Abstract

The discussion of ants in the Qur'an is found in surah an-Naml verse 18. This critical study of ants is found in the context of language discussion and laboratory research. The beginning of the spirit of rise in this discussion was a critical study of the translation of the meaning of Namlatun which translates to "an ant". Though lafadz namlatun should mean a female ant. The purpose of this research is to explore the meaning of language and match it with field research conducted in biological laboratories. Research on this discussion begins by departing from the study of texts that refer to the words Qaalat, Namlatun, an-Naml, and Udkhuluu. The results of the discussion of this article are expected to contribute knowledge that explains the world of ants as a balancer of forest ecosystems and the earth in general, because the presence of ants is a benchmark for the health of a food chain system in a forest.

Abstract

Devotion to both parents is a commendable trait often referred to as "birrul walidayn" in Arabic. A child's devotion to their parents may not always be proportional to the sacrifices parents make for their children. Devotion to parents can be demonstrated through good service, polite words, and dedication to both of them. In this era, we often witness the phenomenon of children being disobedient to their parents, which certainly goes against what Allah SWT and Prophet Muhammad have commanded. The purpose of this research is to determine the interpretation of "birrul walidayn" in Surah Al-Isra [17]: 24 according to Tafsir Al Azhar and Marah Labid, as well as to compare the similarities and differences between the interpretations of "birrul walidayn" by these two interpreters. This study is based on existing literature. The Tafsir Al Azhar book by Hamka and the Tafsir Marah Labid book by Sheikh Muhammad Nawawi are the primary and secondary data sources that were used to support this topic. Journals, theses, scientific papers, and books were the secondary data sources. The method used in analyzing this writing is the muqaran method. Based on the data analysis conducted, from the interpretation of Surah Al-Isra verse 24, Buya Hamka and Sheikh Muhammad Nawawi agree that a child should take care of both parents with patience and sincerity, be humble towards them, and pray for them.

Abstract

Scholars divide the verses of the Qur'an into two categories: muhkam and mutasyâbihat. One of the most hotly discussed topics is how to interpret the verses in mutasyâbihat that deal with Allah's characteristics. As such, we talk about mutasyabihat verses concerning the qualities of Allah, but we limit our discussion to the lafazh istiwa in this instance. We shall talk about the Nusantara mufassirs' comparative interpretations of the verses about the characteristics of Allah SWT regarding the lafazh Istiwa found in Marah Labid, and in Syaikh Nawawi al-Jawi's interpretation of Al-Azhar.

Abstract

The interpretation of the verse mutasyabihat in the Qur'an is a complex problem in Islamic studies. These verses have meanings that seem ambiguous or open to various interpretations. The interpretation of the Qur'an can vary greatly depending on the context. Some differences can arise in literal versus figurative (distorted understanding), historical context, as well as philosophical or theological approaches in interpreting this sacred text. Especially in interpreting the verse mutasyabihat related to the nature of Allah which will be the focus of our discussion in this writing. The problem is, there are still many people who make an understanding of the similarity of the nature of Allah جل جلاله with the nature of beings (Tashbih). For example, the assumption that Allah sits on 'arsh. Or in other words, God needs his creatures. This kind of understanding is a wrong understanding. It can even affect the understanding of Muslim society, then affect our faith as Muslims. In fact, we know that equating Allah with his legal beings is Haram. So this study tries to explore the interpretation of two mufassir figures, namely, Imam ash-Syaukhani and Quraish Shihab. Especially the interpretation of mutasyabihat verses related to the nature of Allah. Based on the previous description, there are several focus studies in this study : 1) What is the interpretation of Imam ash-Shaukhani and Quraish Shihab on the meaning of istiwa in sura al-A'raf verse 54. 2) How the interpretation of Imam As Syaukani and Quraish Shihab is the meaning of yad in the sad letter : 75. In this study we used qualitative research with literature method. The results of this study explain that, both have differences in interpreting the meaning of istiwa and yad. And each uses a different method of interpretation. 1) Imam Shaukhani argues that Allah dwells in no way. While Quraish Shihab thinks that the meaning of istawa is the power of Allah. 2) Imam Shaukhani interpreted the meaning of yad to mean "without intermediaries". Qurash Shihab interprets the meaning of yad "as an indication of the special treatment and respect that man receives from Allah".

Abstract

This research aims to examine the nature of kufr in Islam, explore the understanding of the word "kafir" in Surah Al-Maidah, and compare the views of the ulama with those of the Khawarij. With the historical background of the first schism in the Muslim community during Uthman's caliphate, the emergence of the Khawarij group, and the impact of extremism such as terrorist attacks in Indonesia, this research is relevant to understanding the mindset and beliefs of Khawarij. The results of this study indicate that acts of terror that threaten security stability, carried out by some Muslims, stem from the understanding of Khawarij and their mistakes in understanding the word kafir, especially in Surah Al-Maidah Verse 44. The research method used is qualitative with a literature study approach to analyze various sources of literature and previous research. The results of the study are expected to provide insight into the understanding of kufr in Islam and the potential differences in interpretation related to the word kafir in Surah Al-Maidah so as to reduce the takfiri paradigm in Indonesia which leads to sustainable security stability.

Abstract

Technological advancements are increasingly shaping daily life. This includes the dissemination of information, with Muslims utilizing technology for Islamic da'wah, particularly Qur'anic interpretation (Tafsīr). While traditionally accessed through physical prints, Tafsīr is now readily available on websites. This study analyzes the sources, methods, and patterns of interpretation employed by http://muslimah.or.id. Employing a qualitative research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach, the study reveals several key features of the website's Tafsīr approach. Interpretations focus on individual letters, specific themes, and contemporary Muslim women's issues. Authors cite reference sources, and interpretations are diverse, reflecting at least four distinct methods. The website incorporates both traditional (bi al-Maʼthūr) and rational (bi al-Ra'y) methods, drawing from classical Tafsīr works like Jalalain, at-Ṭabarī, and Ibn Kathīr. Notably, the website utilizes thematic (Mawḍūʻī) and comparative (Muqāran) approaches. The website prioritizes socio-literary (Adabī ijtimāʻī) aspects, focusing on linguistic, literary, and socio-cultural contexts. However, the inconsistent nature of interpretations due to the website's multiple contributors presents a potential challenge.

Abstract

The holy book of the Quran has an informative and performative function. The informative function refers to the purpose of conveying the message or information of the Qur'an text itself. While the performative function refers to how the Qur'an can create emotional, spiritual, and aesthetic impacts that go beyond simply reading texts. Qur'an calligraphy includes two functions at once, namely when people use calligraphy as a means of conveying revelation and expression of Islamic art, for example Qur'an calligraphy which decorates many mosques around the community. The Iska Grand Mosque in Sukoharjo is known as one of the mosques decorated with Qur'an calligraphy, beautifying every corner of the building. This situation provides an opportunity for the community around the mosque to explore the meaning implied in the art of Qur'an calligraphy. This study centers on how the community responds to and accepts the existence of Qur'an calligraphy in the mosque. The purpose of this investigation is to find out the responses or views of readers and calligraphy connoisseurs at the Iska Mayang Sukoharjo Grand Mosque. This study adopts a qualitative method through a descriptive approach to reveal data in depth (Living Qur'an) which is supported by various literature sources. The findings of this study reveal that calligraphy contributes to linking the interpretation of the content of Qur'anic verses with aesthetic elements, as well as providing an overview of how people judge and enjoy the art of calligraphy at the Iska Grand Mosque. The calligraphy written is a type of khat tsulus in the form of verse writing from Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255, verses 43-44, and Al-Mu'minun verses 1-4.

Abstract

This study explores the development and trends in Quranic exegesis research based on publications indexed in the Scopus database between 1994 and 2023. The research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the patterns, themes, and contributions in this field while highlighting areas for future scholarly exploration. Utilizing advanced data analysis tools, including Ms. Excel, R/R-Studio, and VOSviewer, the study examines key aspects such as publication growth, institutional contributions, author productivity, and thematic focus. The findings reveal significant growth in Quranic exegesis research since 2009, with the highest number of publications recorded in 2022. Malaysia emerges as the leading contributor, with Universiti Malaya identified as the most active institution. The results also indicate a shift in thematic focus, integrating modern topics such as religious moderation, social media, and discourse analysis alongside traditional areas like Quranic interpretation and linguistics. Despite these advancements, the study identifies a limited level of international collaboration, with fewer than 6% of publications involving cross-national authorship. This highlights the need for more significant global partnerships to enrich perspectives and foster innovation in Quranic studies. The insights provided by this study offer a valuable reference for researchers and institutions, paving the way for future advancements in Quranic exegesis research.
