Abstract

Background: Molar incisor hypomineralization is one of the major developmental defects of enamel affecting one or more first permanent molars and is often associated with incisor involvement. MIH is thought to be idiopathic, but the etiology is not yet known. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between postnatal factors, namely the disease suffered by children aged 0-3 years and MIH in the group of children aged 6-15 years. Methods: The study was conducted using a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) diagram through databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Wiley, and Science Direct using keywords of ((molar incisor hypomineralization) AND (permanent molar)) AND (etiology). Results: 32 articles that fits the criteria were found and were divided into 2 categories, namely: disease in children as a factor for MIH and disease in children associated with MIH. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between disease in children aged 0-3 years and the occurrence of MIH in children aged 6-15 years. Respiratory disease at an early age was associated with the occurrence of MIH most frequently.

Abstract

Background: Teeth are one of the most important parts of the mouth which play a role in speech and mastication. Teeth and mouth are the 'gateways' where microorganisms enter which can affect the health of other organs of the body. Currently, although dentistry science and technology makes it possible to prevent tooth decay as early as possible, there are still many cases of tooth loss that affect a decrease in the effectiveness of mastication which indirectly affects a person's overall health. Loss of teeth can also have emotional and functional impacts and can affect aesthetics. Tooth loss is a condition where one or more teeth are released from their socket or place, which is caused by trauma, caries and periodontal disease. To overcome this problem, prosthodontic treatment is useful to restore and maintain the function of the teeth by making dentures. Dentures are divided into two types, namely removable dentures and fixed dentures (GTC). Removable dentures consist of complete dentures (GTL) and removable partial dentures (GTSL), while fixed dentures are bridge dentures and denture crowns. Objective: This study aims to describe the public's knowledge of the use of dentures at Bahteramas Hospital, Kendari city. Methods: This type of research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires consisting of 18 questions regarding dentures. Results: The results of this study indicate that almost all respondents have good knowledge about the use of dentures in general. Conclusion: Overview of Public Knowledge of Denture Use in Kendari City, it can be concluded that they have a good level of knowledge.

Abstract

Introduction: Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) is one of the most produced and popular types of coffee in Indonesia. Robusta coffee is included as an acidic beverage because it has an average pH of 5.6 which can increase corrosion. Stainless steel orthodontic bracket is a type of orthodontic bracket that has more resistance to corrosion, however, exposure to stainless steel orthodontic bracket by robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) which has an average pH of 5.6 can increase the corrosion process so that more Fe ions are released. Objective: To determine the effect of soaking stainless steel orthodontic bracket with robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) on increasing the release of Fe ions Methods: Laboratory experiment with post test only control group design. The experiment was divided into two groups, namely the control and treatment groups. In the control group there were 16 stainless steel orthodontic brackets which were soaked in 20 ml of artificial saliva in an incubator at 370C for 24 hours. In the treatment group there were 16 stainless steel orthodontic brackets soaked in 10 ml of artificial saliva and 10 ml of robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) in an incubator at 370C for 24 hours. After that, a test was carried out using AAS tool to see the release of Fe ions contained in the test solution. Results: Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) increases the release of Fe ions in stainless steel orthodontic brackets. In the treatment group that were soaked in robusta coffee, there was an average of 7.96 ppm of Fe ions released, while in the control group only 4.07 ppm of Fe ions were released. Conclusion: Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) has been shown to increase the release of Fe ions on stainless steel orthodontic brackets

Abstract

Background: Malocclusion occurs due to a change in dimensions from primary teeth to permanent teeth. The most common malocclusion in children aged 9-11 years is caused by the eruption of the canines and second premolars, requiring orthodontic treatment. To be able to determine the level of need for orthodontic treatment, an orthodontic index is needed, one of which is the Index Of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI). The orthodontic clinic at RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University is a clinic that performs interceptive orthodontic treatment in the mixed dentition period. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between the level of need for orthodontic treatment using the Index Of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) and the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) on patients aged 9-11 years at the orthodontic clinic of the RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University. Methods: The research method used was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional study design. Results: The results of the research based on the results of the Spearman's rho correlation test, obtained a significance value of 0.905 (sig <0.05), the strength of the relationship of 0.023 means that the correlation is very weak between variables. Conclusion: So that it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between the need for orthodontic treatment based on IOTN and DAI in patients aged 9-11 years at RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University.
