Abstract

This article aims to reveal the position and status of Confucianism under the colonial legal system in the Dutch East Indies. By explaining this status, this article not only provides an explanation of the religion as a legal entity but also the limitations of its rights and obligations, including ownership rights over land used for its liturgical and social activities. For that, with a temporal scope of the colonial era, the method used to construct it is the historical method combined with the methodology of legal science. Through a combination of the two, it is hoped that this paper will be useful to provide explanations at least to the scholars from both disciplines. The data used in this research is colonial-era data, which consists of archival sources (especially manuscript) and contemporaneous information sources (old newspapers). The use of such data is based on the consideration that the information obtained has a high value of validity and legality and supports the objective judgements contained in the conclusions. The conclusion of this research is that there was a dualism within the colonial policy, between viewing Confucianism as a legitimate form of religion like other religions or making Confucianism an integral legal part of the Chinese community.

Abstract

In modern Chinese literature, Shen Congwen's representative work, Biancheng (Border City), is a very important work. This short story is inspired by Xiangxi and tells the emotional stories between several characters. It unfolds from the harmony between humans and nature, reflecting the loneliness of characters and the natural environment - not only from the author Shen himself, but also from his pursuit of idealized life forms and his display of the authenticity of life forms. So, how does Biancheng describe feelings of loneliness? What are the descriptions and characteristics of loneliness in Biancheng? What are the reasons behind describing loneliness? What is the writing value of depicting loneliness? This article will mainly use literature analysis method and comparative method, combined with concepts, theories, and methods in the field of thematic studies, to qualitative study these issues and attempt to provide a reasonable and feasible explanation. This study not only benefits the further development of Shen Congwen's research, but also inspires people to rethink the depiction of consciousness and its relationship with literary writing.

Abstract

Based on the analysis and teaching methods of “Construction-Chunk”, this paper designs a teaching plan for comparative sentences for Indonesian adult Chinese as a second language learners. The basic ideas are as follows: by comparing the “HSK Standard Course Level 2” and the survey interviews on Indonesian adult Chinese comparative sentences, the grammatical items of comparative sentences that need to be studied are determined; the errors are analyzed in connection with the characteristics of the two aspects of teaching, and the problems that need to be solved in this teaching design are determined; then, according to the analysis and teaching methods of “Construction-Chunk”, and referring to the adult second language acquisition theory, the teaching design of Chinese comparative sentences for Indonesian students is carried out. Through qualitative research, the characteristics of the “Construction-Chunk” teaching method are reflected in the Chinese teaching design, which is conducive to reducing word order errors when learning such comparative sentences for Indonesian adult Chinese second language learners, and developing a new method of learning Chinese.

Abstract

To create standards for foreign language instruction in grades K–12, a coalition of four national language organizations—the Council on Foreign Language Teaching in the United States, the Association of French Teachers in the United States, the Association of German Teachers in the United States, and the Association of Spanish and Portuguese Teachers in the United States—was granted funding in 1993. To define content standards for foreign language education, an eleven-member task force representing various languages, program models, levels of instruction, and geographic areas was assigned. The task force disseminated its findings to the general public and the larger profession at every stage of its formation. The resulting document, which defines and defines the role of education, represents an unprecedented agreement among educators, business leaders, the government, and the community. As a multicultural country, the People's Republic of Tunisia began Chinese language education in the 1970s and offered a three-year undergraduate program in Chinese language at Carthage University’s Higher Language Institute of Tunis in Tunisia. The teachers in this major include locals, non-locals, and Chinese. All the teachers have designed a teaching plan together that can provide students with various aspects of Chinese language education. Since Chinese language teaching for said students is a base education process (meaning most of the students do not have a prior Chinese language education), this article will use the 5C plan for Chinese language learning goals in primary and secondary schools across the United States to separately define the content and objectives of this teaching plan, therefore highlighting it’s strengths and potential weaknesses to help better the Chinese education in Tunisia, aiding in the deepening of Sino-Tunisian relations.

Abstract

This study applies Kristeva's intertextual theory to compare two monumental works written by great Indonesian politicians: Mao Zedong's “Strategic Problems in The Anti-Japanese Guerrilla War” and A H. Nasution's “Fundamentals of Guerrilla Warfare”. Based on Kristiva's theory, this study explores how the book “Strategic Problems in The Anti-Japanese Guerrilla War” influenced A H. Nasution's by analyzing the cultural, geographical, and political differences between China and Indonesia. A H. Nasution wrote “Fundamentals of Guerrilla Warfare” and how General Soedirman led the masses in the guerrilla war against the Netherlands in 1948 under the influence of the book. These two books have had a great influence in the world military field so far, such as “Fundamentals of Guerrilla Warfare” which is still a must read in American military studies. Through the study of these two great works, not only can we understand Mao Zedong and A H. Nasution's profound thoughts have broadened his horizons, and he can also understand the spirit of empathy and the pain of being colonized at that time, as well as how they developed mature political systems and military theories under various controls and conditions of colonialis.
Feng Shui and Theory of Place: Navigating Chinese Traditional Cosmology in Modern Ecology Refan Aditya

Abstract

This article is a theoretical review on Feng Shui in ecological discourse. Even though Feng Shui has always been about environmentalism, nature, and the harmonisation of humans with their environment, discussions of Feng Shui in the context of modern ecological science are relatively rare, or at least less popular. This is because Feng Shui, in modern and urban society, is treated more as pragmatic measures than ecological knowledge. This research aims to provide theoretical insights that engage Feng Shui in the discourse of ecology and modernity by grounding it in the theory of place put forward by Brian G. Cambel. The theory of place postulated that place holds a particular meaning for ethical commitment for human-nature living. There are three approaches to place: phenomenology, bioregionalism, and cultural geography. This research argues that these three approaches provide a paradigmatic grounding for the critical relevance of Feng Shui in modern ecology discourse, regardless of its non-scientific and superstitious reputation.

Abstract

In recent years, with the continuous development of international Chinese education, the field of Chinese textbook research has shown a flourishing trend. Based on the CNKI database, this study employs Cite Space 6.3 R1 software to conduct a bibliometric analysis of literature on Chinese textbooks for foreign learners from 1999 to 2023. The study systematically examines publication volume, key authors, major institutions, research hot spots, and emerging trends. The findings indicate that Chinese textbook research has undergone four stages: the preliminary stage (1999-2005), steady growth stage (2006-2010), peak stage (2011-2018), and stabilization stage (2019-2023). Regarding research hot spots, topics such as textbook compilation, localization, principles of textbook design, and error analysis have gained significant academic attention. Furthermore, keyword clustering and burst word analysis reveal the evolutionary trends of Chinese textbook research, suggesting that future studies may focus more on personalized, intelligent, and multi modal textbook development. This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the current state and development trends of Chinese textbook research and provides insights for future investigations.

Abstract

The research title of this article is “A Comparative Analysis of “MeiHua” and “HanYu” Chinese Language Textbooks”. There are various types of Chinese Language Textbooks used by elementary school in Indonesia, two of which is “MeiHua” and “HanYu”. But not all the textbooks are completely suitable for Indonesian students, especially since Chinese is taught as a foreign language. In Chinese textbooks there are several important components, one of which is topic and vocabulary. Therefore, this study employs the literature review method and comparative analysis to examine and compare the topics and vocabulary found in the 'MeiHua' Volumes 1–6 and 'HanYu' Volumes 1–6 Chinese language textbooks, using the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education as a reference. Based on the result of the research, this article found that the similarities between the two textbooks lie in the topics that frequently appear, while the differences are seen in the scope and focus of the topics taught. In terms of vocabulary, although the amount of vocabulary in both textbooks does not meet certain standards, they are still suitable for the developmental process of learning Chinese at the elementary level. In addition, MeiHua has a more balanced vocabulary distribution and is in line with YCT Level 3 objectives, while Hanyu is more in line with the needs of overseas Chinese students and follows the primary school Chinese syllabus.

This article discusses sweets in Chinese traditional cultural rituals (consider to use traditional Chinese ritual). Ritual is very important because through a study of the rituals of a group, we can understand a religion. Religious action is primarily demonstrated in rituals. (add a line about why ritual is important for the Chinese life, and why did you discusses the  offerings, instead of the ritual performance. Make it 2 or 3 sentence). Food is one of the centers of a ritual because food offerings is one of the pillars of Chinese culture. The research was conducted within a family in Jakarta and at the Toa Se Bio Temple in Jakarta. The research methodology used in this study is qualitative methods, with data collection through observation, interviews, documentation, and data analysis carried out in 2023. This article specifically discusses the meaning and function of sweets in three Chinese cultural rituals: the pre-wedding tradition (sangjit), the Chinese New Year ritual, and the the deity's birthday ceremony (sejit). The research results show that sweets in Chinese cultural rituals function as a means of communication to the gods and humans. Sweets also symbolize the hope that life will always be as sweet as the sweet offerings.

Abstract

The catchphrase "X men" refers to a "faction" or its members composed of individuals who adore a particular entity, while simultaneously conveying the meaning of the loanword "amen" when used at the end of a sentence. Netizens employ "X men" to express their fervent enthusiasm for a given subject. The construction "X men" involves both the content and nature of "X" and "men," and its productivity has undergone significant modification, evolving from a monosemous to a polysemous expression. This series of semantic shifts is underpinned by cognitive operational mechanisms. Through the conceptual blending mechanism of radial development, the neologism "X men" emerges as a semantically coherent and functionally versatile structure, enabling its flexible application and subsequent proliferation in online discourse.
