Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the social network between rural and urban elderly with disability. Methodology: The study participants were community dwelling rural and urban elderly with disability. Disability was assessed using Washington Group Short Set of questions on functioning and social network was rated using the Lubben Social Network Scale. Data were analysed using ANOVA test and crosstabulation to gain a deeper understanding with demographic variables. Results: A total of 115 (55 rural and 60 urban) elderly with disability aged 60-95 years participated in this study. Rural elderly with disability are more involved in social networking. Urban elderly women seem to experience higher rates of isolation. Rural men exhibit higher level of social networking compared to urban men and women in both rural and urban settings. Elderly who have education have higher social network than those without education. Married elderly, particularly in rural areas, have higher levels of social networking and lower rates of isolation compared to those who are single. Single elderly, especially in urban areas, are more vulnerable to social isolation. Applications/Originality/Value: Rural older people with disability have higher social networking than their urban counterparts. The findings that sociodemographic and geographic factors shape social network of elderly with disability emphasize the needs of social policies and community-based programs targeting urban elderly with disability, particularly women, those who are single or have lower education.

Abstract

Background: Helminthiasis is a significant public health issue, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. The conventional staining method using 2% eosin, while effective, poses environmental and health concerns due to its carcinogenic properties and poor biodegradability. An alternative, natural, and environmentally friendly dye is necessary. Beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.), rich in betalain pigments, offers a potential solution. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of beet juice as a natural dye for microscopic examination of helminthiasis and assess its performance when combined with 9% citric acid. Methodology: A true experimental design with a posttest-only control group approach was employed. Beet juice concentrations of 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% were prepared, both with and without 9% citric acid. Stool samples confirmed with helminthiasis were stained using these solutions and examined microscopically. The criteria assessed were effectiveness of coloration, visualization of parasite structure, and quality of staining results. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Beet juice at all concentrations showed comparable effectiveness to 2% eosin across all parameters. Adding 9% citric acid enhanced the stability and longevity of the beet juice, maintaining color quality for up to 21 days, compared to 8 days without citric acid. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences between the staining results of beet juice and eosin (p > 0.05). Discussion: beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) contains betasiani pigments and flavonoids which are antioxidants with an acidic pH that can color the protein layer of worm eggs which are alkaline in nature. Conclusion: Beet juice, particularly when combined with 9% citric acid, is a viable, natural alternative to 2% eosin for helminthiasis staining. It offers a safer and environmentally friendly option with comparable effectiveness and longer durability.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this report is to present a case of Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) in a Patient with Acute Pharyngitis, analyzing its etiology, risk factors, clinical symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatment. This report also highlights the importance of prevention and proper management to improve the prognosis of the patient. Methodology: The methodology used in this report is a clinical case study. Data were collected through anamnesis, physical examination, and supporting examinations such as laboratorium. The patient's management was analyzed based on existing medical theories and appropriate treatment was provided according to the patient's condition. Results: The patient was diagnosed with acute pharyngitis with a differential diagnosis of Steven Johnson syndrome, with complaints of sore throat since 5 days ago. Blood laboratory results; leukocyte count 10.75 thousand/ul, leukocyte differential count; neutrophils 78.7% (H), lymphocytes 12.9% (L), eosinophils 0.9%, NLR 6.10% (H). Patients received therapies such as neurobion injections, metamizole injections, and dexamethasone injections. The patient was consulted to a dermatovenerology because the patient was suspected of having Steven Johnson Syndrome. So it is true that the patient has Steven Johnson Syndrome. The therapy given by the dermatovenerology was a 10 mg dexamethasone injection, followed by 5 mg every hour. Other therapies were stopped. The patient had a history of taking medication for headaches which was identified as a significant risk factor for developing the condition. Applications/Originality/Value: This report provides insights into the importance of early diagnosis and proper management in steven jhonson syndrome. sore throat most frequently recorded as a prodromal symptom for SJS, before the onset of skin rashes and oral cavity lesions. Painful skin rash when pressed and Nikolsky's sign are indicators to suspect Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Delayed management of SJS can be fatal, so misdiagnosis must be avoided. The findings can be useful for healthcare professionals to understand clinical signs and effective treatment approaches for similar cases. The study emphasizes the need for preventive measures. A thorough investigation of the drug usage history must be conducted to establish the diagnosis and determine the management plan. Management through multidisciplinary collaboration is highly expected for the patient's recovery.

Abstract

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) and generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) are two rare dermatologic conditions that have similar clinical presentations. This case report discusses the challenges in differentiating AGEP and GPP in a 27-year-old man with a history of psoriasis. The patient presented with complaints of red patches and purulent pustules all over the body since 3 days after taking Cefadroxil. Physical examination showed papules and pustules with erythema base. Eosinophilia was found on laboratory examination. Skin biopsy results supported the diagnosis of AGEP with hyperkeratosis, mild spongiosis, and inflammation in the dermis. Based on the history, clinical presentation, laboratory and biopsy results, the patient was diagnosed with AGEP suspected as an allergic reaction to Cefadroxil. The patient was hospitalized with systemic and supportive therapy. This case emphasizes the importance of thorough evaluation including history, clinical findings, and supporting examinations in differentiating AGEP and GPP.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the sociodemographic factors influencing pre-pregnancy body mass indeks (BMI) among Jordanian women, aiming to identify at-risk groups and inform tailored public health strategies. Methodology: A cross-sectional design was employed to analyze pre-pregnancy BMI of a representative sample from two major hospitals. Participants completed a structured questionnaire assessing sociodemographic factors, including age, income, education, employment status, smoking status, and obstetric history. BMI was calculated using self-reported height and weight, with statistical analyses identifying relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and these variables. Results: The study found that 47.0% of pregnant women were classified as obese, while 17.2% were overweight, and only 34.3% had a normal weight. Significant correlations were identified between pre-pregnancy BMI and age (r = 0.307, p < 0.001), parity number (r = 0.269, p < 0.001), and previous cesarean sections (r = 0.131, p = 0.017). Value: These findings highlight the high prevalence of obesity among pregnant women in Jordan and underscore the need for targeted public health interventions to improve maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

The concept of justice in the perspective of the quran: a fundamental principle in establishing a harmonious and sustainable social order One of the aspects of justice that receives significant attention in Islam is the protection of orphans' rights. Surah Al-An’am verse 152 emphasizes the importance of managing orphans' wealth fairly and responsibly. This verse asserts that their assets must not be misused and should only be utilized for beneficial purposes until they reach maturity. This study employs a qualitative research method and adopts a library research approach, conducting a critical and in-depth analysis of relevant literature, including books and scholarly journals. The research aims to explore the Quranic perspective on justice in managing orphans' wealth while critically examining social practices in Arab societies that often contradict the principles of justice. By referencing classical and contemporary interpretations, this study seeks to provide a deeper understanding of justice in managing orphans' wealth and its implications for the Islamic social system. Social criticism of practices that deviate from Islamic justice values is expected to serve as a reflection for society in maintaining the trust of orphaned assets and upholding justice in everyday life.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the meaning of the word wasaṭ and its various derivations in the Qur'ān. This word is closely related to an important theme that is highly relevant in people's lives, namely moderation. Moderation plays a key role in creating balance, harmony and tolerance at various levels, whether local, national or international. In order to comprehensively understand the concept of moderation, this study focuses on three main questions: what is the basic and relational meaning of the word wasaṭ, how has it developed historically, and how is the weltanschauung or worldview associated with the word wasaṭ reflected in the Qur'ān. This research is a literature study that collects data through the documentation method. The main sources used include the Qur'an, translations, tafsir, as well as various dictionaries to identify the meaning and derivation of the word wasaṭ. In the analysis, the author applies Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic theoretical framework, which includes three main aspects: (1) basic and relational meaning, (2) meaning in synchronic and diachronic contexts, and (3) weltanschauung or worldview related to the word. The basic meaning of the word و-س-ط is "middle". Relationally, through syntagmatic analysis, this word contains the meaning of justice, choice, excellence, best, and dominance, and refers to a just and superior figure. In paradigmatic analysis, the word wasaṭ has similar meanings with jānibun and qalbun, but contrasts with ḥaddun, shafā, ṭarafun, aṭrāfun, 'ażīmun, and karīmun.
