Abstract

This research was motivated by a problem, namely the low ability to listen to the news of grade VII students, there are still students underestimating listening learning, subject teachers rarely use audiovisual media when listening learning. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability to listen to news using audiovisual media of grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Ulususua Learning Year 2022/2023. The population and sample of this study were all grade X students of SMK Negeri 1 Toma totaling 23 people. The result of this study is that all grade VII students Learning Year obtained an average score of 75.25 with the category of quite good in listening to news texts, thus in the ranks of aspects in listening to the news obtained low average scores such as in what aspect, whose aspect, which aspect, when aspect, why aspect, what aspect. The suggestion of this study is (a) Students should improve the habit of listening to the news, because this habit can be started by listening to the news, listening to a movie, or listening to news about events at school. (b) For Indonesian teachers: Teachers who teach Indonesian subjects are expected to provide knowledge about listening to news to students clearly and completely.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve the reading comprehension skills of SMA Negeri 1 Lahomi tenth grade students by utilizing the Language Experience Approach. This study was developed using the use of classroom action research (CAR). Thirty-two students from X-MIPA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Lahomi served as research subjects. The instruments utilized to collect the data were the written test and the observation paper. Two cycles of two sessions each were used for action research in this study. Each cycle consisted of four steps: plan, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected in both qualitative and quantitative forms. The multiple choice test yielded the quantitative data, while the observation sheet offered the qualitative data. The results of the researcher's observation sheet for the first meeting in cycle I were 72%, and for the second meeting, 84%, according to data analysis. Students' cycle I observation sheet results for the first meeting were 71%, and for the second meeting, 81%. In cycle II, the researcher's observation sheet yielded an 83% result for the first encounter and a 90% result for the second. In the first meeting, the cycle II student observation sheet result was 85%, and in the second meeting, it was 88%. Additionally, the average score for students in cycle I was 61, whereas it was 74 in cycle II. The conclusion drawn from the data is that the Language Experience Approach is a useful strategy for teaching reading. The Language Experience method (LEA) is advised for English teachers to use while instructing students in reading descriptive texts. This will assist the students become more proficient readers by using the language experience method. The researcher suggests that English teachers should use the Language Experience Approach (LEA) as one of the alternative methods to improve students' reading skills, their potential or ability with as an educator in providing information in the learning process of reading, especially when reading descriptions. Students could improve and developed their reading comprehension by using Language Experince Approach (LEA), because LEA attracted the students’ interest and motivation in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the local wisdom of the Nias community, particularly the concept of Lowalangi (God) within the context of Tri Hita Karana. This concept emphasizes the balance between humans, nature, and God as a foundation for daily life. Through a literature study method, this research analyzes various sources that link spiritual values, customary practices, and environmental preservation within Nias culture. The findings indicate that Lowalangi serves as a unifying element in social and ecological relationships, creating harmony in the interactions between the community and the environment. This research also highlights the challenges of modernization faced by the Nias community and the importance of education and policies that support the preservation of local wisdom. It is hoped that the results of this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of the integration of local values in efforts towards sustainability and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Multicultural education is an important approach to creating an inclusive learning environment that values cultural diversity. This study explores the synergy between English language teaching and the local wisdom of Nias, an area with unique cultural richness. Through literature analysis, this research demonstrates that integrating local wisdom into English language teaching can enhance students' communication skills and strengthen their cultural identity. This approach not only enriches the learning experience but also encourages students to appreciate local values while developing relevant English language skills in a global context. The study recommends the development of a curriculum that incorporates elements of local wisdom and training for teachers to support more effective implementation of multicultural education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of local wisdom in economic education in Nias and its impact on curriculum relevance. The local wisdom in Nias, which includes traditional economic practices, barter systems, and natural resource management, has significant potential to enhance students' understanding of economic concepts. Using a qualitative approach, this research analyzes various literature sources and case studies to identify how local wisdom can be integrated into the educational curriculum. The findings indicate that the utilization of local wisdom not only increases student interest and engagement but also strengthens cultural identity and character development. Furthermore, the study identifies implementation challenges that need to be addressed to achieve these goals. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of a more relevant and contextual curriculum for students in Nias.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Hombo Batu local wisdom-based learning in improving student discipline and cooperation in the Nias Islands. Hombo Batu is a local cultural tradition that contains values of cooperation, discipline, and responsibility, which are integrated into learning activities in schools to strengthen students' character. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted in several primary and secondary schools in the Nias Islands. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis related to the implementation of Hombo Batu activities in the learning process. The results show that the application of Hombo Batu-based learning is effective in improving student discipline, as reflected in time management, responsibility for tasks, and adherence to rules. Additionally, student cooperation also increased, demonstrated by better collaboration in group tasks and joint activities. This learning approach also had a positive impact on strengthening students' local cultural identity. This study suggests that local wisdom-based learning, such as Hombo Batu, should be further expanded and integrated into the educational curriculum in other regions, with attention to infrastructure and teacher training.

Abstract

This study investigates the growing dependency of Indonesian EFL students on ChatGPT in the context of English language learning. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered from learning journals and semi-structured interviews involving nine undergraduate students across three universities. Thematic analysis revealed that students widely perceived ChatGPT as a valuable tool for enhancing writing, vocabulary, and confidence. However, its frequent use led to behavioral and emotional dependency. Factors contributing to this dependency included ease of access, low linguistic self-efficacy, academic pressure, and perceived AI authority. Notably, dependency correlated with reduced engagement in traditional learning strategies, diminished critical thinking, and limited learner autonomy. While ChatGPT offers substantial educational benefits, its overuse raises concerns about passive learning and cognitive disengagement. The findings highlight the need for pedagogical strategies that foster critical AI literacy and promote balanced use. This study contributes to the growing discourse on ethical and effective AI integration in language education

Abstract

This study explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) among university students (Indonesia and English study Programs). Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected from 300 students across multiple institutions in the Jabodetabek region. The study examines how AI tools, such as chatbots and adaptive learning platforms, influence students' anxiety levels during foreign language learning. Key findings indicate that AI reduces FLA by providing personalized learning experiences, real-time feedback, and low-pressure environments for language practice. However, some students reported increased anxiety due to the perceived constant monitoring and the lack of human interaction. The study concludes that while AI offers significant benefits in reducing anxiety, it also introduces new forms of stress, particularly related to technological engagement. This paper contributes to the existing literature by addressing the emotional dimensions of AI integration in language education, providing insights for educators on how to balance AI tools with human interaction to maximize the learning experience. Future research should focus on developing AI tools that integrate emotional support alongside cognitive feedback to further mitigate FLA.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal various obstacles faced by fourth grade students in solving mathematical story problems related to multiplication operations. Learning difficulties are conditions when students are unable to follow the learning process optimally. Story problems require the ability to think logically, understand mathematical language, and apply the concepts learned, so they often become obstacles for students. This study uses a narrative qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the data analysis revealed that students faced several difficulties in solving multiplication problems, including: obstacles in understanding the concept of multiplication, not yet mastering multiplication memorization and difficulty solving multiplication problems. The various factors that trigger these difficulties are low motivation and interest in learning, limited variations in learning strategies, less than optimal understanding of mathematics, and lack of mastery of mathematical language.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the cleanliness of the environment at Masjid Attaqwa 2 Kadipiro Surakarta on the comfort of worshippers during religious practices. Cleanliness is one of the essential factors that can affect focus and comfort in performing worship. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach, with data collected through direct observation. The results show that the level of mosque cleanliness significantly affects worship comfort. A clean mosque environment including the prayer area, ablution space, and other facilities has a positive effect on the worshippers' perception of comfort. Worshippers who feel that the mosque environment is clean tend to experience greater tranquility, comfort, and satisfaction during worship. Conversely, a dirty or poorly maintained environment can disturb comfort, thereby lowering the quality of the worship experience. These findings emphasize the importance of regular mosque cleanliness management and community involvement as part of the effort to enhance the quality of worship for the congregation.
