also as entertainment. This design takes the case study of a contemporary art museum. This museum has a gallery, which function is to sell and auction the contemporary art. This Museum and Gallery designed with contemporary architecture style, suitable for the main function of the building which is museum and gallery of contemporary art. The museum and gallery will also help to develop the tourism in Medan and to be an education facility to the public. There are few steps made in the process of completing the design; the first one is by collecting data from the literature, books, journal, magazine, the internet, survey, and interview. And from the data collected, the design for Museum and Gallery of Contemporary Art will be produced.
