Abstract

Improving the mathematics learning process and outcomes in fractions requires a learning model that can promote students’ active engagement. This study aimed to describe the implementation process of the Treasure Hunt Math learning model and improve Grade V students’ mathematics learning outcomes in fractions at UPTD SD Negeri 85 Parepare. The study employed a qualitative approach with a Classroom Action Research design conducted over two cycles. The participants comprised 34 Grade V students, while one classroom teacher acted as an observer. Data were collected through observation, learning achievement tests, and documentation and were subsequently analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that the implementation of Treasure Hunt Math improved the students’ mathematics learning process and outcomes. In Cycle I, the learning process and outcomes remained in the adequate category because the teacher and students were still adapting to the implemented model. Following improvements in Cycle II, the learning process became more active, collaborative, and enjoyable, accompanied by an increase in learning mastery to the good category. These findings confirm that Treasure Hunt Math can be used as an alternative learning model to improve students’ engagement and mathematics learning outcomes, particularly in fractions at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Although alumni hold a strategic position as partners of Islamic boarding schools in developing the human resources of santri, scholarly studies on the forms of their contributions and the impacts of their involvement remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the role of alumni in developing and improving the quality of santri human resources at Pondok Pesantren Anwarul Huda Malang. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and included the pesantren leader and administrators, alumni association administrators, actively contributing alumni, and santri. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation and were subsequently analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which comprises data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that alumni played a significant role in improving the quality of santri human resources through five main forms of contribution, namely organizing guidance and skills training, serving as mentors and resource persons based on their professional experience, participating as teachers at Madrasah Diniyah, providing financial support and facilities for pesantren development, and expanding the motivation, perspectives, and career networks of santri. These contributions had positive impacts on improving the knowledge, skills, self-confidence, and readiness of santri to engage in community life and the world of work. This study affirms that alumni involvement and the presence of an active alumni organization are important elements in sustaining synergy between alumni and the pesantren and supporting the continuous development of santri human resources.

Abstract

The number of visitors to Museum Buleleng is still counted manually using a mechanical counter, which is less efficient, less accurate, and unable to provide real-time data, particularly when several visitors arrive simultaneously. This study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a visitor-counting application based on You Only Look Once version 8 (YOLOv8) using a tracking method. The system used a webcam as the video source, YOLOv8 to detect person objects, and object ID tracking to prevent double counting. The application was developed using Python and OpenCV with a graphical user interface designed for ease of use. Testing conducted in the Public Relations Room of the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Education at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) showed that the system achieved an average detection accuracy of 94.7% with a processing speed of 31 FPS, while the implementation of the tracking method was able to reduce counting duplication to 2.1%. During testing, the system recorded 50 incoming visitors, consisting of 22 females and 28 males, and 42 outgoing visitors, consisting of 18 females and 24 males, indicating that eight visitors remained in the room at the end of the observation. These results show that the application is capable of automatically, accurately, and in real time counting and monitoring the number of visitors. This study provides a practical contribution to the application of computer vision technology in visitor monitoring systems and has the potential to serve as a more efficient solution than manual counting methods at Museum Buleleng.

Abstract

Lip balm is a cosmetic product used to maintain moisture and protect the lips from dryness; therefore, the development of formulations using natural ingredients needs to consider the physical and organoleptic characteristics of the preparation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of adding mint leaf extract on the physical and organoleptic characteristics of lip balm based on red guava extract. The study employed an experimental method with three variations in mint leaf extract concentration, namely 2%, 4%, and 8%, while the concentration of red guava extract was maintained at 20%. The observed parameters included organoleptic characteristics, homogeneity, pH, melting point, and spreadability. The results showed that all formulations produced homogeneous preparations with a pink color and semisolid texture. Increasing the concentration of mint leaf extract produced an increasingly dominant mint aroma. All formulations had pH values ranging from 4 to 5, melting points of 50–55°C, and good spreadability. This study showed that the addition of mint leaf extract at concentrations of up to 8% could produce red guava extract-based lip balm with good physical and organoleptic characteristics. These findings provide practical implications for the development of natural ingredient-based lip balm formulations by considering the concentration of mint leaf extract as one of the components influencing the characteristics of the preparation.

Abstract

Although the application of computer vision in poultry management has been widely studied, research on the early identification of duck sex based on egg morphology using deep learning on mobile platforms remains limited. This study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a YOLOv8-based mobile application for detecting duck sex from egg images in real time. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a prototype development model. The initial dataset consisted of 543 images encompassing the male egg, female egg, and non-egg classes. Data were obtained through field observations, interviews with duck farmers, and image acquisition using a smartphone camera. The data were then augmented through horizontal and vertical flipping, rotation, and zooming, resulting in 1,053 images divided into 70% training data, 10% validation data, and 20% test data. The YOLOv8s model was trained for 100 epochs and converted into TensorFlow Lite format for on-device inference in a Flutter-based Android application. The results showed that the model achieved recall values of 95% for the female egg class, 97% for the male egg class, and 100% for the non-egg class. Functional testing using black-box testing showed that all major features functioned properly. Meanwhile, usability testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS) involving 20 respondents yielded an average score of 79.62, which was classified as Acceptable, Grade B, and Good. This study concludes that the integration of YOLOv8s, TensorFlow Lite, and Flutter produces a functional application with an acceptable level of usability. This application has the potential to support the practical early identification of duck sex using mobile devices.

Abstract

Although various lignocellulosic biomasses have been developed as biosorbents for dye removal, the use of longan peel modified with duck egg white for Methyl Orange biosorption, particularly in relation to the effect of agitation speed, remains limited. This study aimed to determine the optimum agitation speed for Methyl Orange biosorption using longan peel modified with duck egg white in a batch system. The study employed a quantitative approach with a laboratory experimental design. The characteristics of the biosorbent were analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, while the Methyl Orange concentration was determined using a UV–Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that agitation speed affected biosorption performance. The optimum condition was achieved at 200 rpm, with the highest adsorption capacity of 66.47 mg/g. FTIR analysis confirmed the successful modification of the biosorbent through the addition of protein functional groups to the longan peel surface. The FTIR spectrum after biosorption also showed the presence of sulfonate (S=O) groups, indicating the adsorption of Methyl Orange. These findings demonstrate that protein modification and an appropriate agitation speed can enhance the performance of lignocellulosic biomass-based biosorbents in adsorbing anionic dyes. This study contributes to the development of potentially environmentally friendly and low-cost biosorbents for wastewater treatment and provides a basis for optimizing the biosorption process. Future research should investigate adsorption kinetics and isotherms, biosorbent regeneration, and its application to actual industrial wastewater.

Abstract

Total phosphate is an important parameter in water quality assessment because increased inputs can trigger eutrophication and disrupt the balance of aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to determine total phosphate concentrations in lake water samples using the UV–Vis spectrophotometric method based on SNI 6989-31:2021 and to evaluate the consistency of the analytical results through quality control. The study employed a quantitative approach through laboratory analysis of three lake water samples. Measurements were performed using a UV–Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 880 nm, while total phosphate concentrations were determined based on a linear calibration curve. Quality control was performed through duplicate and spike tests. The results showed that the total phosphate concentrations in Lake Samples 1, 2, and 3 were 0.019, 0.024, and 0.020 mg/L, respectively. The calibration curve yielded the equation y = 0.5528x + 0.0020, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.9949, indicating a strong linear relationship between concentration and absorbance. The duplicate test yielded a relative percent difference (RPD) of 5.13%, indicating a relatively small difference between measurements, while the spike test yielded a total phosphate concentration of 0.449 mg/L after the addition of the standard. These findings confirm that the UV–Vis spectrophotometric method based on SNI 6989-31:2021 can be used to determine total phosphate concentrations in the lake water samples analyzed. The results of this study contribute analytical information that can support water quality monitoring and eutrophication risk control in lake ecosystems.

Abstract

Hospital wastewater contains organic matter, pathogenic microorganisms, and various chemical compounds that may pollute the environment if not adequately treated. One important parameter for evaluating the organic matter content of wastewater is biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). This study aimed to evaluate the wastewater quality of several hospitals based on the BOD parameter using the Winkler method in accordance with SNI 6989.72:2009. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach through laboratory analysis of wastewater samples from several hospitals. Testing was conducted by measuring dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations before and after five days of incubation, calculating BOD values, and evaluating the precision of the measurement results using relative percent difference (RPD). The results showed that the mean BOD values ranged from 1.9328 to 3.2858 mg/L, while the RPD values for all samples ranged from 7% to 23%. Differences in BOD values among samples indicated variations in wastewater characteristics associated with healthcare service activities and treatment effectiveness at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of each hospital. All samples had relatively low BOD values, indicating that the biodegradable organic matter content had decreased after the treatment process. The RPD values also showed that the analytical results had good precision and could therefore be used as a basis for monitoring hospital wastewater quality. These findings emphasize the importance of BOD as an indicator of wastewater quality and the effectiveness of biological treatment at hospital WWTPs.
