Abstract

This study aims to explain the role of teachers in fostering the independence of children aged 5-6 years. The purpose of this study is to examine teachers' roles in fostering independence among children aged 5-6 years. Children's independence is an important aspect of development closely related to problem-solving skills and the formation of a responsible, confident character. This study uses a qualitative case study approach. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The findings of this study show that teachers serve as facilitators, role models, encouragers, and consistent rule-makers to instill independent habits in children. The steps taken include providing real examples, providing verbal encouragement, positive appreciation, and providing opportunities for children to complete tasks independently. Simple activities such as eating, putting on shoes, buttoning clothes, and tidying up toys are practical for developing a sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills. This study emphasizes the importance of consistency in habituation, a supportive environment, and cooperation between teachers and parents to increase children's independence from an early age

Abstract

This study examines defensive pessimism as a psychological strategy used by university students to regulate anxiety and prepare for academic challenges. Defensive pessimism refers to a cognitive strategy in which individuals set low expectations and mentally simulate potential negative outcomes to cope with anxiety and enhance performance. The study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a sample of 600 university students selected through stratified random sampling. A defensive pessimism scale consisting of 20 items was developed based on the theoretical framework of Norem and Cantor. The instrument demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties with Cronbach’s alpha reliability of 0.89 and exploratory factor analysis confirming a single-factor structure. Data were analyzed using a one-sample t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results indicated that university students demonstrated significant levels of defensive pessimism. Furthermore, significant differences were found based on gender and academic specialization, where female students and students in humanities disciplines showed higher levels of defensive pessimism compared to their counterparts. These findings suggest that defensive pessimism functions as an adaptive cognitive strategy for managing academic pressure among students. The study contributes to the understanding of psychological coping strategies in higher education and provides implications for student counseling and academic support programs.

Abstract

Despite the growing discourse on digital transformation in education, there is a scarcity of empirical research specifically examining the synergy between technology integration and resource management within Indonesian public senior high schools. Addressing this gap, this study aims to explore the integration of technology and resource management at SMAN 1 Panyipatan, focusing on the utilization of Management Information Systems (MIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and human resource management strategies. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research involved teachers, administrative staff, and the school principal as informants through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The findings indicate that while technology integration has improved administrative efficiency, data transparency, and student engagement, challenges such as uneven digital literacy, limited infrastructure, and the need for ongoing technical support remain. Ultimately, the study demonstrates that technology implementation, underpinned by effective resource management, significantly strengthens teacher professionalism and school operational effectiveness. These insights provide critical implications for school management policy and digital transformation strategies in similar educational contexts.

Abstract

This study examines school culture transformation as a foundation for sustainable teacher professional development by analyzing how collaborative leadership is associated with the development of collaborative cultural practices in Indonesian elementary schools. Using a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design, data were collected from 298 teachers across 51 public schools in Purwakarta District and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that collaborative leadership significantly predicts the development of a collaborative school culture, which in turn is positively related to teacher professional growth and performance. The model explained approximately 30% of the variance in collaborative culture and 38% in teacher performance, with cultural transformation acting as a partial mediator between leadership and teacher outcomes. These results suggest that improvements are associated with processes such as fostering trust and psychological safety, strengthening shared purpose and collective efficacy, and embedding collaborative and reflective routines within school practices. The study concludes that collaborative leadership serves as an important enabling factor in strengthening teacher development and supporting school culture transformation, while emphasizing that such transformation is context-dependent and shaped by broader organizational conditions within Indonesian schools.

Abstract

This type of research uses a qualitative approach. This study aims to describe the types of implicatures and theoretical pedagogical implications in learning short story texts contained in Gita Wirjawan's YouTube channel. The data obtained in this study are 1) 24 utterances containing implicatures in conversations on Gita Wirjawan's YouTube channel, 2) pedagogical implications in implicatures on Gita Wirjawan's YouTube channel towards learning short story texts. The episode of the data obtained amounts to one episode with a duration of 1 hour 56 minutes 4 seconds, the selection of the video is based on the reference of this study which refers to learning, not only in terms of content but also in terms of storytelling that can be used as material for students to write so that it is relevant to this study. The data collection technique uses documentation in the form of transcripts recorded in conversations on Gita Wirjawan's YouTube that contain implicatures. The data analysis technique uses listening and note-taking techniques. The data validity technique uses data triangulation. The results of this study are in the form of (1) types of implicatures obtained in Gita Wirjawan's YouTube channel which consist of 3 conventional implicatures, 8 specific conversational implicatures, 5 general conversational implicatures, and 8 scale implicatures (2) the results of this study theoretically from a teaching perspective, conversational implicatures in Gita Wirjawan's podcast can help in the process of learning short story texts, because they can function as storytelling tools to create implied meanings, characters, and morals in dialogue.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are essential competencies for vocational graduates in aviation education, where professional tasks are characterized by high risk, time pressure, and technological complexity. This study examined the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PJBL), and a combined PBL–PJBL approach in improving the problem-solving skills of cadets at an Aviation Polytechnic in Surabaya. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design was employed. A total of 100 first-year cadets were selected through purposive sampling and assigned to four groups: PBL, PJBL, combined PBL–PJBL, and a control group. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire administered as pretest and posttest, and analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey’s HSD post hoc test, and N-Gain analysis. The results indicate that all experimental learning models significantly improved cadets’ problem-solving skills compared to the control group. The combined PBL–PJBL model demonstrated the strongest overall effect, yielding the highest statistical improvement and a very large effect size. When examined as single-method implementations, PBL produced higher learning gains than PJBL, indicating greater practical efficiency in developing problem-solving skills. These findings suggest that while PBL alone is an effective and efficient instructional approach, integrating PBL and PJBL provides a more comprehensive learning experience that maximizes problem-solving development in aviation vocational education. The study highlights the importance of aligning instructional strategies with the cognitive and operational demands of aviation training contexts.
