Abstract

The implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka introduces a new paradigm in Indonesian education by emphasizing learner autonomy centered on students’ interests and potentials. However, such freedom must be balanced with the cultivation of character values to ensure that education is not solely focused on academic achievement but also on the development of noble character. This study aims to describe the impact of the Kurikulum Merdeka on students’ learning character at MI Darussalam Gondekan Jabon, Jombang. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using a case study design. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and open-ended questionnaires involving teachers and students from Grades IV and V. The research was conducted over five months. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka has had a positive impact on students’ learning character, as reflected in the improvement of responsibility, honesty, discipline, cooperation, and respectfulness. Instructional models such as project-based learning, collaborative learning, thematic-contextual learning, and the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) have proven effective in shaping student character. Teachers played a central role as role models, habit facilitators, and direct character mentors. The study concludes that the Kurikulum Merdeka can serve as an effective vehicle for developing students’ learning character when implemented contextually and in a balanced manner. The findings imply the need for teacher training programs integrated with character education to ensure the comprehensive success of the curriculum.

Abstract

Islamic banking in Indonesia has undergone significant growth since the establishment of Bank Muamalat in 1991. This study examines the regulatory framework, operational principles, and the challenges and opportunities facing Islamic banking in addressing contemporary financial issues. Utilizing a descriptive-qualitative approach through a literature study, the research identifies Law No. 21 of 2008 and fatwas issued by the National Sharia Council–Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI) as the primary legal and ethical foundations for Islamic banking operations. Key contract mechanisms such as muḍārabah, mushārakah, and murābaḥah serve as Sharia-compliant alternatives to conventional interest-based systems. Despite this progress, Islamic banking faces several challenges, including low levels of Sharia literacy among the public, limited digital innovation, and intense competition with conventional banks. However, significant opportunities exist through partnerships with Islamic fintech, integration of Islamic social finance instruments (ZISWAF), and the promotion of sustainable finance initiatives aligned with the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah. The study underscores the need to strengthen regulatory frameworks and embrace technological advancements to build an inclusive, competitive, and future-ready Islamic banking system in Indonesia.

Abstract

Writing in Arabic (kitabah) remains a significant challenge, with only 31.1% of students able to produce formal texts with correct structure, while 68.9% struggle with diction selection and sentence construction. A preliminary study involving 22 fourth-semester students in the Arabic Language Education Program revealed a gap between instructional goals and classroom reality, largely due to monotonous conventional methods and one-way interactions lacking adequate feedback (70%). This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating e-learning and digital dictionaries using a mixed-method approach. Quantitative analysis was conducted through pre-test and post-test in the experimental group, while qualitative data were gathered via interviews and observations. Statistical results showed a significant improvement in the average score from 58.67 to 82.27 (Sig. 0.000), with a gain score of 0.63. Qualitatively, digital dictionary features enhanced learner autonomy and writing speed, while digital rubrics enabled instructors to provide more objective feedback. Nonetheless, the implementation faced challenges such as limited digital literacy and infrastructure readiness. The study concludes that technology integration is effective in improving students’ kitabah competence. The implications highlight the need for digital literacy training, the development of more inclusive platforms, and the refinement of AI-based assessment systems. Further research is recommended to evaluate the model's effectiveness across larger and more diverse institutional samples.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of Islamic education law and policy in Indonesia and their role in enhancing educator professionalism, employing a qualitative method through an extensive literature review. The analysis reveals that Islamic education law and policy in Indonesia are continually evolving to address emerging educational needs and the demands of a rapidly changing social, technological, and global landscape. These legal and policy developments prioritize the enhancement of human resource quality, particularly educators, and exert a significant influence on the national education system through regulatory frameworks that foster character development and academic competence. Professionalism in Islamic education encompasses the advancement of educators' knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate the challenges of modern education. The legal framework plays a vital role in supporting this professionalism by establishing competency standards, implementing certification systems, and ensuring legal protection for educators. The study concludes that the synergy between evolving legal frameworks, Islamic education policies, and professional development initiatives is fundamental to improving the overall quality of education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The limited number of studies on the holistic application of strategic management in Islamic educational institutions, particularly those oriented toward strengthening dakwah humanis in specific regions such as Nganjuk forms the background of this research, given its urgency in shaping moderate and tolerant communities amidst contemporary socio-religious dynamics. This study aims to deeply analyze the implementation of strategic management in Islamic educational institutions in support of dakwah humanis, identify its enabling and inhibiting factors, and formulate an adaptive strategic model. A qualitative method with a multiple case study approach was employed, involving five Islamic educational institutions (madrasahs and pesantren) purposively selected based on their track records in innovation and community-based dakwah. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with institutional leaders, teachers, da’i, and community figures; participatory observation; and analysis of internal documents. Thematic analysis was applied through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal variations in the implementation of strategic management; however, there is a general commitment to integrating humanistic values into the curriculum and dakwah programs through participatory planning and human resource development. The main conclusion emphasizes the critical role of transformational leadership and an adaptive organizational culture in enhancing the effectiveness of dakwah humanis within Islamic educational institutions. The implications of this research include contributions to the enrichment of the Islamic education management literature and practical recommendations for stakeholders, including local governments and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to strengthen managerial training, develop synergistic policies, and design measurable and sustainable community-based dakwah humanis models.

Abstract

Religious moderation has emerged as a strategic imperative in Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) amid rising concerns over radicalism, intolerance, and social polarization in Indonesia. This study critically examines the concept of religious moderation from the perspectives of contemporary Muslim scholars and explores its relevance for the development of PAI. Adopting a library research approach, the study employs descriptive-analytical and interpretative methods to review the works of Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Quraish Shihab, Fazlur Rahman, and Ali Jum'ah. The analysis reveals that these scholars conceptualize religious moderation through core values such as justice, tolerance, balance, and deliberation, positioning them as essential principles for religious life. These values are particularly relevant for integration into PAI curricula to foster inclusive, dialogical, and socially harmonious student character in Indonesia’s multicultural context. However, implementation faces notable challenges, including an overly cognitive curriculum, insufficient teacher preparedness, and the widespread dissemination of intolerant ideologies via digital media. The study concludes that religious moderation has significant potential to enhance PAI’s role in cultivating a moderate Muslim generation, contingent upon curriculum reform, teacher capacity development, and stronger alignment between educational policy and societal values. Theoretically, the study contributes to mapping contemporary Islamic thought on moderation; practically, it offers strategic recommendations for embedding these principles into Islamic education.
