Abstract

This study aims to explore the epistemological construct of Sufism according to Said Nursi in the contemporary era. Sufism is seen as having deviant concepts and practices contrary to Sharia in the modern era. Some muslim and non-muslim thinkers argue that Sufism does not originate from Islam. Therefore, there needs to be an effort to decipher this misunderstanding by exposing how Sufism's epistemology was genuinely constructed by referring to the teachings and practices of a contemporary Sufi, Sa'id Nursi. This study is qualitative library research. Data in this study, both primary and secondary, were collected using documentary techniques. The collected data were analyzed utilizing the content analysis method. This work finds that Nursi outlines four pillars of Sufism epistemology. First, true Sufism is based on the Qur'an and Sunnah, internalized and manifested through the soul and heart, as is the view of the authoritative Sufis. Second, purification of the teachings and practices of Sufism must depart from the purgation of the heart and soul. Third, social equality refers to carrying out lifes values, meaning that all are equal before Allah SWT. Fourth, consistently instill the Qurans four values: tauhid (unity and oneness of God), nubuwah (prophecy), hashr (resurrection), and 'adl (justice).

Abstract

This article examines the psychological doctrines of the Ashʿarite theologian and polymath Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (d. 606/1210). The starting point of the discussion is his critical reception of Avicenna’s (d. ca. 428/1037) psychological theories. I focus on al-Rāzī’s early works on philosophy, in particular al-Mabāḥith al-mashriqiyya and his famous commentary on Avicenna’s al-Ishārāt wa-l-tanbīhāt. I show that Rāzī affirms a theory of the human soul that is heavily influenced by his predecessor. However, I also show that offers a distinct perspective on fundamental issues. I offer a detailed discussion of two Rāzian psychological doctrines: that human souls are heterogenous, rather than constituting a single species “rational animal” pace Avicenna; and that they are caused by celestial entities called Perfect Natures, a theory that is adopted from the practitioners of talismanic magic. The resulting cosmological theory can be referred to as the transcendental individuation of human souls

Abstract

Abstract Islamic interpretation stabilize the mothers as one of the primary individuals directly responsible for managing their children's lives. However, studies have indicated a concerning decline in the institution of the family, which significantly impacts children's well-being. Furthermore, the demands of contemporary careers often lead to the neglect of mothers' parental responsibilities towards their children. Addressing this crucial issue calls for empowering the role of mothers, this study aims to explore the aspects that require attention and improvement from mothers as they fulfill their roles based on the Hadiths of Sahih al-Bukhari. Employing a qualitative research design, the study utilizes inductive thematic analysis to extract valuable insights from the Hadiths. After extracting the hadiths of the mothers' role from Sahih al-Bukhari using words closely related to the word "umm", this study analyses the hadiths from the books of explanation of hadith. Abstract

Abstract This article aims to discuss the idea of multiculturalism from the views of two Indonesian figures, Hamka and Quraish Shihab. Dawam Rahardjo (2010) argues that the principle of multiculturalism in Indonesia has not been properly understood because it is littered with mutual suspicion and concern, especially among majority and minority groups. In real terms, the idea of multiculturalism has not been received by Muslims in general. Firmly, the MUI and Kisdi (Indonesian Committee for Islamic World Solidarity) reject pluralism (2005); Multiculturalism as a pluralistic perspective is not only about recognizing and respecting the plurality of realities but also paying attention to aspects of interaction and the existence of each culture as equal entities. Based on the author's observations, the Qur'an contains many verses that can be used as a basis for building cooperation, mutual respect, tolerance and appreciation, a willingness to accept diversity, reconciliation between people, and peaceful coexistence between cultural groups, based on the principle of justice and equality,  and others multiculturalism principles. The methods used in this article are the content analysis method and the comparative method. Furthermore, this research uses historical and sociological approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Arabic as a foreign language in strengthening the religious identity of Muslims as a social group. Previous studies indicate that religious identity can shift due to various factors, with religious understanding being the most influential. From the Islamic perspective, the Qur'an, regarded as the holy scripture and written in Arabic, serves as the primary source of Islamic teachings. Thus, proficiency in Arabic is considered a crucial factor in shaping Islamic identity. However, previous research has not thoroughly examined how Arabic strengthens Muslim religious identity from a sociological viewpoint. This study employs a qualitative method through literature review, focusing on Minangkabau's history as a case of socio-cultural acceptance of Islam. The analysis is conducted using William H. Sewell Jr.'s theory of social transformation. The findings reveal that Arabic plays a central role as a resource in Minangkabau's social transformation, particularly in the formation and reinforcement of Muslim religious identity at the social level.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to analyze the interaction between the culture of the people of Bengkulu City and Muhammadiyah education from a historical perspective, especially related to the controversy over the acceptance of religious purification teachings and the contribution of Muhammadiyah education to traditions that have long existed in society. This research was carried out using a historical approach through information from the figures involved and knowing the history of the development of Muhammadiyah education in Bengkulu City and several other primary and secondary sources. The study results found that Muhammadiyah education in Bengkulu City began with a debate between Muhammadiyah figures and kaum tuo (the old generation). Muhammadiyah's teachings focus on the purification of Islamic teachings in the culture of the Bengkulu City community, which contained many mystical and polytheistic (shirk) elements. Finally, the approach of Muhammadiyah figures led to cultural interaction with Islamic teachings as long as they did not conflict with Islamic teachings in religious activities, death, marriage, art, music, and curriculum in Muhammadiyah educational institutions through local cultural content. This research has implications for developing a curriculum based on local cultural values so that it can improve character and identity among students.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges in implementing the scientific paradigm of Universitas Islam Negeri Imam Bonjol Padang (UIN IB Padang) in the Constitutional Law Study Program (Siyāsah Shar’iyyah). A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation for data collection. The findings reveal that UIN IB Padang adopts an interaction-dialogical paradigm, which has been implemented in the Constitutional Law Study Program (Siyāsah Shar’iyyah), as reflected in the curriculum structure. However, this implementation remains formalistic, as lecturers have not fully applied the paradigm in teaching. This is due to the lecturers' lack of updated knowledge regarding the interaction-dialogical paradigm and the absence of specific teaching guidelines provided by UIN IB Padang. Additionally, the development of the Constitutional Law Study Program (Siyāsah Shar’iyyah) faces challenges within the context of Indonesian Constitutional Law. This study recommends that UIN IB Padang develop a guideline for implementing the interaction-dialogical paradigm and establish a dedicated institution to support its application and development.

Abstract

This article aims to investigate how the digital volunteers of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) utilize social media to promote the organization. The study employs a qualitative approach, gathering data through online interviews and content analysis of the Instagram account @nucreativemedia. This study will address three questions: First, what motivates digital volunteers to create the Instagram account @nucreativemedia? Second, what types of content are promoted on this account? Third, how do digital volunteers present NU content on Instagram? Based on these questions, the findings indicate that: First, the initiative to create the Instagram account @nucreativemedia is driven by the desire to counter radical and conservative Islamic movements on social media. Second, the content promoted includes NU scholars, fiqh and worship, social-political issues, and public facilities associated with NU, such as pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), hospitals, universities, and products. Third, the Instagram account @nucreativemedia enhances its content through a combination of colors, images, and audio that reflect NU culture. This promotional effort further reinforces NU's position and relevance in the online space.
