Abstract

This study is motivated by a common phenomenon experienced by the elderly in Indonesia, namely the inner struggle of facing old age, the loss of identity, and social alienation, issues often overlooked in the social and emotional spheres. The purpose of this study is to analyze the short story Penulis Tua by Haryo Pamungkas and examine its correlation with the realities of elderly life in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was employed using structural and sociological literary analysis methods to uncover both the narrative meaning and social relevance of the literary text. The analysis reveals that Penulis Tua not only portrays aging as a personal experience marked by the loss of identity and role, but also represents the social condition of the elderly who are frequently neglected both economically and emotionally by those around them. The story highlights the elderly’s need for appreciation, social acceptance, and meaningful roles within the family and community. The correlation between the reality depicted in the text and the actual social conditions of the elderly in Indonesia reinforces literature’s role as a mirror of relevant social critique. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of fostering collective awareness to respect the elderly, value their contributions, and cultivate empathy toward the dynamics of aging amid ongoing social change.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of evaluation as a key pillar in improving the quality of Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) learning at SMP Negeri 4 Padang Panjang. However, the implementation of evaluation still faces several challenges, such as students’ low awareness in practicing Islamic values they have learned and the limited parental supervision of their children's religious practices outside the home. The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which evaluation contributes to enhancing the quality of PAI learning. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that evaluation plays a central role in determining the success of the PAI learning process. Educational success is reflected in the structured implementation of evaluation by teachers through planning and execution stages. All educators at SMP Negeri 4 Padang Panjang are actively involved in conducting evaluations as a collective effort to improve learning quality. Supporting factors include teacher commitment and school-wide coordination, while inhibiting factors include time constraints and limited external supervision. Nevertheless, teachers continue to strive to overcome these obstacles to ensure that evaluations are carried out optimally and the goal of improving the quality of Islamic education is achieved. The implications of this study affirm that the success of learning quality heavily depends on systematic and continuous evaluation practices.

Abstract

Social anxiety disorder is one of the most common yet frequently undetected psychological conditions, characterized by intense and irrational fear of social situations that can hinder an individual’s productivity and relationships. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has emerged as a fast and non-invasive alternative therapeutic approach to reduce anxiety symptoms and is increasingly applied in counseling practice. This study aims to analyze scientific literature trends on the use of EFT in addressing social anxiety through a bibliometric approach. Data were sourced from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases within the 2010–2025 period and analyzed using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software. The analysis results show a significant increase in publications related to EFT, particularly since 2018, with the highest research concentration originating from developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. These findings indicate growing academic interest in EFT as a psychological intervention. Although many studies support the effectiveness of EFT, further research with more rigorous methodological designs is needed to ensure validity and replicability. This study offers an initial contribution to the scientific mapping of EFT and can serve as a reference for researchers and counseling practitioners to consider EFT as a potential therapeutic technique for addressing social anxiety.

Abstract

The Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) is an indigenous community historically reliant on forests and characterized by a semi-nomadic lifestyle, but in recent decades has undergone significant changes due to intensive interaction with external society, government policies, and the penetration of modern values. This study aims to describe the transformations in the lives of the SAD in Sungai Abang Village, VII Koto Subdistrict, Tebo Regency, Jambi Province, particularly in the areas of education, belief systems, and technology during the period 2010–2024. The method used is historical research with a qualitative approach, encompassing the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The research focuses on the Bujang Rimbo group, which has settled permanently and demonstrates more complex social dynamics compared to nomadic groups. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies, and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal increased access to formal education, religious acculturation through the adoption of formal religions such as Islam, and the use of communication technology that has altered social interaction patterns within the community. In conclusion, the SAD’s adaptation to social change occurs gradually, selectively, and contextually, reflecting the community's ability to maintain cultural identity while responding to the challenges and opportunities of modernity. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how indigenous communities navigate contemporary social transformation.

Abstract

Labor absorption through Job Fair activities continues to face various challenges, particularly in non-industrial regions such as West Sumatra. This study aims to analyze the role of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of West Sumatra Province in managing Job Fair activities and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, the research was conducted at the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of West Sumatra Province in Padang City, involving eight informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Department carries out four main roles in Job Fair activities: as a facilitator, educator, representative, and technical implementer. These roles are realized through the provision of facilities, employment education, cross-sectoral networking, and systematic program management. Supporting factors include effective communication and organized management, while limited company participation due to the region’s non-industrial characteristics and suboptimal promotional efforts serve as the main obstacles. This study contributes to the development of public sector role theory in employment service management and emphasizes the importance of collaborative strategies and public communication in supporting the success of Job Fair programs. Further studies are recommended to evaluate program effectiveness longitudinally and to compare Job Fair implementation in industrial and non-industrial regions to enrich the field of public employment management.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students in Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) learning at SDN 04 Batu Putih, which remains dominated by lecture-based and rote memorization methods, thus limiting students' active and analytical participation. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. The study employs a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of the one-group pretest-posttest type. The research sample consisted of 30 fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was a critical thinking skills test, analyzed descriptively and inferentially using a paired sample t-test. The results show an increase in the average critical thinking score from 64.4 on the pretest to 76.9 on the posttest, with a gain of 12.5 points. The t-test yielded a t-value of 11.24 with a significance level of p < 0.05, indicating a significant improvement. Additionally, the posttest score distribution shifted to a higher category, with the majority of students scoring above 74. In conclusion, the implementation of PBL is proven effective in improving students' critical thinking abilities and contextual understanding of PAI material. The implication is that PBL should be applied more broadly and continuously in PAI instruction to foster active and meaningful learning environments. It is recommended that teachers attend PBL implementation training and manage instructional time effectively to optimize the learning process. Further research is suggested to explore the impact of PBL on character development and other learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study originates from the implementation of authentic assessment at SDN 329 Suka Damai, which, although applied in Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) learning, still faces several challenges in practice. Authentic assessment, as a form of evaluation emphasizing the contextual measurement of skills, attitudes, and knowledge, encounters obstacles such as teachers’ difficulties in systematically developing assessment instruments and rubrics, limited time, administrative workload, and a lack of technical training. The aim of this study is to examine how authentic assessment is implemented and to identify the challenges faced by teachers along with the strategies they employ in PAI instruction. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that authentic assessment has been implemented through self-assessment, project-based assessment, and product assessment, but its execution remains suboptimal due to limited technical capacity among teachers and heavy workloads. Strategies used by teachers include adapting assessment instruments from available sources and collaborating with peers in rubric development. In conclusion, continuous training and institutional support from the school are needed for authentic assessment to be implemented more effectively and consistently in PAI learning. The implication is that optimal authentic assessment can foster the holistic development of students’ character and spiritual competencies in alignment with the goals of primary education.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic stress among female students, particularly those completing their undergraduate thesis, despite the significant psychological and academic impact of this phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic stress among female students at Universitas Negeri Padang who are in the process of writing their thesis. This research employs a quantitative correlational approach with purposive sampling, involving 410 female students as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed both online and offline, and analyzed using the product moment correlation technique. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and academic stress, suggesting that higher emotional intelligence is associated with higher levels of academic stress among female students. These findings support the theory proposed by Simbolon and Limbong (2022), and suggest that emotional intelligence does not always function as a protective factor against stress; rather, it may also intensify individuals’ perceptions of academic pressure. The main conclusion of the study is that the two variables are significantly and interdependently related. The implications include contributions to the literature on the psychological dynamics of final-year students, as well as practical recommendations for educational institutions to offer emotional intelligence training alongside stress management strategies. This study also opens avenues for further exploration among male student populations to achieve a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EQ) has emerged as a critical dimension of human functioning, often exerting a more substantial influence on personal and professional success than intellectual intelligence (IQ), as emphasized in the work of Daniel Goleman. EQ encompasses the ability to identify, regulate, and express one’s own emotions, as well as to perceive and respond appropriately to the emotions of others. This study explores the concept of emotional intelligence through the lens of Goleman's theoretical framework and investigates its correspondence with ethical and spiritual values found in the Qur’an. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research focuses on three core components of EQ as outlined by Goleman, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills, and analyzes these constructs in relation to Qur’anic teachings. The findings reveal that the Qur’an embodies principles of emotional intelligence through narratives and moral exhortations, such as persistence in adversity (istiqamah), compassion toward others, emotional restraint, and respectful interpersonal communication. Prophetic stories and ethical injunctions provide illustrative models of emotionally intelligent behavior aligned with spiritual development. This study demonstrates that integrating modern psychological theories with Qur’anic values offers a rich and culturally grounded framework for character education and personal growth. It also underscores the potential of Islamic teachings to contribute meaningfully to contemporary discourses on emotional intelligence and moral development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sensory quality of putu ayu cake with the addition of red dragon fruit extract at concentrations of 20%, 30%, and 40% as an effort to innovate traditional food products using natural ingredients—a practice that remains relatively uncommon. This research is a true experimental study using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications, involving four treatments: control (X0) and three extract variations (X1, X2, X3). The assessment was conducted by five semi-trained panelists from the Culinary Arts faculty using organoleptic test sheets to evaluate color, aroma, and taste. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics, followed by ANOVA and Duncan’s post hoc test. The results show that the addition of 40% red dragon fruit extract (X3) had the most significant effect on color, aroma, and the distinctive taste of dragon fruit, but did not significantly affect the cake’s sweetness. The control treatment (X0) recorded the highest score for sweetness (3.67), while X3 received the highest scores for aroma (2.53) and dragon fruit flavor (2.73). These findings indicate that red dragon fruit extract can enhance the visual appeal and distinctive taste profile of putu ayu without altering its sweetness, thus offering potential for enriching traditional food innovations with functional natural ingredients.
