Abstract

This research intends to determine the relationship between reading habits and the spelling ability of students. The research population for this research was eighth-grade students at SMPN 49 Makassar University. The researcher applied a random cluster sampling technique and chose randomly class VIII3 which consist of 32 students. The correlation design was used in the research. Data were collected using two instruments: a questionnaire to obtain the reading habits of the students was the first instrument. The second instrument was a test to obtain students’ spelling ability. The research findings showed that the average student's reading habit was in the low category. The same result for spelling ability, the students are in the low category. This can be observed from the average questionnaire result of 51 and the average test result of 38.59. In addition, the Pearson product-moment correlation result was 0.783. This denotes that the degree of the relationship coefficient () exceeded the degree shown in the R table. In this particular circumstance, , because the r value in the r table is positive, implying that the relation between the two variables is positive. In sum, the better the students' reading habits, the better the students' spelling ability. Besides, there is a two-tailed Sig. of 0.000 < 0.05, which implies that spelling ability and reading habit are significantly correlated. This implies that H0 is dismissed and H1 is acceptable. Therefore, the reading habit and spelling ability in SMPN 49 Makassar are significantly correlated.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores students' perceptions of gamification, a strategy incorporating game-like elements into education, to understand its impact on contemporary learning. The objective is to assess whether students view gamification as a positive or negative tool for learning in the classroom. Five students with prior experience using gamification participated in the study, selected through purposive sampling. The primary method of data collection was in-depth interviews. Findings indicate that students generally perceive gamification positively. Benefits noted include increased enjoyment and interactivity in learning, enhanced motivation and competitive spirit, and the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. However, the study also identifies several challenges associated with gamification, namely technical and accessibility issues, potential reduction in personal interaction, an overemphasis on competition, and distractions from educational objectives.

Abstract

This research aims to find out what is their correlation and positive influence between English ability and employee’s performance in the workplace. This research uses a quantitative, type of correlational research to find whether or not there is a correlation and, if there is, how close the correlation is, and whether it means or does not. The data obtained is then processed using statistical analysis which uses SPSS. Data collection techniques used questionnaires, data collection with questionnaires is carried out by asking questions to respondents. The result of this study shows that there a correlation and positive influence between English ability and employee’s performance. The indicators from variable X were reading, listening, speaking, writing and the indicators from variable Y was Job completion, contribution and discipline. The correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to 1, where 1 signifies a perfect positive correlation. In this case, the value of 0.780 suggests a highly positive correlation between the two variables. From the results obtained from several tests that have been verified as valid, this result significantly strengthens the hypothesis (H1) that there is a positive association between English ability and employee performance. In statistical terms, the correlation coefficient being close to 1 provides strong evidence supporting the acceptance of our hypothesis. It implies that as English ability increases, employee performance tends to improve.

The data was analyzed using the t-test at a significant level of 0.05 and from the results of the analysis obtained probability data (sig 2-tailed) 0.00 which means lower than the significant data level of 0.05 (0.00 <0.05). This study shows that H0 is rejected and HI is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of the snowball-throwing technique improved students’ literal reading comprehension at SMPN 4 Bontonompo.
