Abstract

The culture of gathering is still practiced by the Minangkabau people, both those who still live in hometowns and those who have migrated. A number of traditions are still carried out by Minangkabau people today. The culture and traditions must be maintained and preserved for the sake of social interaction (social sustainability). The concept of social sustainability is a link between design of the physical world and social world, which means that although comfortable housing is important, residential design that is able to maintain social relations, social networks, and cultural development must also be considered. This study aims to classify zoning and grouping to produce recommendations for layouts. That way, the scope of interior design in solving residential problems is expected to be solved systematically so as to produce a layout that facilitates the needs of its inhabitants. The method used is qualitative with cultural approach (cultural studies) to describe spatial divisions in residential houses based on cultural activities of the overseas Minangkabau people. Data was collected using documentation and interviews. The findings of this study are related to spatial arrangements in the house of the overseas Minangkabau people in providing space to fulfill the activities carried out by Minangkabau people today. The layout of the overseas Minangkabau people has a shape in the front has an area of space that can accommodate the number of residents and relatives of same clan. This research is able to become the basis for criticism and evaluation for developers to design housing in the future.

Abstract

The new work concept, Flexible Working Space (FWS), is defined as the arrangement of team member work patterns that provide flexibility in work locations by maximizing information technology. This concept encourages the idea of meeting the needs of employees to do activities at home by designing smart and multifunctional work desk products. This workbench is made using reclaimed wood waste and polyester resin. In addition to increasing the selling value, combining wood waste and resin will be realized with the finishing technique of burning (shou sugi ban) on wood. The use of this finishing technique aims to present a classic and elegant aesthetic impression in accordance with user expectations. The design of this work table product uses the Design Thinking method, which consists of 5 stages, namely empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. This project produces a smart table, a multifunctional work desk equipped with sensor-based lights and music with reclaimed wood material that is finished using shou sugi tire and resin techniques for the upper-class urban user segment. Abstract

Memory plays a vital role for humans as historical beings. Man interprets his life in a space of time that continues in his memory. Humans also know the concept of forgetting, where memory repression is one of the leading causes. Repression is a memory activity in which past experiences are deliberately suppressed so that they do not surface. Guilt and traumatic events in childhood are just a few causes of such repressive activities. Photography as an art activity has a very close relationship with the function of memory. The beginning of the emergence of the photographic medium is related to the human desire to record memories from precious memories. The connection between photography and memory becomes more pronounced when photography becomes a medium of art therapy.  Photography as a medium of art therapy is called the therapeutic photography approach. This approach is an exploration that will be carried out in this study. The subject of research that will be a vital instrument in this research is the experience of the researcher, who still leaves internal conflicts on him. The research method will use Fox's creative creation research method and conduct memory therapy through mixed media experimentation on the photo findings. The stages of this research are as follows: Observation stage, Data collection, Problem Identification and Formulation, Literature Study, Data Processing, Data Analysis, Exploration, Experimentation and Work Realization. This study aims to reveal the positive effects of the medium of photography as art therapy. The therapeutic process carried out is based on the activity of making and reading a narrative through photographic works. The narrative is constructed through re-accessing memory and self-reflection to find positive coping. With the positive effects caused by therapeutic photography, it is hoped that the repression experienced by research subjects will be reduced and reconcile internal conflicts. Abstract

The learning process in Visual Communication Design I has not been supported by pre-requisite courses that focus on visual communication problems. So that students in the learning process require longer adaptation to master the theory and practice of work. One of the visible symptoms is that the design work designed by students displays aesthetic functions more dominant than their communication functions. Based on this, it is necessary to support teaching materials in the form of modules as an effective and efficient learning medium that can motivate students to learn more independently as well as be creative and innovative in designing visual communication design works. Module development is carried out by research methods using a development model by adapting from the stages of the Four-D Model referenced from Thiagarajan (1974). The development model was later modified into 5-D. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation. Making modules based on criteria or principles that show the characteristics of a good module, which includes: self instructional, self contained, independent, self assessed, and user friendly. The module development process goes through the stages of needs analysis, determination of concept maps, formats and writing systematics, followed by making modules consisting of four module units. After that, validation is carried out to determine the feasibility of the module as a development product. Then a revision is carried out whose results can be directly used as a learning medium in the module trial stage. The responses of graphic design lecturers and students show that in essence, the modules developed are suitable to be used to support learning about visual language. Besides being able to be used for independent learning in visual communication design lectures, it can also be used for material enrichment in learning Graphic Design or Visual Communication Design.

Abstract

Every human being has different physical conditions and health. There are humans who have a rather weak physical condition, so they experience limitations in walking and other activities.  They need support on the legs as support during activities, as well as minimizing the possibility of falling, especially for patients who are at risk of falling.   This study aims to find problems in existing walking activity support tools   to further provide design alternatives as recommendations for solving problems.  A descriptive method of analysis is applied to explain the design of a walking activity support tool for patients at risk of falling. The data in this study were obtained from the results of surveys, direct observations, interviews, literature studies, and referred to theoretical foundations according to experts.  The results showed that existing products are mostly intended for the elderly with conventional designs. Therefore, design recommendations pay attention to the concept of walking activity support tools that can help the activities and movements of people who have experienced a fall (post-fall) and prevent patients who have the potential to fall. Ergonomic factors, especially in the ease of product operations, as well as a more universal design are the points that are considered in this design. These fall prevention efforts are expected to contribute to the achievement of the key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all people at all ages (goal 3). Keywords: supporting tools, walking activities, risk of falling, patients

Abstract

Indonesia has a very diverse variety of decorative batik motives. In general, the resulting batik motifs are a combination of shapes, colours and images based on the environment, culture, natural potential, and the influence of the local community where the batik is made. In addition, the batik makers not only create visually beautiful batik, but also provide beauty through the meaning that is in every batik motif they create. This research discusses one of the Indonesian batik motifs from Jambi, namely Tampuk Manggis which is a source of Indonesian cultural heritage that has the potential to be an inspiration for furniture designs in hotel. The purpose of this research is to explore design by applying the Tampuk Manggis– Jambi’s batik motive in furniture design and focus on preserving Indonesian culture and sustainable design that can be applied in hotel. This research uses the Goal Grid method as a sorter that carried out four guidelines; what must be achieved, what must be maintained, what must be avoided, and what must be eliminated. The results of this research are expected to be useful for industry practitioners and designers who aim to create memorable guest experiences and promote cultural values and sustainability

Abstract

South Korean culture, such as history, K-pop, K-drama, K-beauty, K-food, and so on, has gained the attention of Indonesian people of various communities and ages. Simultaneously with the increasing interest of the Indonesian people in entertainment, beauty, food & beverage, and other sectors from South Korea, the Korean industry in Indonesia is also increasing. The existence of the South Korean Cultural Center is currently still limited to being a Korean language center and does not yet present South Korean history, art, and technology which are of great interest to the Indonesian public today. This study aims to create an interior design concept for the South Korean Cultural Centerthat complies withits vision and mission, create a space and circulation program that suits the activities and behavior of users, and create a green design concept. This study adapts the 4th point of the Sustainable Development Goals regarding the Quality of Education and uses a qualitative descriptive research method. This design carries a concept with the theme "Two sides of Korea" which shows two sides of South Korea from two different eras: the past and present, by displaying a natural, warm, and dynamic image. In this design, the author chooses a contemporary South Korean style while still paying attention to green design.
