Abstract

Mount Merapi is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, posing a persistent threat to surrounding communities. Wukirsari Village, located in Cangkringan District, is among the areas most vulnerable to volcanic eruptions due to its proximity to active river channels and its inclusion in high-risk volcanic hazard zones. This study aims to identify and assess alternative evacuation routes that meet the safety standards set by Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency. A quantitative approach was employed, using spatial analysis techniques through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Network Analyst extension in ArcGIS. Five core parameters guided the route evaluation: route length, road width, direction away from the hazard source, presence of river obstacles, and estimated evacuation time. The findings indicate that among the three routes analyzed, the path to Barak Desa Wukirsari was the most optimal. It offers the shortest distance (0.82 km), the fastest travel time, and avoids both river crossings and the highest hazard zones (Kawasan Rawan Bencana III - Zone III of the Hazardous Area). This research contributes meaningfully to spatial disaster mitigation planning, particularly for volcanic-prone regions. The outcomes are expected to serve as practical references for local governments, disaster management agencies, and communities in designing responsive and safe evacuation infrastructure to enhance preparedness and reduce risk in future volcanic emergencies.

Abstract

Melaka is known as one of the most important maritime trading centers in Southeast Asia, serving as a meeting point for various nations and cultures, such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, Dutch, and English. This multicultural dynamic has shaped the development of religious architecture, which can still be observed in historic buildings. This study aims to analyze the representation of multicultural identity in Melaka’s religious architecture through the case studies of Kampung Kling Mosque and Christ Church. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach and a comparative analysis of architectural elements. This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of how religious architecture functions as a medium of multicultural identity representation, while also emphasizing its relevance in preserving Melaka’s cultural heritage. The findings reveal that Kampung Kling Mosque represents multiculturalism through grassroots acculturation, combining Malay, Islamic, Chinese, and Indian influences, as reflected in its three-tiered roof, pagoda-like minaret, Malay floral woodcarvings, Chinese ceramic decorations, and Indian-style floor tiles. In contrast, Christ Church Melaka embodies multiculturalism shaped by colonialism, with Dutch Protestant architectural features adapted to local conditions, such as the use of teakwood, tropical gabled roof design, and multilingual gravestone inscriptions (Dutch, Portuguese, English, and Latin). Both buildings function not only as places of worship but also as symbols of identity, historical memory, and intercultural harmony in Melaka.

Abstract

Tourism development in the northern coastal area of Aceh is a strategic effort to boost local economic growth while preserving the environment. This study focused on Gampong Lamreh, located in Mesjid Raya Subdistrict, Aceh Besar District, which offers natural and historical attractions with scenic landscapes, cultural heritage, and a relatively well-preserved environment. A qualitative descriptive method was used, involving field observations, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The study found that 96% of the community was aware of Lamreh’s tourism potential, with 78% identifying natural attractions as the main draw. However, community participation in tourism activities remained low, indicating the need to enhance local involvement. Economically, 39% of residents reported increased income from tourism, though the benefits were not evenly distributed. Environmentally, 68% of respondents perceived tourism as having a positive impact, and 79% hoped it would lead to economic growth and infrastructure improvements.Despite its potential, Lamreh faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of supporting facilities, and the absence of an integrated destination management system. Using a SWOT analysis, the study recommended a strategy based on the Weakness-Opportunities (W-O) approach, which leverages external opportunities to address internal weaknesses. Key strategies included improving accessibility, developing trekking paths, revitalizing historical sites, securing cliffs, and enhancing institutional support and digital promotion. These efforts aim to transform Gampong Lamreh into a competitive and sustainable coastal tourism destination in Aceh, benefiting both the local community and the environment.

Abstract

Pari Island with an area of 41.32 Ha is one of the islands in the Kepulauan Seribu inhabited by residents. Pari Island with rich natural resources is an attraction for local and foreign tourists. As a tourist destination, natural attractions in Pari Island have not been maximally developed. The fundamental problem of this research is what conservation efforts can be made in the Pari Island natural tourism area which has the potential as a natural tourist attraction. The research objectives are to provide recommendations for the development of sites that are designated as natural tourism objects or ecotourism based on applicable rules, compile conservation efforts to maintain biodiversity and ecosystems and provide recommendations for sustainable management efforts in natural tourism areas or ecotourism in Pari Island. The method in this research is descriptive quantitative. Analysis of the Operation Area of Natural Tourism Objects and Attractions is used to analyze the internal potential and external potential of tourism to determine the development strategy of natural tourism potential in Pari Island. The results of the study are expected to be a reference for the development of existing tourist areas into natural tourism areas or ecotourism, as a basis for considering biodiversity conservation efforts that support the development of natural tourism or ecotourism areas in Pari Island that are sustainable.

Abstract

Heritage tourism has gained increasing scholarly attention by integrating cultural, historical, and environmental aspects into tourism design. This study employs bibliometric analysis to examine trends, gaps, and future directions in heritage tourism research, focusing on global outputs from 1981 to 2024. Using Scopus data, 409 documents were analyzed based on document type, geographical distribution, keyword co-occurrence, and citation metrics. Results indicate that the United States, China, and European countries are the largest contributors, with “sustainability,” “cultural heritage,” and “landscape architecture” emerging as key terms. The findings highlight trends in sustainable tourism development, ecotourism, and the conservation of cultural landscapes. Advanced technologies like Geographic Information Systems and Augmented Reality are increasingly applied to enhance heritage site management and visitor experiences. Despite these advancements, significant gaps persist, particularly in bibliometric approaches and comprehensive studies from methodological and geographical perspectives. Future research should explore interdisciplinary collaborations, vernacular architecture, and sustainable strategies to balance cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and economic growth. This study offers valuable insights for academics, planners, and policymakers to develop informed strategies for sustainable heritage tourism within the field of landscape architecture.

Abstract

The Kampung Kapitan area, once the original settlement of the Chinese community in Palembang, now has only a few authentic, centuries-old buildings remaining in dire condition. Many of the structures have been damaged by time. The green open space in the area has also not been optimally managed. The deterioration of the area's physical condition, without subsequent repair efforts, has the potential to threaten the preservation of this historically valuable area. Therefore, a rejuvenation strategy is needed through revitalization of the area. The Kampung Kapitan revitalization effort adopts the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach initiated by UNESCO, a method for developing historic urban landscapes that combines cultural heritage preservation with social, cultural, and economic development objectives. Before formulating all design concepts, past mapping of the tangible and intangible aspects of the Kampung Kapitan area was conducted. This is important to identify what historical value remains so that it can serve as a design reference that can be reapplied to current landscape design. One recommended revitalization strategy is the restoration of historic buildings by reactivating their functions to meet current needs, as well as restructuring the area's landscape through restructuring zoning, circulation, hydrology, vegetation, and hardscape and softscape materials. All efforts to revive the image of the Kampung Kapitan area are expected to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving historic sites and enhance the appeal of historical tourism along the banks of the Musi River in Palembang.

Abstract

Pedestrian paths function as a connecting system within a city and are closely related to open spaces. The role of open space is to serve as a buffer between buildings (Panduri & Suwandono, 2015). In the Bekasi city center, pedestrian paths face severalissues, such as damaged pathways along Ir. H. Juanda Street and the conversion of pedestrian areas into illegal parking zones and spaces for street vendors (PKL), whichsignificantly affect pedestrian comfort and safety (Saputra & Suwandono, 2022). Based on observations conducted in the Bekasi City Center, the walkability level was assessed using the IPEN Project method with four variables: entropy, Floor Area Ratio (FAR),Household Density density, and connectivity. The findings indicate that the walkability level, particularly in residential areas, remains inadequate and the pedestrian infrastructure is insufficient. Therefore, improvements to pedestrian pathways, especially in residential zones within the Bekasi city center, are necessary

Abstract

Blok M is one of Jakarta's important urban centers, serving not only as a commercial and service area but also as a major public transport interchange. Its development has been reinforced by Governor Regulation Number 55 of 2020 on the Urban Design Guidelines for the Blok M-Sisingamangaraja Transit-Oriented Development area. Official publications from PT MRT Jakarta indicate that the TOD area covers about 113.7 hectares, with priority development concentrated within a 700-meter radius of Blok M BCA Station and ASEAN Station. This study examines how area-planning policy in Blok M shapes spatial configuration and how that configuration affects area effectiveness. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on policy analysis of regulations, institutional documents, and official publications issued by government agencies and area operators. The findings show that planning policy in Blok M has guided the integration of transit nodes, pedestrian connections, mixed-use development, and public-space improvement. These policy directions have contributed to better accessibility, stronger functional links between urban activities, smoother internal movement, and greater support for social and economic activity. In this case, planning policy works not only as a regulatory tool, but also as a framework that structures how spaces in the district are connected and used.
